The jam sessions at The Haig led to an offer to work the off night with his own group. The Haig was so small that the piano was put in storage while Red Norvo’s Trio headlined. Brookmeyer’s piece “Celebration” was actually written for Gerry as a featured West Coast Tentet soloist while Holman’s work was commissioned as a tribute after Featuring Bob Efford and Bobby Shew Mulligan’s death.
