Austin Title makes no express or implied warranty with respect to the information contained herein an accepts no liability for the consequences of any actions taken on the basis of said information Austin Street Guide Here's a guide to help you manipulate some of our most heavily used & name-changing streets plus a few other facts. INTERESTING RIVER FACT: AUSTIN LOVES ITS TREES With the exception of Congress Avenue, streets running north and south through downtown Most of the numbered streets downtown bore mirror the order in which rivers flow throughout the state. From east to west, the streets (and tree names until the late 1880s. They included: the rivers) are: Sabine, Red River, Neches, Trinity, San Jacinto, Brazos, Colorado, Lavaca, Guadalupe, San Antonio, Nueces and Rio Grande. Second Street — Live Oak Third Street — Cypress AUSTIN HAS ITS OWN SET OF TRAFFIC RULES... Fourth Street — Cedar • All directions start with 'Go down Mopac...'cause you don't want to get on I-35. Fifth Street — Pine Sixth Street — Pecan • Burnet Road, Braker Lane, and Lamar Blvd. have no beginning and no end. Seventh Street — Bois de Arc • It is impossible to go around a block and wind up on the same street that you started on. The Eighth Street — Hickory Chamber of Commerce calls this a scenic drive Ninth Street — Ash 10th Street — Mulberry • The 8:00am rush hour is from 6:30am to 9:30am. The 5:00pm rush hour is from 3:30pm to 11th Street — Mesquite 7:15pm. Friday's rush hour starts on Thursday morning. 12th Street — Rose 13th Street — Peach • If you actually stop at a yellow light, then you cannot be from Austin. You may only apply your 14th Street — Walnut brakes when the end of a yellow light and the beginning of the red light create a burnt-orange 16th Street — Cherry hue. This is Longhorn Country, after all. 17th Street — Linden 18th Street — Chestnut • Just remember that Mopac is Loop 1; Capital of Texas Highway is 360; and U.S.183 is Research Blvd., Anderson Lane, Ed Bluestein Blvd. and Old Bastrop Highway; 2222 is Northland Dr. or 19th Street — Magnolia Allendale Rd. or Koenig Lane. • If moisture is determined to be rain, all traffic must immediately come to a screeching halt. NAME CHANGERS • DO NOT attempt to access any road during an apocalyptic event like snow or SXSW (South Loop 1 - MoPac Boulevard by Southwest Music Convention) or the ACL Fest or any one of the myriad running marathons E. & W. First Street - Cesar Chavez Street held in Austin each year. Construction on I-35 AND U.S. 183 is a way of life. Enfield Road - 15th Street Windsor Road - 24th Street • Manchaca is pronounced MAN-chack. Also, the city of Manchaca (MANchack) is in Hays & Dean Keeton Street - 26th Street Travis Counties and there is also a very long street in Austin named Manchaca (MANchack)! 19th Street - Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard • The city of Manor and Manor Rd. are pronounced 'MAY-ner'. FM 1325 - Louis Henna, Burnet Rd, MoPac Loop 360 - Capital of Texas Highway • Please don’t pronounce the 'E' at the end of Guadalupe. It's Gwada-LOOP and we like it! RM 620 - Marshall Ford Road U.S. 183 - Bell Blvd, Research Blvd, Anderson Ln, • Burnet Road is pronounced BURN-it, not Bur-NET. Koenig Lane is pronounced KAE-nig not Ed Bluestein, Old Bastrop Hwy. KOE-nig. RM 2222 - Bull Creek, Northland, Koenig, Allendale RM 2244 - Bee Cave Road • The old airport (Robert Mueller) is pronounced Robert Miller and is on Airport Blvd. The new Texas 71 - Ben White Boulevard, U.S. 290 airport (Austin-Bergstrom) is no where near Airport Blvd. It's in the city of Del Valle pronounced Loop 111 - Airport Boulevard Dell Valley. Now you won't have to wonder why there are so many bumper stickers that say 'Keep Austin Weird'! NEWS RELEASE For Immediate Release: April 30, 2007 Contact: Steve Pustelnyk 512-996-9778 (office) 512-680-9997 (cell) TxTag Customers Get a Free Ride on 183A in May (Cedar Park, Texas) – The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority is offering drivers the chance to extend their free ride on the new 183A toll road. When tolls take effect May 1, drivers with a funded TxTag account can continue to drive for free in May and will get 50% off in June. A permanent 10% discount for TxTag customers will take effect July 1. The $238 million 183A project has been a huge success since opening to traffic on March 3, 2007. During the first two months of operation, drivers have been getting the chance to try out the road for free, and the Mobility Authority has been registering more than 90,000 transactions a day, exceeding projections by more than 365%. “We have received a lot of positive feedback from customers who say they are saving as much as 30 minutes on their commute by using 183A,” said Steve Pustelnyk, Director of Communications for the Mobility Authority. “Reports indicate that traffic choked US 183 has been flowing much more smoothly since 183A opened.” A portion of 183A near Lakeline Mall features an all-electronic TxTag toll plaza where cash will not be accepted. In order to use that section of 183A, drivers will need to have a TxTag before tolls take effect on May 1. To make it as easy as possible to get TxTag, the Mobility Authority is sponsoring a number of special sign-up activities along the 183A corridor.
