It’s time to renew your CKC membership and there have been some changes we’d like to share with you.

Our Board of Directors has asked us to simplify the way that you renew each year and we’ve done our best to offer you more choice and streamline this process for Members.

Beginning in 2010, a special CKC supplement, formerly known as the Official Section will be bound into your copy of Dogs in Canada magazine. Dogs in Canada magazine, featuring the new supplement will be optional and be offered to Members at a best-price subscription rate of just $30.00*. You’ll receive 12 issues of the award-winning Dogs in Canada magazine and your Member Subscription will once again include the Dogs in Canada Annual.

Like last year, your Regular Primary membership with the Club will be $35.55* and will include all the rights and privileges you are entitled to as a Member, including benefits such as access to the members-only Official Section Online on the website, receipt of the monthly electronic newsletter The Bulletin and discounts on Club services and advertisements in DIC Annual.

Your October Member Credit Account statement reflects a charge for both your membership ($35.55*) and a subscription to the Dogs in Canada magazine ($30.00*) for a total of $65.55*, as that is how the vast majority of members choose to renew. If you do not wish to subscribe to Dogs in Canada magazine, featuring bonus content from the Official Section, simply indicate that on your statement reply to us or call our Client Services team at 416-674-3699.

Two and three-year memberships are available again this year. It’s a great way to avoid future price increases and hassles renewing each year. If you are interested, be sure to indicate your choice on your statement reply.

If you participate in the Joint Household membership program, all membership renewals for members of your household will also appear on the October statement for the Primary Member. Please remember that Household memberships cannot be renewed without first renewing the Primary Member.

You are encouraged to pay your membership renewal no later than December 15th in order to ensure that your membership is renewed before year-end. If we receive payment after December 15th, you may experience an interruption in your services and benefits.

All payments received are first applied to any outstanding balance on your account so it is important that you remit sufficient funds to pay for any outstanding balance on your account plus your membership renewal fees.

Upon payment of your renewal fees, your 2010 renewal card sticker will be mailed to you by the end of February. Life Members, who have completed 30 years of service with the Club, are renewed automatically each year without charge and do not receive renewal stickers. New Life Members will receive gold cards and pins acknowledging their service with the Club in January.

PROFILINGYOURDIRECTORS RICHARD PAQUETTE CKC DIRECTOR ZONE 4, ONTARIO NORTH I have been involved in purebred dogs since 1971. I began my career in dogs with primarily Shih Tzu, but along the way have owned and bred Samoyeds, Afghans, Salukis, Whippets, Brussels Griffon, Maltese, Pekingese, Lakeland Terriers and Wire Fox Terriers. Shih Tzu and Lakelands are my main breeds and I have produced over 250 Canadian Champions, 60 American Champions, 16 different Best in Show winners and 10 National Specialty winning dogs.

I am now a retired professional dog handler, a profession I have enjoyed for 15 years. During this time, I finished over 500 champions in 80 different breeds and won over 150 All Breed Best in Shows on 16 different breeds. I also owned and piloted a Lakeland Terrier, "Danny", Am Can Bda Ch Jamelyn’s Second Edition to #1 All Breeds in Canada in 1989.

I have served on the executives of All Breed and Specialty breed clubs and I am currently serving on the Board of the Canadian Kennel Club. I have been honored with life member- ships in the Canadian Kennel Club, the Sudbury & District Kennel Club and the Canadian Shih Tzu Club. I have also been awarded an Honourary Membership in the Canadian Professional Handlers Association.

I am a CKC Licensed All Breed judge and a founding member of the Canadian Dog Judges Association (CDJA) and a member of the American Dog Judges Association (ADSJA). In addition to Canada and the USA, I have judged in Australia, New Zealand, Bermuda, Colombia, Chile, Japan, Mexico, Philippines, Taiwan, South Africa, Denmark, Italy, Finland, Sweden and Ireland.

I am pleased to be the Canadian Kennel Club Director for Ontario North. I am also Chairperson of the Junior Kennel Club and Board liaison to the Breeder Relations Committee, which are areas that I am quite passionate about.

I enjoy hearing from members who would like to voice any concerns with the CKC or our sport of purebred dogs.

Please note that rules and policy changes Tshown below are paraphrased for the sake of brevity. In the event of dispute, the specific wording of such changes should be taken from the official minutes of the Board meeting. The detailed minutes of the meeting will be formally approved at the next regular meeting of the Board.

