Juli in Berlin Am 30. September bringen PIXIES ihr neues Studioalbum “Head Carrier“ über Pixiesmusic/Play It Again Sam heraus. Die von Tom Dalgety (Killing Joke, Royal Blood) im Londoner Rak Studio aufgenommenen 12 Songs bilden eine typisch-krude Mischung aus Surrealismus, Psychedelia und Surf-Rock. Zeitgleich zur Albumankündigung veröffentlicht die Band den ersten Song “Um Chagga Lagga“, der auf pixiesmusic.com erhältlich ist. Zum ersten Mal seit den Anfängen der PIXIES verbrachte die Band insgesamt sechs Wochen lang gemeinsam in der Vorproduktion, beim Schreiben, Arrangieren und Proben der neuen Songs. "This was a wonderful luxury, for us to have the time to be able to really work these new songs out," sagt PIXIES Drummer David Lovering. "By the time we started recording, we all knew the songs backwards and forwards, so it took half as long for us to make this album as it did to make “Indie Cindy”. And it was great working with Tom...he started with us in pre-production and played a big part in keeping us focused on making the best music we could.” "I was very nervous in the beginning when I went to that first rehearsal," sagt Lenchantin."There were these shoes I felt I had to fill and I tried to do the best I could for the fans, to make the live performances sound true to the originals. I spent three years learning to understand what being a Pixie meant, and now, my heart, spirit, and love for their music is embedded in me and I feel like I have become a Pixie. We had been more about the history of the Pixies, but now, we are about going forward." Darüber hinaus heißt die Band die Bassistin Paz Lenchantin offiziell in dem permanenten PIXIES Line-up willkommen. Lenchantin ist seit Januar 2014 die mittourende Bassistin der Band und spielte eine wesentliche Rolle bei den Aufnahmen zu “Head Carrier”. Auf “All I Think About Now“, einem Song, den sie mit Frank Black geschrieben hat, übernimmt sie mit ihrem kühl-verträumten Sopran den Leadgesang. Erstes wirklich neues Album nach Reunion Pixies präsentieren weiteren Song 19. August 2016, Von: Redaktion Die Bostoner Independent Band Pixies hat für den 30. September ihr erstes neues Studioalbum seit der Reunion 2004 angekündigt. Einen ersten Vorboten namens „Um Chagga Lagga“ hat die Band bereits ins Rennen geschickt, nun folgt mit „Talent“ ein weiterer Song vom neuen Werk. Der neue Song „Talent“ ist eine Hommage an den ukrainischen Schauspieler Jack Palance, der aus Filmen wie „Batman“ bekannt ist und 2006 verstarb. Die Facebook Fans der Pixies zeigen sich gespalten, viele fanden diesen oder den ersten Vorabsong besser, zeigen sich wenig euphorisch, wohingegen andere Fans bereits ihre Liebe zum Song bekunden. Bereits 1986 gründeten sich die Pixies in Boston. Sänger Black Francis und Gitarrist Joey Santiago starteten die Band und bald stießen Bassistin Kim Deal und Schalgzeuger David Lovering dazu. Die erste EP „Come On Pilgrim“ wurde ein Jahr später veröffentlicht. Mit ihren Alben konnten sich die Pixies regelmäßig in den Charts platzieren, einer ihrer größten Hits ist der Song „Where Is My Mind?“ vom 1988er Debütalbum „Surfer Rosa“, der als Soundtrack des Kultfilms „Fight Club“ diente. Obwohl „Where Is My Mind?“ nie als Single veröffentlicht wurde, ist er der bekannteste Track der Band. Das neue Album „Head Carrier“ erscheint am 30. September über das bandeigene Label Pixiesmusic. Vor zwei Jahren veröffentlichten die Pixies bereits „Indie Cindy“, allerdings war auf diesem Album kein wirklich neues Material zu finden, sondern lediglich drei EPs, die im Vorfeld separat veröffentlicht wurden. Välkommen till Pixies nya studioalbum, “Beneath the Eyrie”, där sagor om häxor, Daniel Boone, missanpassade och andra karaktärer passar perfekt in i bandets medfödda dysfunktionalitet. Skivan innehåller 12 låtar och släpps – både digitalt och fysiskt - idag via Pixies nya label Infectious/BMG. Lyssna på albumet HÄR! Vi har redan fått