MAURICIO INGRASSIA Head Coach • 116-69-20 (10 years)
Long Beach State soccer has developed into a na onal contender under the direc on of 11th-year head coach Mauricio Ingrassia. A er the program was reinstated in 1998, The Beach did not have a winning season un l Ingrassia took the reins. Since his fi rst year in 2004, LBSU has won either a Big West regular season or tournament tle fi ve mes, made four NCAA Tournament appearances and set the school record for wins three mes. Ingrassia has compiled an impressive 116-69-20 overall record in his 10 years at the helm. He has led the 49ers to a Big West tle in fi ve of the last eight years, and during that span, LBSU has posted a 37-21-6 mark (.625) in conference play. In 2013, Long Beach State had its fourth-straight winning season with an 8-7-3 mark in a rebuilding year. The roster featured 12 true freshmen, seven of whom earned mul ple starts. The Beach showed their poten al with big wins at No. 23 Texas Tech and against 11th-ranked BYU. Mimi Rangel was tabbed the Big West Freshman of the Year, while she was also a fi rst-team all-conference selec on. Taylor Nelson joined Rangel on the All-Big West First Team, and Elizabeth Lyons garnered second-team recogni on. In addi on, Rangel and Mimi Akaogi were named to Big West All-Freshman Team. THE INGRASSIA FILE In 2012, Ingrassia reached a milestone as he notched his 100th career victory with a 2-1 win over Michigan. The 49ers also Alma Mater picked up key non-conference wins over Baylor and San Diego to help them earn an at-large berth to the NCAA Tournament. It was LBSU’s Cal State Fullerton (1995) Bachelor’s Degree third-straight postseason appearance, and fourth overall. Long Beach State closed out the campaign with a 12-8-0 record. Nadia Link Psychology garnered All-America and Big West Off ensive Player of the Year honors for the second consecu ve season. Link and Alex Balcer were also All-West Region selec ons, while Ingrassia saw seven of his players named to the all-conference team. Azusa Pacifi c (1998) In 2011, The Beach fi nished with an 18-6-1 overall record in what was the greatest season in program history. The 49ers Master’s Degree claimed their second-straight Big West Tournament tle and advanced deep into the NCAA Tournament, reaching the Elite Eight with Educa on victories over No. 7 Pepperdine, Miami and San Diego. LBSU also sha ered the single-season school record for wins (18), goals (49), assists (52) and points (150). Playing Career Nadia Link, who ed the individual single-season school record with 16 goals, became the fi rst player in program history to 1989-91 earn NSCAA All-America honors. Link was joined by Shawna Gordon and Alex Balcer on the NSCAA All-West Region Team. In addi on, Link San Diego State and Gordon highlighted six 49ers on the all-conference team as they were tabbed the Big West Off ensive Player of the Year and Big West Midfi elder of the Year, respec vely. 1993 Cal State Fullerton A er being picked to fi nish sixth in the 2010 Big West Preseason Poll, Long Beach State exceeded expecta ons, claiming the program’s fi rst Big West Tournament tle to earn the league’s automa c bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Beach ed the school’s previous Coaching Career win record, fi nishing with a 14-6-2 mark, and was second in the Big West regular-season standings at 5-2-1. Lindsay Bullock was named 2004-Present the Big West Midfi elder of the Year for the second me in her career, while Bullock, Shawna Gordon and Nadia Link were fi rst-team all- Long Beach State conference selec ons. Bullock, Gordon and Bo Rael were also named to the NSCAA All-West Region Team. Head Coach Ingrassia wasted no me in building the LBSU program as his fi rst recrui ng class, which was ranked 15th in the na on, quickly paid dividends, going 12-5-3 in 2005. Hayley Bolt was named the Big West Conference co-Freshman of the Year and joined Kim Silos as 1995-2003 a Soccer Buzz Freshman All-American, fi rsts for the program, as were the na onal and regional rankings during the season. Even more Long Beach City College impressive was the fact that upwards of eight freshmen were starters. Head Coach A year older in 2006, the squad broke the school record for victories in a season, going 14-5-1 and winning the franchise’s fi rst Big West regular-season tle. The Beach also established itself in the top-25, remaining there for a good por on of the season. The 1993 Long Beach City College defensive unit ranked 19th in the na on in goals against average (0.64). Bolt was named the league’s midfi elder of the year, while Silos was Assistant Coach the off ensive player of the year. Both players earned all-region honors, another fi rst for the program. In 2007, Long Beach State won its second consecu ve Big West tle a er pos ng a 5-2-0 mark in conference ac on. Despite LBSU COACHING HIGHLIGHTS outshoo ng Cal Poly 21-to-3 in the Big West Tournament semifi nals, the 49ers fell by a single goal. 4 NCAA Tournament Appearances In 2008, LBSU went 14-5-4 and established then school records in goals (44), assists (37), points (125) and shots (326). The 2011 NCAA Elite Eight record-breaking campaign, which saw The Beach go undefeated in league play at 7-0-1, culminated in the program’s third-straight Big West 3 Big West Regular Season Championships regular season tle, its fi rst appearance in the conference tournament fi nals and its fi rst at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. 