1. Minutes of the April 30th and May 1st, 2009 meeting of the Board of Directors were approved as amended. 2. The following book was received for the library: The Magnificent Labrador, Colonel K.M. Roy (author), Shani Muni Printers, Lahore, Pakistan, published January 2001. 3. The following correspondence was received: • Letter from the FCI Re: Sending documents exclusively by email. • Letter from Yves De Clercq, Executive Director, FCI enclosing copy of their 2008 annual report. • Letter from Joselito Rosales, General Manager, The Philippine Canine Club, Inc. enclosing copy of their 2008 annual report. • Letter from the Asian Kennel Club Union of the Philippines, Inc. (AKCUPI) re: Request to not ban judges of non-member clubs like the AKC, CKC and KC from officiating at FCI shows or shows of FCI member clubs on the mere reason that they judged at AKCUPI shows. • Correspondence between Romanian Kennel Club and CKC re: Recognition of their pedigrees and their registry. • Letter from Inge Coulter re: Message from the Board in the July 2009 issue of the Official Section. • Letter from Canadian Mastiff Club re: Celebrating Their 25th Anniversary. 4. Mr. Joe Mauro, Chief Executive Officer presented the CEO report. As part of that report, Ms. Ann McDonagh, Publisher, Apex Publishing Ltd. presented the Apex Publishing report. 5. The Board approved the CKC/FCI draft agreement. 6. Amendments were approved to the Breed Standard – Barbet faults, effective January 1, 2010. 7. Reports were presented from the following committees: • Breeder Relations Committee • Club Relations Committee • Strategic Planning Committee • Legislation Committee • Responsible Dog Ownership Committee • Purina National Event Committee • Genetics and Medical Committee • Multi-Disciplinary Committee (Accessibility for Persons with Disabilities). • Audit Committee 8. Dr. David Sheridan, Senior Consultant and Principal, Shercon Associates Inc. led the meeting in a six-month check up of the Strategic Plan. 9. The following amendments were made to the Conformation Show Rules & Regulations, effective January 1st, 2010: • Section 10.16 – Rings, Facilities & Equipment. The amendment was made to require a show-giving club to pro- vide a ramp for use at the discretion of the judge. • Appendix F – Judging Ramp Specifications. • Tables & Ramps. 10. The following amendments were made to the Agility Rules & Regulations, effective January 1st, 2010: • Chapter 2, Section 2.10.3. An amendment to provide one warm up area for each agility ring. • Appendix B – Obstacle Construction Specifications. An amendment to clarify the specifications for Weave Poles. • Appendix B – Obstacles Construction Specifications - The A-frame. 11. Agility Judges Guidelines were approved. 12. The following amendments were made to the Lure Coursing Field Trial Rules & Regulations, effective January 1st, 2010: • Chapter 3 - Judges, Section 4.1 - Apprenticing to allow judges the opportunity to apprentice at ASFA trials for breeds that might not be running in CKC trials. • Section 7.1.1 to allow dogs that are not yet 12 months of age to enter into a Trial where entries close prior to the trial. The dog may be 11 months of age when entries close, but 12 months of age at the time of the actual event.

10 November 2009 • CKC OFFICIAL SECTION Supplement to Dogs in Canada • Chapter 6 – Regulations for Performance & Standard of Judging, Section 6.1 – Judging to provide the judge more opportunity to give the dog the benefit of re-running if necessary. • Section 3.3.1 (d) an amendment to judges qualifications (Sighthound breeds) • Section 6.1 to ensure clubs do not have to hire an additional judge “just in case” a certain breed enters. 13. An amendment effective January 1, 2010 to the Field Dog Test Rules & Regulations for Pointing Breeds, Section 6.8.1 giving clubs the option to announce test scores. 14. The following policies passed, effective January 1, 2011 regarding accommodation of persons with disabilities: • All premium lists will include a statement regarding accommodation of persons with disabilities • A new section e) and f) will be added to Policy & Procedures Manual, Chapter VI-Shows & Trials, Section Q,3 – Contracts & Cancellations • A new section 5.3 will be added to Conformation Show Rules & Regulations, Chapter 5 – Show Officials & Ring Stewards • All rulebooks will include a statement regarding accommodation of a handler with disabilities provided that such accommodation does not aid the dog’s performance or inhibit other dogs 15. The following were referred to the Conformation Council: • Conformation Show Rules, 8.5, Acceptance of Entries: Entries for ‘Multiple Shows on Same Date’ (limited entry) • Conformation Show Rules 8.7 Withdrawal of Entries • Consecutive Dog Show • Reserve Best in Show • Judges Meal Period • Judging Sweepstakes (4.4.3) • Breed Classes • The concept of gate entries at CKC events 16. The following were referred to the Events Officiating Committee: • Ring Steward Forms • Adjusting Judging Schedule • Judging Sweepstakes (4.4.3) 17. The CKC member Code of Ethics was referred to the Legislation Committee for review. 18. The question of integration of alternative medicine with traditional treatment for dogs was referred to the Genetics and Medical Committee. 19. A recommendation from the Doberman Pinscher Club of Canada to replace the current Policy on Cropping and Docking was referred to the Multi-Disciplinary Committee (Cropping and Docking). 20. The Board approved changes to the Official Section that would see 12 issues maintained and bound-in with Dogs In Canada at a subscription rate of $30. 21. CKC second quarter financial reports were received. 22. Apex Publishing Ltd. second quarter financial reports were received. 23. A motion was passed to begin the process of banning the registration of Merle Chihuahuas. 24. A correction was made to the Chihuahua breed standards by deleting the word “colour” under disqualifica- tions. 25. A revision to the Glossary in Official Breed Standards regarding the colour “Merle” was referred to the Breed Standards Committee. 26. A motion was approved that the Chair attend the National General Kennel Club of China’s Show, November 17th to 29th, 2009. 27. An amendment to Policy and Procedures Manual, Committees, Councils and Appointments, Section G.4.A allows the Examining Committee Chair to appoint a CKC member to represent him or her at an examination committee meeting. 28. Saskatchewan Board Member, Mr. John Werle, was added to the Multi-Disciplinary Committee (Cropping and Docking). 29. A motion to establish DNA protocols by June 2010 if the CKC Board chooses to require a DNA profile for all CKC recognized breeds was referred to the Genetics & Medical Committee.

