Intuitivt, musikaliskt, filmiskt, verklighetsfrånvänt - och ändå underligt bekant och nästan obehagligt oroande. Välkommen till Pixies nya studioalbum, “Beneath the Eyrie”, där sagor om häxor, Daniel Boone, missanpassade och andra karaktärer passar perfekt in i bandets medfödda dysfunktionalitet. Skivan innehåller 12 låtar och släpps – både digitalt och fysiskt - idag via Pixies nya label Infectious/BMG. Lyssna på albumet HÄR! Vi har redan fått två smakprov från plattan. Först kom ”On Graveyard Hill”, en klassisk Pixies-berättelse om omedelbar och överhängande undergång, skriven av Black Francis och Paz Lenchantin. För några veckor sedan släpptes “Catfish Kate”, som är en djupdykning i bandets frontman, Black Francis, mentala fantasivärld. ”Beneath The Eyrie” är inspelat i Dreamland Recordings nära Woodstock, NY. Producent är Grammy-nominerade Tom Dalgety (Ghost, Royal Blood, Pixies). Albumet fick sitt namn när David Lovering tog en paus utanför studion (som från början är en kyrka, St Johns Church, byggd i slutet av 1800-talet). Plötsligt upptäckte han ett örnbo, eller ”eyrie”, i ett träd i närheten - och skivans titel var ett faktum. Samtidigt med inspelningarna av albumet valde Pixies att dokumentera varje del av processen och berätta om vad som ägde rum i studion. Detta sammanställdes sen till en podcast i tolv delar som har fått titeln ”It’s A Pixies Podcast”. I podden får vi en unik inblick i hur alla spåren på skivan kom till; från början till slutförandet. HÄR kan du lyssna på podcasten! Under 2019 och 2020 åker Pixies ut på en världsturne med premiär på Daydream Festival i Pasadena, USA den 31 augusti. Den 30 september kommer bandet till Cirkus i Stockholm. Det finns, har funnits och kommer alltid bara att finnas ett Pixies. När bandet bildades i mitten av 80-talet och började slamra fram konstpunk var det nog ingen som kunde ana att de nu, trettio år senare, skulle räknas som ett av det sena 1900-talets allra viktigaste band. Men så är det. Utan Pixies inget Nirvana, inget Blur, inget Weezer, kanske inte ens ett Radiohead. Vilken fattig värld vi hade levt i. Consequentially, while the role of album art has evolved to meet the changes in music technology, it is hard to measure the effect of digital streaming on modern album art. This research seeks to determine whether or not graphic design still plays a role in marketing information about the music, such as its genre, to the consumer. It does so through two studies: 1. A computer visual analysis that measures color dominance of an image, and 2. A mixed-design lab experiment with volunteer participants who attempt to assess the genre of a given album. Findings from the first study show that color scheme models created from album samples cannot be used to predict the genre of an album. Further findings from the second theory show that consumers pay a significant amount of attention to album covers, enough to be able to correctly assess the genre of an album most of the time.

For Immediate Release July 18th, 2011 KAURA to Release New Full-Length CD/DVD, ‘That Which Defines Us’, on September 20th, 2011 California natives KAURA (pronounced kay-aura) were born from the vision of infusing the aggressive power of hard, melodic rock with the haunting and ethereal sounds of ancient instruments. The band is proud to release their anticipated debut full-length CD/DVD, That Which Defines Us, on September 20th, 2011. Produced by singer Malcolm Guess, the album is a testament of dedication, taking over two years to record with the assistance of rock luminaries such as Sylvia Massey (Tool, System of a Down, Danzig), Ken Andrews (Failure, A Perfect Circle) and Michael Romanowski (Dredg). Central to the album’s sound were instruments that the band collected on their travels to India, Thailand, Bali, Cambodia, Laos, and Nepal. “We were really drawn to the sounds of these instruments because they are not traditionally heard in modern rock music,” explains guitarist Ben Rojas.