2 Big West Tournament Titles Long Beach State racked up the postseason awards as Ingrassia was recognized as the Big West Coach of the Year, Lindsay 4 All-America selec ons Bullock was named the conference’s midfi elder of the year, and Liz Ramos earned top goalkeeper honors. In addi on, the 49ers placed 10 19 All-Region selec ons student-athletes on the All-Big West team, with Bullock and Hayley Bolt also being All-West Region selec ons. 50 All-Big West selec ons In 2009, LBSU suff ered from the loss of 14 seniors from the previous season’s championship squad, but s ll saw three players 4 Big West All-Freshman Team selec ons 3 Big West Off ensive Players of the Year earn all-conference honors. Nadia Link was invited to the United States’ U-23 Na onal Team 1 Big West Goalkeeper of the Year Camp in the fall of 2011 and the spring of 2012. Shawna Gordon also a ended the U-20 Na onal Team Camp in the spring of 2009, while 2 Big West Freshman of the Year Awards Hayley Bolt was invited to train with the U-20 Na onal Team during the spring of 2005. Prior to Long Beach State, Ingrassia won fi ve state tles at Long Beach City College, the most by any coach in California history (1997, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003). The Vikings fi nished the season ranked in the na on’s top fi ve in fi ve of his fi nal seven years, including a No. 1 ranking in 2002 and 2003. Overall, Ingrassia went 184-24-8 (.870), and ended on a 55-game unbeaten streak which began in October, 2001. From 2000-03, the Vikings went an astounding 95-3-1 (.965), star ng with a 25-2-0 record in 2000, followed by marks of 24-1-0, and 24-0-1. In 2003 they went 22-0-0. LBCC won fi ve South Coast Conference tles and made the playoff s eight mes. The Vikings earned their fi rst playoff berth in school history in 1996. During Ingrassia’s tenure at LBCC, the Vikings had three na onal players of the year (2000, 2002, 2003), nine All-Americans, 13 all-region selec ons and numerous all-conference honors. Six players were also named the South Coast Conference Athlete of the Year. In addi on to his players’ accolades, Ingrassia was named the NSCAA/adidas Junior College Na onal Coach of the Year in 2003, and was tabbed the conference’s top coach three mes (1997, 2000, 2003), as well as California State Coach of the Year fi ve mes. Ingrassia holds a USSF Na onal "A" Coaching License. Ingrassia graduated from Cal State Fullerton in 1995 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and earned his master’s in educa on at Azusa Pacifi c in 1998. Ingrassia’s playing days included two years at San Diego State (1989-1991) and another with the Titans (1993). Ingrassia has one daughter, Madison.

LBSU PRESIDENT Dr. JANE CLOSE CONOLEY
Jane Close Conoley, Ph.D. was selected by The California State University (CSU) Board of Trustees in January 2014 as the newest president of California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) and offi cially took offi ce on July 15. Conoley is the fi rst woman to be appointed president of CSULB and the seventh president overall in the 65-year history of the campus.
Immediately prior to coming to CSULB, Conoley served as dean of the Gevirtz Graduate School of Educa on at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB). She also served from November 2012 to August 2013 as the interim Chancellor of UC Riverside.
Since 2006, along with serving as dean, Conoley was a professor of counseling, clinical and school psychology. Prior to her service at UCSB, she served as dean and professor
LONG of educa onal psychology at Texas A&M University (1996-2005) and associate dean for research at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s Teachers College (1989-94). In addi on, she held faculty posi ons at Texas Woman’s University and Syracuse University.
BEACH Conoley earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the College of New Rochelle and a Ph.D. in school psychology from the University of Texas at Aus n.
Conoley is the author or editor of 21 books and more than 100 chapters, refereed journal ar cles and technical reports. Her areas of primary
STATE interest are interven ons with children with disabili es—especially serious emo onal disturbance and aggressive children and youth—and family interven on. Her most recent work inves gates the applica on of the science of posi ve psychology to educa onal se ngs.
One example is her co-authorship with A. P. Goldstein, of Student Violence Interven on: A prac cal handbook and Student Aggression:
UNIVERSITY Preven on, management and replacement training. She has also co-authored books concerning home/school collabora on (with S. Christenson), family assessment (with E. Werth), and school consulta on (with C. Conoley). Her most recent book with Collie Conoley is Posi ve Psychology and Family Therapy (Wiley, 2009).
Conoley is also well known for her work in psychological and educa onal measurement and served for 12 years as an editor of the Mental Measurements Yearbook series published by the Buros Ins tute of Mental Measurements. She has been the principle inves gator (P.I.) on several federally funded projects aimed at developing be er school-based approaches to helping children with emo onal and behavioral disorders. She also has been the P.I. on federal and state ini a ves to improve teacher quality especially in science and mathema cs educa on. Conoley remains very interested in working with schools to increase the engagement of low income children of color with academic success and educa onal a ainment. She has presented papers and lectured throughout the world to educa onal and mental health professionals on these topics.
Conoley has won university-level teaching and professional organiza on service awards and has been very ac ve in leadership posi ons in the American Psychological Associa on (APA) and has served on na onal boards including teacher recruitment (College Board) and zero tolerance discipline policies (APA). She has also served on the execu ve commi ees of the na onal educa on deans’ associa ons such as CADREI and LEARN.
In her role as dean of the Gevirtz Graduate School of Educa on, Conoley oversaw the APA accredited combined program in professional psychology—one of only a handful of such programs in the United States.
She was the chair of the UC System-wide Science and Mathema cs Ini a ve Execu ve Commi ee and par cipated in the development of a UC Santa Barbara campus-wide strategy to increase the quality, quan ty and diversity of science, technology, engineering, and mathema cs majors who choose to pursue a career in teaching. In this role she developed new links with regional community colleges, area business, industry, non-profi ts and philanthropy, and new rela onships on campus among the colleges and the large UC Santa Barbara interdisciplinary science and engineering research centers.
Founded in 1949, CSULB enrolls some 35,500 students annually, making it one of the largest four-year universi es in California and the na on. Students are served by more than 2,100 faculty members within the university’s eight colleges, which off er 85 baccalaureate degrees, 64 master’s degrees and four doctoral degrees.
