OLDTIMER RALLY 2017 Bank Holiday Mon 28 August www.oldtimer.uk.com CHAIRMAN SECRETARY Michael Stainer Mrs Eileen Watling The Grand Lynsted Cottage The Leas Farthing Common Folkestone Lyminge CT20 2XL UK CT18 8DH UK +44 (0)1303 222 200 +44 (0)1303 863 509 [email protected] [email protected] Although we’ve been rather quiet on the airshow/extra car rally front this year, the weather prognosis for today is excellent! And as it happens, there’s a new development on the car front right now: a group of enthusiasts have decided to form a new club, to be the Grand Oldtimers Car Club, meeting at The Grand at 7pm on the second Wednesday of the month. There have already been two meetings, last month and this month, which have generated a surprising level of interest. It now has its own secretary, Roy Stenning, an organiser for local visits, David Godden, an organiser for possible international visits, Tom Sullivan - well, France at least! - and an enthusiastic core of about 20 members, achieved solely by word of mouth. And some are doing sterling work today helping with the arrangements, particularly the judging. In order to get more information for events other than the planned monthly meetings, at which all are welcome, go onto the Oldtimer website page and sign up by clicking on the banner at the top. Arrangements are intended to be informal, with all information being dealt with electronically thus avoiding the need for any subscription. Regrettably Eileen Watling, our secretary, who has as always performed sterling work in making all the arrangements is now obliged to look after her husband Alfie 24/7 so is again unable to be with us. I’m sure you will wish me to send her your greetings and thanks for her sterling work over so many years to make our rally a possibility. As for the last couple of years, your chairman’s daughters Henriette, 19, on the left, and Julianna, 15, on the right, have stepped in to help organise the arrival arrangements including attending to those who had not previously booked, and are manning the HQ at the Palm Court entrance, where they will from 2pm be collecting your votes for your favourite car. And this year thanks to the good services of my wife Doris you are able to read this programme on mobile devices - Googling ‘Oldtimer Folkestone’ is all it takes! We should also mention our sponsors, as ever Folkestone Town Council’s contribution towards the cost of the plaques and prizes, Shepway District Council who make available The Leas for the rally with the grass finely mown and the flowerbeds looking as good if not better than ever, the police who agree the road closure, Kent County Council who cheerfully permit the display of our rally posters around the district, and not least since last year KMFM with both press and radio coverage.
