Fauna of click beetles (Coleoptera: Elateridae) in the interfluve of Rivers Moksha and Sura, Republic of Mordovia, Russia. Biodiversitas 19: 1352-1365. The results of the study of fauna of click beetles in the Republic of Mordovia are presented. By now, 58 species of click beetles have been recorded here. Adrastus pallens is a new record for the republic. As per the literature information, 6 species of click beetles (Agriotes pilosellus, Melanotus crassicollis, Melanotus fusciceps, Liotrichus affinis, Pseudanostirus globicollis, Stenagostus rufus) are known and these indications require confirmation. Two species (Agriotes acuminatus, Limoniscus suturalis) are excluded from the fauna. Taking into account the literary information in the fauna of Mordovia, 64 species of Elateridae are known. Agrypnus murinus, Agriotes lineatus, Agriotes obscurus, Agriotes sputator, Dalopius marginatus, Ampedus balteatus, Ampedus pomorum, Hemicrepidius niger, Athous subfuscus, Prosternon tessellatum, Selatosomus aeneus are among the mass species. A list of the species is presented, which with a high degree of probability can still be found in the republic. -

COMMISSIONED REPORT Summary Surveillance of priority terrestrial invertebrates in Scotland Commissioned Report No. 609 Contractor: N.A. Littlewood & J.A. Stockan Year of publication: 2013 Background Scottish Natural Heritage has been asked by Scottish ministers to implement a strategy for the surveillance of priority habitats and species in Scotland. This report covers the development of such strategies for 55 species of non-marine invertebrates and draws extensively on expert comment from consultees with specialised knowledge of individual species covered. For each species, a report was written to present background information about the status of the species in Scotland together with issues relevant to surveillance, such as ecology, habitat and threats. This is followed by a Surveillance Methodology, outlining measures that can be taken to monitor the species in such a way as to determine trends in population size, range or status. -

Ivanauskas zoological museum, Laisvės al. 106, LT-44253 Kaunas, Lithuania Received: 2 March 2011 Accepted: 1 August 2011 Abstract Click-beetle (Coleoptera: Elateridae) species composition and abundance in agrobiocenozes were exam- ined. The research was carried out in four locations in southern Lithuania with different agrobiocenozes and soil types. In total 687 imago click-beetle specimens were caught belonging to 13 species and 10 genera. The most numerous species detected were Selatosomus aeneus (Linnaues, 1758), Agriotes lineatus (Linnaues, 1767), Agriotes obscurus (Linnaues, 1758), and Negastrius pulchellus (Linnaues, 1758). Zorochros der- mestoides (Herbst, 1806) was recorded for the first time for Lithuanian fauna. The number of specimens entering the traps declined steadily depending on soil granulometric structure. It has been observed to be higher in lighter soils and lower toward heavier soil types. The least number of click- beetle specimens was trapped in the agrobiocenozes with the intensively cultivated land over all study areas except sandy soils. This infers that intensive tillage may affect the abundance of click-beetles in agrobio- cenozes. The summary of research data clearly indicates that the highest abundance of click-beetles was detected in the seminatural meadow with light granulometric structure soil. In many countries, they are well established for environmental impact assessment, but even in the well-studied Central European fauna, species identification can be very difficult. A comprehensive and taxonomically well-curated DNA barcode library could remedy this deficit and could also link hundreds of years of traditional knowledge with next generation sequencing technology. However, such a beetle library is missing to date. This study provides the globally largest DNA barcode reference library for Coleoptera for 15 948 individuals belonging to 3514 well-identified species (53% of the German fauna) with representatives from 97 of 103 families (94%). This study is the first comprehensive regional test of the efficiency of DNA barcoding for beetles with a focus on Germany. Sequences ≥500 bp were recovered from 63% of the specimens analysed (15 948 of 25 294) with short sequences from another 997 specimens. -

In this study we describe a new species of the click-beetle genus Lacon Laporte, 1838 from the relict Hyrcanian forest in northern Iran. Lacon mertliki sp. nov. is morphologically similar to L. lepidopterus (Panzer, 1801) but differs from the latter in the body coloration and pubescence, the shape of pronotum and scutellar shield, and male and female genitalia. We provide brief data on its ecology as well as an identification key to allLacon species in Iran. Additionally, we synonymize Lacon nadaii Platia & Németh, 2011 with Lacon unicolor (Candèze, 1874).
