MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT, ACHIEVEMENTS AS AT JULY, 2017

Achievements recorded in protection of the environment sector under the period of review are:

1. AFFORESTATION AND REFORESTATION PROGRAMME

 Raised and distributed 2.5 million of assorted seedlings  Established 10 km of shelterbelts , , , and Birniwa local government areas.  Facilitate the establishment of 30 kms of shelterbelt by (NAGGW) in Birniwa, Sule Tankarkar, Babura local government areas.  Facilitate enrichment planting of 100 hectares of degraded forest reserves at Shabarun Jeke, Dankulili, Mairoba, Lula, Fulanin Hardo Kosan and Mairakumin Dulo in Sule Tankarkar, Maigatari and Birniwa LGAs.  Supported the establishment of individual woodlots across the state.  Supported 16 schools and 70 primary health care facilities with tree seedlings and planted in their respective domicile.  Collaborate with road construction companies and conducted road site tree planting exercise i.e. – Bosuwa road, Mai – Hannun Giwa road, Tasheguwa – Guri road  Conducted emirates tree planting campaigns.  Supported NYSC to planting trees in NYSC orientation camp .  Fabrication of 5,000 units of improved economic wood stove

2. EQUATIC WEEDS INVASION CONTROL Supported manual river channel clearance by identifying 15 self-help organization along river covering 13 Local Government Areas of , Taura, , Miga, Kaugama, , , Hadejia, , Kirikasamma, Guri, Birniwa and .

3. ENVIRONMENTAL SANITATION  Supported local governments help self groups with sanitation working materials.  Conducted periodic sanitation exercise at major towns of the state.  Knock down mosquitoes spray at Gidan Gudus in Duru ward Dutse LGA.

4. FLOOD AND EROSION CONTROL  Construction of drainages and culverts at Basirka , Makara Duhu quarters Hadejia. Galamawa, Limawa, Garu Dutse, Chamo, Yalleman, and Ashura Chiroma towns in Gwaram, Hadejia, Dutse, Kaugama and Kafin Hausa LGAs.  Pumping out of storm water at Akama pond Jahun and Mailolo pond in Hadejia town.  River embankment at Girdo/Matsa, Gilakocini and Maragwado in Malam Madori and Kirikasamma LGA.