Veuillez prendre note Vque toute modification aux règlements ou aux politiques dans le présent résumé a été paraphrasée par souci de concision. En cas de doute, la formulation exacte de telles modifications doit être tirée du procès-verbal officiel de la réunion du Conseil. 1. Le procès-verbal de la réunion du Conseil du 30 avril et 1er mai 2009 est adopté tel que modifié. 2. Le livre suivant est reçu pour la bibliothèque : Colonel K.M. Le Conseil approuve le projet d'accord CCC/FCI. 6. Les modifications au standard de race du barbet sont approuvées - Caractéristiques éliminatoires - pour entrer en vigueur le 1er janvier 2010. 7. Le Dr David Sheridan, consultant senior principal, Shercon Associates Inc. anime une séance sur un bilan de six mois du plan stratégique. 9. Les modifications suivantes sont apportées aux Règlements des expositions de conformation pour entrer en vigueur le 1er janvier 2010 : • Article 10.16 – Enceinte, installations et équipement. Une modification est apportée visant à exiger que le club orga- nisateur de l’exposition fournisse une rampe qui sera utilisée à la discrétion du juge. • Annexe F - Spécifications de la rampe • Tables et rampes. 10. Les modifications suivantes sont apportées aux Règlements des concours d’agilité pour entrer en vigueur le 1er janvier 2010 : • Chapitre 2, article 2.10.3. Une modification visant à fournir une zone d'échauffement dans chaque enceinte d’agilité. • Annexe B – Normes de construction des obstacles (détails). Une modification visant à clarifier les spécifications du slalom. • Annexe B – Normes de construction des obstacles (détails) - La palissade. 11. Les directives pour les juges d’agilité sont approuvées. 12. Les modifications suivantes sont apportées aux Règlements des concours sur le terrain de course sur leurre pour entrer en vigueur le 1er janvier 2010 :

