"I was excited because our school rated second in city. It's one indicator of how well the kids arc doing," said Kate Werkman who drives her children to Victoria School and moved to the city from Red Deer so her children could participate in the alternative program. "Do the ratings matter?To anyone-intereste- d in ourchildrcn's education, they should. The provincial achievement tests, which the ratings arc based on, is available for every ch ild jn grades three and six to write. These test questions arc based on the Alberta Curriculum, which is taught in public schools province wide. The report could be used to estimate how much of the curriculum material the children are absorbing in the classroom. Why or why not the students are absorbing the material in this or that particularclassroom in a particular school is the parad igm that should promote discussion between, parents, educa- tors and local community. This could be a positive thing; the benefactor being the child." In the report schools are marked with a rating from 0 to 1 0 based on the students marks on the G rade Three and Grade Six standardized provincial achievement tests in reading and math. -

DAUGHTERS DAY September 1, 2012 Churchill Square Edmonton, Alberta Souvenir Program Message from Daughters Day Committee Chair Daughters Day is the initiative of over 40 diverse community organizations and many volunteers dedicated to celebrating the lives, contributions, and achievements of all daughters in society, and changing the culture of preference for male children. Daughters Day aims to create a culture of gender equality, respecting and recognizing the human rights of all daughters; celebrating their lives, contributions and achievements; eliminating violence and discrimination; and empowering all daughters so that we can have a perfect Civil Society in Canada, a role model for rest of the world. This celebration is a community event for the whole family, and includes an information fair, children’s activities, proclamation of Daughters Day, messages of support, entertainment, and the Daughters of the Year awards. I wish to thank the Daughters Day founders, advisors, organizing committee members, partner organizations, sponsors, and donors for their support. REPORT TO THE COMMUNITY 2017 First Quarter COMMITTED TO POLICING EXCELLENCE CELEBRATING 125 YEARS OF POLICING IN EDMONTON Events to mark the 125th anniversary began in early January when a new commemorative logo was unveiled. The logo features the silhouettes of two officers: a man with the iconic pith helmet, and a woman wearing today’s standard issue hat. The next event happened on March 7 when the Oilers Entertainment Group showed their gratitude for the EPS by honouring them at a game. As 18,000 hockey fans made their way to the game, they received the newest edition of the EPS Legacy of Heroes Sergeant Dave Hawthorne wore a traditional buffalo coat as he directed pedestrians outside Rogers Place prior to the game. Assisting were Historical Unit member Darren Zimmerman (white pith hat) comic series, and were able to get close up and examine historic vehicles and uniforms Superintendent Chad Tawfik, and Superintendent Ed McIsaac. displayed throughout Ford Hall. Once inside the arena, fans watched the Oilers warm up in custom jerseys bearing EPS shoulder flashes. Then, fans watched a video of the history of the EPS, followed by a performance by the Pipes and Drums of the EPS and the EPS Chorus singing the national anthems. Chief Knecht had help from two honourary police chiefs from the Kids with Cancer organization with dropping the ceremonial puck. On March 11, the festivities continued when current staff, alumni, special guests, volunteers, cadets, and recruits gathered to participate in the 125 Gala. When the 1,000 guests entered the lobby of Shaw Conference Centre, they were greeted by the EPS Honour Guard and Historical Unit members, and were invited to take a trip down memory lane, where mannequins displayed historic EPS uniforms.
