Rome - , 16 November 2020

The fostering of international exchanges and the multi-sectoral comparison between the world of academe, institutions and businesses are the qualifying aspects of the Memorandum of Understanding between Italy’s Commissioner's Office for Expo 2020 Dubai and the IULM . The agreement focuses on training courses linked both to themes of the Universal Exposition and to Italy's participation in the event which, following the postponement of a year linked to the Covid -19 pandemic, will open its doors on 1 October 2021.

The protocol launches a collaboration aimed at planning activities, initiatives and events to be carried out before and during Expo Dubai whose theme is "Connecting Minds, Creating the Future" and in which Italy takes part with the claim "Beauty connects People".

Specifically, the protocol aims to foster, in the Mediterranean area and with nations participating in the Universal Exposition, international academic and cultural exchanges on new skills, including digital skills, in addition to Expo themes.

interest including tourism and hospitality, branding and communications, arts, creative and cultural industries, sustainable development.

As a result of the multi-sector exchange with public and private institutions, the world of academe and entrepreneurial reality, and a focus on Open Education, Open Creativity and Open Innovation, the protocol increases the disclosure of Italy's participation at Expo, enhancing its contents with additional training activities, dissertations and masters.

"Working with IULM for Expo 2020 Dubai, the first global event following the pandemic, offers us the opportunity to promote the new training approach worldwide based on a truly participatory teaching offer re-generated by a large international network of universities", stated Italy's Commissioner for Expo 2020 Dubai, Paolo Glisenti. "This is a strategic partnership for Italy at Expo in sectors such as culture and communications that are generating profound innovations in their respective employment markets and are therefore quite receptive to the formation of new multidisciplinary and multi-sectoral skills, to which IULM makes a high-impact contribution.

"The University's internationalisation is one of the main points of our Strategic Plan 2019/2021", explained the Dean of Iulm University, Professor Gianni Canova. "In this emergency situation, the challenge of not shutting ourselves within our own borders is even more pressing and we are working on interculturality and to allow our students to dialogue with the world, keeping IULM's prominent position high on the international scene with proper recognition".

IULM University has always held the ideal of internationalisation close to the heart of its own identity; It demonstrates this with over 150 agreements signed off in over 30 nations worldwide, with students of 71 different nationalities signed up, of whom 172 are incoming, and 196 are outgoing. The global approach of the Milanese University aims to forge strategic partnerships and agreements at an international level, but also to provide its students, teachers and staff with a sharing platform capable of promoting cooperation activities in a context of academic excellence, scientific research and human value.
