Its inland is encircled by the Dinara Mountain. It stretches along the coast from Pirovac on the west to Razanj on the south and contains more than 200 smaller and bigger islands as well as reefs. Crystal clear water, beaches, islands, vineyards, authentic fishing villages and the ruins of medieval towns surrounded by walls are only a few of many beauties of the Sibenik Riviera. That which makes it very special are the two pearls of nature – national park Kornati with over 89 beautiful islands and reefs and national park Krka in which the river Krka fights its way through a tight canyon for 72km, trying to find its way to the Adriatic Sea, leaving magical cascades, waterfalls and lakes behind. Sibenik is a cultural and administrative center of the Sibenik Riviera, as well as a neighbor to attractive locations such as Vodice, Rogoznica, Primosten, Zaton, Pirovac, Tisno, Tribunj, Srima, Brodarica, Zaboric, Grebastica, Sparadic. Islands of Murter, Zlarin, Zirje, Kaprije, Prvic and Kornati exude tranquility and intact nature enriched by Mediterranean scents. Sibenik Riviera is one of the most attractive areas for sailing in Croatia. A total of 13 yacht marinas satisfy the highest criteria. The Sibenik Riviera is proud of its excellent bathing places, as well as of the beautiful beaches. The Lolic beach in Pirovac, the Blue beach in Vodice and the White beach in Solaris have been awarded Blue flags. For family tourism, adapted villages and locations such as Solaris, Primosten, Rogoznica, Murter, Vodice are exactly what attracts many families. Sibenik is a town which successfully connects the famous past with the gift of natural beauties. The nature has granted the richness of the islands bathed in the blueness of the sea and fascinating scenery of the Krka national park to the town the name of which was used by the kings. Sibenik is the town with the largest number of music organs and stairways in Croatia. Besides the remarkable historical monuments, Sibenik has a fantastic catering offer, malls, movie complexes, four forts the most visited of which are the St. Mihovil fort and one of the best sea forts on the Mediterranean, St. Nikola fort. You will be enthralled by the famous St. Jakov Cathedral, the most valuable renaissance building in Croatia. Do not miss to visit wine bar Bunari (Wells), a great place to go out to, where different musicians perform all year long.

  • Methods of Multivariate Analysis to Uncover Socio-Economic Differences Among Spatial-Economics Entities
METHODS OF MULTIVARIATE ANALYSIS TO UNCOVER SOCIO-ECONOMIC DIFFERENCES AMONG SPATIAL-ECONOMICS ENTITIES Paper prepared for the 45th Congress of the European Regional Science Association Volos, Greece, August 30th-Semptember 3rd, 2006 Ivana Rasic Bakaric Institute of Economics Zagreb Trg. J. F. Kennedya 7, 10000 Zagreb, Croatia [email protected] Abstract Main aim of regional policy is to reduce regional disparities. There is now doubt that action to tackle regional disparities is needed in Croatia. Main problem is the definition of region as a subject of regional policy. After discussion about definition of region and main criteria which should be considered during the process of establishment of regions, the paper will present one of the methodologies for spatial-economic entities' classification. The methodology will be used on the working sample of several Croatian counties. The classification will be obtained through use of multivariate statistical methods, and it is based on a wide number of demographic, economic, educations, employment indicators. Results leads to the identification of several axes of socio- economic characterisation, and the division of the observed territory into several homogenous clusters, regions with different degree of development. The main conclusion is that socio-economic reorients uncovered with this methodology provide useful characterisation and division of the territory, for policy making purpose. JEL Classification: C49, R12, R58 Keywords: homogeneous regions, factor and cluster analysis, regional policy 1 Introduction A precondition to formulating implementing and monitoring of regional policy measures is the existence of established regional boundaries. Division proposals depend on criteria used. Politicians and various professions use different criteria, in order to achieve the optimal territorial structure that could enable same or at least similar effects of certain policy measures within the same territorial unit, and could be easily monitored.

Chapter 3 Rural tourism in the surroundings of Krka National Park: factors of development and spatial impacts Petra Radeljak Kaufmann Abstract This chapter focuses on the development of rural tourism in the area surrounding Krka National Park, situated in northern Dalmatia. Via various functions, especially tourism and recrea- tion, protected areas can influence local development. Since the 1960s, settlements in the surroundings of Krka National Park have faced challenges related to depopulation and socio-econom- ic development. The goal of this chapter is to analyse factors of re- cent intense development of rural tourism, its spatial impacts in the immediate vicinity of the Park, and various potentials for fur- ther development. These trends should be looked at in the frame- work of tourism development of the Park itself, as well as tour- ism development trends in the interior of Dalmatia. A case study of the Town of Drniš was conducted to closely examine recent trends and the potential for development of rural tourism in the near future. Key words: rural tourism, protected areas, geography, Krka National Park, Drniš, Dalmatia, Croatia doi: https://doi.org/10.26493/978-961-7055-08-5.53-73 53 challenges of tourism development in protected areas of croatia and slovenia Introduction National parks are defined by theNature Protection Act (Official Gazette 80/13, 15/18, 14/19) as a predominantly unaltered area of exceptional and varied natural values encompassing one or more ecosystems. This cate- gory of protected area is primarily intended to protect nature and land- scapes and to serve scientific, cultural, educational, and recreational pur- poses.

  • EU Grants to Croatian Counties, Cities and Municipalities 2015-20161
NEWSLETTER Zagreb l Smičiklasova 21 doi: 10.3326/nle.2018.114 [email protected] l www.ijf.hr l tel: +385(0)1 4886 444 No. 114 l May 2018 l ISSN 1848-4662 EU grants to Croatian counties, cities and municipalities 2015-20161 KATARINA OTT, MIHAELA BRONIĆ, BRANKO STANIĆ This article aims to provide basic information on the grants received by Croatian counties, cities and municipalities as holders of, or partners/participants in the programmes and projects (co)financed by the EU in 2015 and 2016. It provides a synthesis of data also presented in a database that enables detailed analysis and comparison with previous years. Reference is made to the data sources and some easily noticeable curiosities are highlighted. In the period 2015-2016, counties, cities and municipalities received almost one billion kuna in EU grants, much more than in previous years. Almost half of that amount was utilized by counties, about one third by cities and less than a fifth by municipalities. It is noteworthy, however, that almost half of cities and over three quarters of municipalities used no grants at all in the reference period. EU GRANTS European Union grants (EU funds) are intended to (co)finance specific projects and programmes used for the promotion and implementation of particular EU policies (e.g. regional development, employment, social inclusion, research and innovation, etc.). The bulk of the grants is allocated in collaboration with the national and regional authorities from five major funds (the so-called European structural and investment funds – ESI), and the rest goes to the recipients directly.
