Islington U3A Longer Walks Group

Walk Title , Greenwich and Blackheath Walk No. 165 Area Type Linear but almost circular Date Wednesday15th November 2017 Distance 8 to 9 miles depending on weather Timing 3 and a half hours walking time + travel + lunch stop. Allow 6 to 6 and a half hours in total. Therefore expect to be back in Islington by 4 pm Meeting up Meet at Highbury and Islington at 9.25am. We will take the 9.34am & travel London Overground to and then the 9.55am DLR to Crossharbour arriving at 10.06am. Meet on middle level exit at Crossharbour (not lower street level). Route Head west along Pepper Street towards Glengall Bridge but turn left before bridge along east side of .East across Mudchute Park to Cubitt Town Wharf and . (Possible extension to Burrells Wharf and Great Eastern Pier). Through foot tunnel to Greenwich and across Greenwich Park to Blackheath Vale. Continue west to Elliot Vale, down into the former valley of the Kid Brook towards Lee. From here the route heads back towards Blackheath with views over the Quaggy valley. From Blackheath Halls we will explore Blackheath Park and the Cator Estate and head on towards Morden College and The Paragon before returning to the Heath. After lunch a different route to Greenwich will be taken and we will return from Cutty Sark DLR. Lunch Choice of pubs in Blackheath Vale Dropping out Greenwich (Cutty Sark DLR) and Blackheath Station (frequent trains to Charing Cross, Victoria and Cannon Street). Suitability Suitable for any reasonably fit regular walker. Walking is mostly on paths or pavements. May be muddy in Mudchute Park depending on route taken. Comfortable walking shoes or boots.
