Gnaphosidae We studied the impact of sheep and goat grazing on 50 assemblages of ground spiders (Araneae: Gnaphosidae) in Crete phryganic, maquis and forest habitats from zero to 2000 m elevation on Crete, Greece using pitfall traps for one Maquis year at each sampling site. In total, 58 gnaphosid species and 16,592 individuals were collected. Cretan endemic Livestock grazing Gnaphosidae were negatively affected by intensive grazing and, contrary to findings on other taxa studied on the Habitat degradation island, they were sparse and rare throughout the study area. The species composition of gnaphosid assemblages was primarily determined by elevation. Trachyzelotes lyonneti, Urozelotes rusticus, Zelotes scrutatus, Anagraphis pallens and Berinda amabilis proved to be significant indicators of overgrazing. The vast majority of spiders belonging to synanthropic and nationally red-listed species were found in overgrazed sites.

Having played the instru- ment for, then, almost two decades, I thought that a novelist would not, could not, feature specialty instruments such as the C-melody sax if he did not play the horn himself. Once the saxophone had caught my attention, I noticed all sorts of uncommon references that seemed to confirm my hunch that Thomas Pynchon himself played the instrument: McClintic Sphere’s 4½ reed, the contra- bass sax of Against the Day, Gravity’s Rainbow’s Charlie Parker passage.

    southeastern europe 41 (2017) 276-301 brill.com/seeu European Governments’ Responses to the ‘Refugee Crisis’ The Interdependence of eu Internal and External Controls Dimitris Skleparis University of Glasgow, uk [email protected] Abstract In the face of the ‘refugee crisis’, many European governments, even in traditionally liberal states, unilaterally introduced a number of restrictive and, often, controver- sial migration, asylum, and border control policies. The author argues that past legal- bureaucratic choices on migration and asylum policies, ongoing developments in international relations at that time, the structural and perceived capacity of receiving states to cope with the refugee influx, and long-standing migration-related security concerns influenced the responses of many European governments amid the mass population movement. However, the author also suggests that the surfacing of par- ticular policies across Europe was related to the newly elected Greek government’s at- tempted U-turn from similar repressive and controversial policies during that time. In this regard, the author maintains that repressive and controversial migration, asylum, and border control policies cannot simply be abolished within the context of the eu common market and interdependence of eu internal and external controls.     Charted → Overview of Choices budgetary choices 2022-2025 → Analysis of Analysis of election manifestos economic Translation Chapter 1: Outlines effects 10 parties 2000 measures CPB March 2021 1 Outlines of the election manifestos This year is the 10th time that CPB is publishing an analysis of election manifestos of political parties, ahead of the House of Representatives general elections in the Netherlands. Ten political parties accepted CPB’s invitation to participate in this year’s analysis of the budgetary and economic effects of their party’s election manifesto.1 Nine of them also participated in the previous edition (2017), and the 50PLUS party is participating for the first time. For the 10 parties, a total of nearly 2000 measures were analysed. The analysis focuses on medium- and long-term budgetary and economic effects, rather than on welfare across the board. The analysis is of the macroeconomic impact of policy measures, thus representing only one aspect of a broader welfare assessment. A number of other aspects were analysed by PBL Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency, in its analysis of election manifestos. When voting for a particular party, many other considerations obviously also play an important role. Therefore, this analysis should not be considered a fully fledged voting advice tool, but rather an aid that enables concrete comparison of the effects of the parties’ election manifestos with regard to one particular dimension. The value of the analysis is in the comparison between the parties and not in detailed outcomes for any one of them. This edition of Charted Choices was constructed in an unusual economic situation.
