Welcome from CTS Director, Shachar Israel: The 2013 Cleveland Trombone Seminar (CTS) is a 9-day intensive session designed to further the professional education of young trombonists pursuing a life in music. In its second year, the seminar provides ample performance opportunities in a positive learning environment to trombone enthusiasts and music lovers. As we tailor each annual seminar to the attending trombonists within the given year, this second seminar was born anew in anticipation for the 34 talented Participants and Associates who are joining us. Together with faculty members, staff, clinicians and guests, we are all very excited for many recitals, concerts, masterclasses and other seminar events. In addition to the 4 faculty recitals by Haim Avitsur, Mark Lusk, Toby Oft and myself, we will also be presenting a special concert by the Great Whigham, will play his event at Nighttown in Cleveland Heights, together with the Paul Ferguson Octet (see page 12). In producing such an event, the 2013 CTS is supported through generous sponsorships by the Edwards Instruments Company, Royalton Music Center and our host, the Music Department of Cleveland State University. I would like to thank these gracious benefactors along with a few anonymous donors who provide for an incredible foundation for this seminar.