10 novembre 2009 • SECTION OFFICIELLE DU CCC Supplément à Dogs in Canada • Chapitre 3 - Juges, article 4.1 – Apprentissage visant à offrir aux juges la possibilité d’accomplir leur mandats d’apprenti lors des concours de l’American Sighthhound Field Association (ASFA) pour les chiens des races qui ne participeront peut- être pas aux concours du CCC. • Article 7.1.1 visant à permettre l’inscription de chiens n’étant pas encore âgés de 12 mois aux concours dont les inscrip- tions prennent fin avant le déroulement du concours même. Le chien peut être âgé de 11 mois au moment de la clôture des inscriptions, mais être âgé de 12 mois au moment où l’événement a effectivement lieu. • Chapitre 6 – Règlements sur la performance et normes de jugement, article 6.1 – Un jugement visant à fournir au juge plus de possibilité d’accorder la reprise au chien si nécessaire. • Article 3.3.1 (d) Une modification aux qualifications du juge (races de chiens de chasse à vue). • Article 6.1 visant à assurer que les clubs ne sont pas obligés d’embaucher de juge supplémentaire au cas où des chiens d’une certaine race sont inscrits. 13. Une modification qui entrera en vigueur le 1er janvier 2010 est apportée aux Règlements des concours sur le terrain pour chiens d’arrêt, article 6.8.1 donnant aux clubs l’option d’annoncer le résultat des tests. 14. Les politiques suivantes, visant à accommoder les personnes handicapées, qui entreront en vigueur 1er janvier 2011, sont adoptées : • Tout programme officiel doit inclure un énoncé visant à accommoder les personnes handicapées. • De nouveaux alinéas (e) et (f) seront ajoutés aux Manuel des politiques et des procédures, chapitre VI - Expositions et con- cours, Section Q, 3 – Contrats et annulations. • Un nouveau paragraphe 5.3 sera ajouté aux Règlements des expositions de conformation, chapitre 5 – Officiels de l’expo- sition et préposés d'enceinte. • Tout livre de règlements doit inclure un énoncé visant à accommoder les personnes handicapées, à condition qu’un tel accommodement n’aide pas la performance du chien et n’entrave pas d’autres chiens. 15. Les points suivants sont renvoyés au Conseil des expositions de conformation : • Règlements des expositions de conformation, 8.5, Acceptation des inscriptions : Inscriptions aux « expositions multiples se tenant la même date » (inscription limitée) • Règlements des expositions de conformation, 8.7 Retrait des inscriptions • Expositions canines consécutives • Meilleur de l’exposition – gagnant de réserve • Heure de repas pour le juge • Jugement des Sweepstakes (4.4.3) • Classes pour race(s) spécifique(s) • Le concept des inscriptions à l’entrée lors des événements du CCC. 16. Les points suivants sont renvoyés au Comité de surveillance des événements : • Formulaires pour les préposés d'enceinte • Ajustement de l’horaire du jugement • Jugement des Sweepstakes (4.4.3). 17. Le Code de déontologie pour membres du CCC est renvoyé au Comité de législation pour étude. 18. La question de l’intégration de la médecine alternative avec les traitements habituels pour le chien est renvoyée au Comité de génétique et de médecine. 19. Une recommandation de la part du Doberman Pinscher Club of Canada visant à remplacer la politique actuelle sur la coupe d'oreilles et de queue est renvoyée au Comité pluridisciplinaire (coupe d'oreilles et de queue). 20. Le Conseil d’administration approuve les modifications à la Section officielle visant à conserver la diffusion de 12 copies imprimées et insérée dans la revue Dogs In Canada pour le prix d'abonnement de 30 $ 21. Les rapports financiers du CCC pour le deuxième trimestre sont acceptés. 22. Les rapports financiers d’Apex Publishing Ltd. pour le deuxième trimestre sont acceptés. 23. Une motion est adoptée visant à entamer le processus de l’interdiction de l’enregistrement du chihuahua merle. 24. Une correction est apportée au standard de race du chihuahua en supprimant le mot ‘couleur’ dans la partie « Caractéristiques éliminatoires » 25. La révision de la couleur ‘merle’ au glossaire des Standards de races officiel est renvoyée au Comité des standards de race. 26. Une motion est adoptée autorisant le Président à assister à l’exposition du National General Kennel Club de Chine du 17 au 29 novembre 2009. 27. J’œuvre dans le domaine des chiens de race pure depuis 1971. J’ai commencé ma carrière de cynophile essentiellement avec la race shih tzu, mais par la suite, j’ai possédé et élevé des chiens de diverses races : des samoyèdes, des lévriers afghan, des lévriers persane, des whippets, des griffons (bruxellois), des bichons maltais, des pékinois, des terriers Lakeland et des fox terriers (à poil dur). Les shih tzu et les terriers Lakeland sont mes races principales, et j’ai produit plus de 250 cham- pions canadiens, 60 champions américains, 16 gagnants dif- férents du prix Meilleur de l’exposition et 10 chiens gagnants d’expositions nationales pour races spécifiques.

Je suis maintenant un manieur professionnel à la retraite; j’ai pris plaisir à pratiquer la carrière de manieur pendant 15 ans. Pendant ladite période, j’ai manié plus de 500 champions de 80 races dif- férentes et j’ai remporté plus de 150 prix Meilleur de l’exposition avec des chiens de 16 races dif- férentes. De plus, j’étais le propriétaire du terrier Lakeland, Danny", Ch. Am. Can. Bda Jamelyn’s Second Edition que j’ai manié jusqu’à l’obtention du premier classement dans l’exposition toutes races du Canada en 1989.