två smakprov från plattan. Först kom ”On Graveyard Hill”, en klassisk Pixies-berättelse om omedelbar och överhängande undergång, skriven av Black Francis och Paz Lenchantin. För några veckor sedan släpptes “Catfish Kate”, som är en djupdykning i bandets frontman, Black Francis, mentala fantasivärld. ”Beneath The Eyrie” är inspelat i Dreamland Recordings nära Woodstock, NY. Producent är Grammy-nominerade Tom Dalgety (Ghost, Royal Blood, Pixies). Albumet fick sitt namn när David Lovering tog en paus utanför studion (som från början är en kyrka, St Johns Church, byggd i slutet av 1800-talet). Plötsligt upptäckte han ett örnbo, eller ”eyrie”, i ett träd i närheten - och skivans titel var ett faktum. Samtidigt med inspelningarna av albumet valde Pixies att dokumentera varje del av processen och berätta om vad som ägde rum i studion. Detta sammanställdes sen till en podcast i tolv delar som har fått titeln ”It’s A Pixies Podcast”. I podden får vi en unik inblick i hur alla spåren på skivan kom till; från början till slutförandet. Abstract approved:_____________________________________________________ Ryann Reynolds-McIlnay The rise of digital streaming has largely impacted the way the average listener consumes music. Consequentially, while the role of album art has evolved to meet the changes in music technology, it is hard to measure the effect of digital streaming on modern album art. This research seeks to determine whether or not graphic design still plays a role in marketing information about the music, such as its genre, to the consumer. It does so through two studies: 1. A computer visual analysis that measures color dominance of an image, and 2. A mixed-design lab experiment with volunteer participants who attempt to assess the genre of a given album. Findings from the first study show that color scheme models created from album samples cannot be used to predict the genre of an album. Further findings from the second theory show that consumers pay a significant amount of attention to album covers, enough to be able to correctly assess the genre of an album most of the time.

Rhymes and Linkin Park recently collaborated on “We Made It,” the first single and video from Rhymes’ upcoming album, Blessed. By touring together, Linkin Park & Busta are taking a cue from the chorus of their song: “…we took it on the road…”. As recently pointed out in Rolling Stone’s “Summer Tour Guide,” the tour will see nine acts joining rock superstars Linkin Park, who are also offering concertgoers a digital souvenir pack that includes a recording of the band’s entire set. For Immediate Release July 18th, 2011 KAURA to Release New Full-Length CD/DVD, ‘That Which Defines Us’, on September 20th, 2011 California natives KAURA (pronounced kay-aura) were born from the vision of infusing the aggressive power of hard, melodic rock with the haunting and ethereal sounds of ancient instruments. The band is proud to release their anticipated debut full-length CD/DVD, That Which Defines Us, on September 20th, 2011. Produced by singer Malcolm Guess, the album is a testament of dedication, taking over two years to record with the assistance of rock luminaries such as Sylvia Massey (Tool, System of a Down, Danzig), Ken Andrews (Failure, A Perfect Circle) and Michael Romanowski (Dredg). Central to the album’s sound were instruments that the band collected on their travels to India, Thailand, Bali, Cambodia, Laos, and Nepal. “We were really drawn to the sounds of these instruments because they are not traditionally heard in modern rock music,” explains guitarist Ben Rojas. Drummer Benjamin Jones adds, “We have always strived to create our own unique voice and incorporating these instruments helps us do that and create a really expansive depth of sound.” The DVD portion of the set includes two music videos directed by drummer Benjamin Jones for the songs ‘Ephemeral Fall’ and ‘Silence Speaks Louder’.
