CAST & CHARACTERS Ellie Kemper as BRENDA MILLER – awkwardly adorable and confident, take-charge girl/woman Mandalynn Carlson as YOUNG BRENDA – Slightly chubby and slightly awkward but when she wants something, there’s no stopping her. Da’vine Joy Randolph as PEARL GARDNER – Brenda’s childhood/adulthood best friend who lives with Brenda. Proud/dignified though her life has become a total mess. Daija Owens as YOUNG PEARL – Brenda's best friend. Never seen without Skittles or Pez, Pearl is self-effacing and doesn't put up a fuss when things don't go her way. Stephnie Weir as SHELLEY MILLER – Brenda’s mom; jovial and easygoing. She is a good mom who doesn't take things too seriously but speaks up when she has to, and tends to be unreadable at times. David Krumholtz as NIEL – Brenda’s cute but buttoned up, neurotic over-thinker who enjoys a lively debate. David Bloom as YOUNG NIEL – the nerdy and nervous boy that has a crush on young Brenda. Lindsay Kraft as JENNY – Neil’s fiancée. Sweet, pretty, and a little flighty.

LOGLINE Stories from Brenda Miller’s past and present are interwoven to give a unique portrait of how a chubby, awkward, but incredibly confident 13-year-old grew up to be a 31-year-old woman who still marches to the beat of her own drum.

POSITIONING STATEMENT A high concept, coming of age comedy that follows the parallel storylines of Brenda Miller at age 13 and 31. More awkward than adorable, young Brenda and her present day self – a quirky/adorkable, symphony conductor, both march to the beat of their own drum.

CREATIVE CUES • 90s references juxtaposed with modern-day 2013 • Brenda as narrator of her own life today and in past • OK to blur lines on 1995 – Brenda was not fresh/relevant then either (I.e. Trapper keepers were "out" in 1995, but she still has one)

WHAT TO SAY • A situational comedy that intercuts between 1995 and 2013 frequently throughout episodes providing parallel humorous moments for Brenda as a teenager and adult • The 1995 pop-cultural references make for great nostalgia for anyone who grew up during that time • Brenda, played by Ellie Kemper – a one of the most highly sought-after actresses, is quirky and unlike any other character on television, which makes both versions of her unique and appealing • Humor is off-beat, oft-times sexual and risqué, breaking the mold of the network comedy

WHAT NOT TO SAY • It’s the next 13 Going On 30 • Brenda is just like Jess on New Girl

INTERNATIONAL POSITIONING • Follows the recent tradition of strong female leads (The New Girl, Girls, , Two Girls) in quirky, edgy series • Ellie Kemper (Bridesmaids, ) is familiar to audiences as a breakout and was highly sought after to lead her own show • Kemper's charming and naive style is her trademark and allows her to be believable and lovable in some of the more risqué scenes • Interwoven timelines of the 1995 and current day allow audiences to relive the best pop culture references of the 1990s

CONSUMER & TRADE PRESS POSITIONING Ellie Kemper (Bridesmaids, The Office) stars in this hilariously awkward, uncomfortable coming of age comedy that follows the parallel storylines of Brenda Miller at age 13 and 31. Proving that some things don’t change with time, Brenda’s past and present are interwoven between a chubby and adorably bold teenager, and the quirky, confident woman who she grew up to become. From the producing team of Andrew Leeds, David Lampson, Michael Wimer and Peter Tolan.