J’ai siégé aux comités exécutifs de clubs toutes races et de clubs de race(s) spécifique(s) et, à présent, je fais partie du Conseil d’administration du Club Canin Canadien. J’ai eu l’honneur de me voir octroyer le statut de membre à vie du Club Canin Canadien, du Sudbury & District Kennel Club et du Canadian Shih Tzu Club. De plus, le statut de membre honoraire m’a été conféré par la Canadian Professional Handlers Association (Association canadienne des manieurs professionnels).

Par ailleurs, je suis juge autorisé toutes races du CCC, membre fondateur de la Canadian Dog Judges Association (CDJA) et membre de l’American Dog Judges Association (ADSJA). En plus de faire fonc- tion de juge au Canada et aux États-Unis, j’ai également été juge en Australie, en Nouvelle-Zélande, aux Bermudes, en Colombie, au Chili, au Japon, au Mexique, aux Philippines, à Taïwan, en Afrique du Sud, au Danemark, en Italie, en Finlande, en Suède et en Irlande.

Je suis heureux d’être le membre du Conseil pour Ontario – Nord. Je suis également président du Conseil des clubs canins pour jeunes et membre du Conseil d’administration auprès du Comité des affaires d'élevage. Ce sont là deux secteurs d'activités dont je suis vraiment passionné.

C’est le temps de renouveler votre adhésion au CCC et il y a des changements dont nous voudrions vous faire part. Le Conseil d’administration nous a demandé de simplifier la façon dont le renouvellement se fait à chaque année, et nous nous sommes efforcés d’offrir plus de choix tout en rationalisant ce processus pour les membres.

À compter de 2010, un supplément spécial du CCC, anciennement appelé la Section Officielle, sera relié et inséré dans votre exemplaire de la revue Dogs in Canada. La revue Dogs in Canada mettant en vedette le nouveau supplément sera au choix et sera offert aux membres au meilleur prix d'abonnement de 30 00 $. Vous recevrez 12 numéros de la revue primée Dogs in Canada et, encore une fois, votre abonnement inclura le Dogs in Canada Annual.

Comme l’an dernier, vos droits d’adhésion primaire, catégorie régulière seront de 35 55 $* et cela inclura tous les droits et privilèges qui vous sont dus en tant que membre, y compris les avantages comme l’accès à la Section Officielle en direct pour membres seulement sur le site Web, le mensuel électronique Le bulletin, des escomptes sur les services du Club, et la possibilité de publier des annonces dans le Dogs in Canada Annual.

Votre relevé de compte de crédit de membre pour octobre indique un montant comprenant les droits d’adhésion (35 55 $*) et le prix d'abonnement à la revue Dogs in Canada (30 00 $*) pour un total de 65 55 $*, puisque c’est la façon dont la grande majorité des membres préfèrent renouveler leur statut de membre. Si vous ne désirez pas vous abonner à la revue Dogs in Canada mettant en vedette le contenu boni tiré de la Section Officielle, il suffit de nous indiquer cela sur le bordereau-réponse annexé à votre relevé ou de communiquer avec notre Service à la clientèle en composant le 416-674-3699.

Le renouvellement d’adhésion de 2 et 3 ans est offert encore cette année. C’est une façon idéale d’éviter de futures augmentations de droits et les complications rattachées au renouvellement annuel. Si cela vous intéresse, prenez le soin d’indiquer votre choix sur le bordereau-réponse annexé à votre relevé.

Si vous participez au programme d’adhésion familiale, le renouvellement de l’adhésion des membres de votre ménage figurera également sur le relevé de compte pour octobre du membre primaire. N’oubliez pas que l’ad- hésion familiale ne peut être renouvelée que si l’adhésion primaire est renouvelée au préalable.

On vous encourage à payer vos frais de renouvellement au plus tard le 15 décembre afin d’assurer que votre adhésion est renouvelée avant la fin de l’année. Si votre paiement ne nous parvient qu’après le 15 décembre, il se peut que vos services et avantages soient interrompus.

Tous les paiements reçus servent en premier à payer tout solde en souffrance sur votre compte. C’est donc important que vous envoyiez assez de fonds pour couvrir le solde impayé sur votre compte aussi bien que les droits de renouvellement de votre adhésion.

Lorsque vous aurez payé vos frais de renouvellement, votre vignette de membre pour 2010 vous sera expédiée au plus tard en fin février. L’adhésion des membres à vie, soit ceux qui ont complété 30 ans de service auprès de Club, est renouvelée automatiquement sans frais, mais ces personnes ne reçoivent pas de vignette de membre. Les nouveaux membres à vie recevront en janvier des cartes dorées et des épingles-souvenir en reconnais- sance de leur long service au Club.
