Inventario De La Biblioteca Martín Gaite Advertimos que la relación de esta biblioteca personal de Carmen Martín Gaite no ofrece una idea exacta de sus lecturas por varias razones. En primer lugar, ella utilizó a lo largo de su vida distintas bibliotecas públicas: la Biblioteca del Ateneo, la Nacional, la del CSIC y la del Círculo de Bellas Artes, principalmente. En segundo lugar, no era una bibliófila y acostumbraba a regalar sus libros entre sus amigos, cuando consideraba que ya no los utilizaría más o simplemente cuando necesitaba hacer limpieza de papeles. Ana María Martín Gaite ha considerado pertinente añadir a los libros que ella publicó en vida, los que se han venido editando póstumamente a partir de 2000. Igualmente, forman parte de esta colección los libros de autores y de editoriales muy relacionados con Carmen Martín Gaite, posteriores a esta fecha y que Ana María fue recibiendo. El inventario (aún provisional) ha sido realizado por Patricia Caprile, bajo la supervisión del profesor José Teruel. Debido a la carencia de personal en la Fundación, si un investigador necesita consultar algún libro, debe ponerse en contacto por correo postal con doña Patricia Caprile (Finca familiar Martín Gaite, calle Vallejuelo, 3, 28413-El Boalo. Name of creator: Arkell, David, 1913-1997, journalist, translator, biographer and ‘literary sleuth’. Biographical History Journalist, translator, biographer and ‘literary sleuth’, David Arkell was born on 23 August 1913 in Weybridge, Surrey. His parents were both involved in the arts: his father, Reginald, was an author and his mother Elizabeth (née Evans) an actress. Some of his earliest childhood memories involved visits to theatres where his mother was playing, and he made his own acting début at the age of seven, playing Peter Cratchit in a Charles Dickens Birthday Matinée at the Lyric Theatre in February 1921, alongside his mother and Ellen Terry. He grew up in London, attending Colet Court and St Paul’s School, which he left in 1930. He began his journalistic career as a reporter on local newspapers in Newcastle upon Tyne during 1932-4, contributing dramatic reviews and articles on literary and dramatic themes. He moved on to become a columnist for various London papers and magazines, including the London Opinion and Men Only, for which he wrote light-hearted articles, many on the subject of France and the French. Arkell was fluent in French; his mother Elizabeth, whose father came from Jersey, was educated in Belgian convent schools and brought up bilingual; she was keen for her son also to be proficient in French. He put this to good use, when in the late 1930s he moved to Paris and became French correspondent for the Continental Daily Mail.

I hope to continue with 'Part II: The Middle Years: 1951-1969' and 'Part III: The Final Years: 1970-1989'. My apologies to all those who know how long I've been working on this project and have waited so patiently to see even partial results. The works Beckett published in his early years brought him neither financial nor critical success. His two major books (More Pricks Than Kicks and Murphy) sold so poorly they soon were out of print and hard to obtain. Even the limited editions of his poetry (Whoroscope and Echo's Bones) failed to find buyers; Beckett had small stacks of both years later, copies he gave away freely to friends and visiting scholars. Given his precarious financial situation, Beckett was forced to utilize his translation skills to earn money, taking on work for friends like Nancy Cunard (for Negro Anthology), for small magazines (particularly the postwar Transition), even for UNESCO and the French edition of Reader's Digest. These translations, when unsigned, pose a special problem for the bibliographer, since they are clearly part of the published record, yet particularly difficult to identify.

    revue littéraire mensuelle EMMANUEL BOVE ROGER MUNIER novembre-décembre 2003 Écrivain majeur de l’entre-deux-guerres, Emmanuel Bove a été redécouvert au cours des dernières décennies. On a pu voir en lui un Beckett sans métaphysique, un existentialiste sans idéologie, un précurseur du Nouveau Roman… Peut-être est-il d’abord un écrivain qui excelle à évoquer ces zones ténébreuses qui habitent l’homme, ces parages « entre chien et loup » qui nous préoccupent tant aujourd’hui. L’originalité de son écriture, qui avait jadis enthousiasmé Max Jacob et intéressé Rainer Maria Rilke au point qu’il voulut rencontrer l’auteur, n’a pas épuisé son pouvoir de fascination. Lire Bove, c’est plonger, à l’écoute d’une voix dont la tonalité et la cadence sont sans équivalent, dans la douleur des humbles, des victimes d’une société qui ne leur donne pas de place, mais c’est aussi rencontrer un univers qui, comme l’écrivait Jean Cassou, « s’impose à notre esprit et à notre affection, avec toute cette humanité qu’il porte en lui ». Lire Bove, c’est encore découvrir que « si le monde est une prison, il revient à chacun de nous de lutter pour sortir de son cachot, pour regagner de nouveau sa liberté ».     The Logic of Images Wim Wenders was born on 14 August 1945 in Dusseldorf. He went to film school in Munich after abandoning studies in medicine and philosophy. Between 1968 and 1971 he wrote film reviews, and in 1970 he made Summer in the City, his first full-length feature film. In 1979 Wenders went to live in America for a number of years. In 1982 he directed the first performance of the play Uber die Dorfer (Over the Villages) by Peter Handke, with whom he has also worked closely on his films. Wim Wenders lives as a director and film-producer in Berlin. He has received the title of Doctor h.c. from the Sorbonne in Paris. s For his films, Wenders has won the Deutsche Filmpreis in Gold for Wrong Movement, The American Friend and Wings of Desire, as well as the following international prizes: The Golden Lion at Venice (for The State of Things), the Palme d'or at Cannes (for Paris, Texas), the Best Director Prize at Cannes (for Wings of Desire) and the first European Award (Felix) for Best Director for Wings of Desire. In 1989 he served as President of the Jury of the Cannes Film Festival.
