Previous meetings • Gent v Genk is only the second all-Belgian tie in UEFA competition history; Mechelen defeated Anderlecht 3-0 on aggregate in the other, a 1988/89 European Cup Winners' Cup second round encounter. • Genk's record against Gent in Belgian league meetings is W27 D10 L19. The clubs recorded a win each in their two Belgian Cup fixtures. Form guide • Prior to their 1-0 first-leg victory against Tottenham Hotspur in the round of 32, Gent had scored at least twice in all five of their European home games this season. • Genk, meanwhile, have scored at least two goals in each of their last six continental away matches. • Gent made it to the UEFA Champions League round of 16 last season, losing to Wolfsburg. Their best UEFA Cup or UEFA Europa League campaign came in 1991/92, when they were eliminated by Ajax in the quarter-finals. • Genk have reached the last 16 of a major UEFA competition for the first time, winning their first springtime UEFA match in the round of 32 second leg against Astra Giurgiu. Links and trivia • The journey from Genk to Ghent is around 125km. • Former team-mates Daniel Miličević (Gent) & Sebastien Dewaest (Genk) – Charleroi, 2013–14 Kalifa Coulibaly (Gent) & Sebastien Dewaest (Genk) – Charleroi, 2014–15 Lovre Kalinić (Gent) & Tino-Sven Sušić (Genk) – Hajduk Split, 2012–16 • In addition, Gent's Miličević and Genk's Sušić are international team-mates with Bosnia and Herzegovina. • Genk are the only side to have made it from the second qualifying round of this season's competition to the round of 16; APOEL and København have had similarly long campaigns, having started out in the equivalent round of the UEFA Champions League. • Two of 12 Swedish players involved in the round of 16, Gent's Jacob Rinne and Emir Kujovic are dreaming of playing in the UEFA Europa League final in Stockholm. • Belgium, with three clubs, is the nation most heavily represented in the round of 16. Only Germany and Russia, with two apiece, also have more than one representative. The coaches • Hein Vanhaezebrouck guided Gent to the Belgian title in 2014/15 and steered them to the UEFA Champions League round of 16 last season. He established his reputation during two periods in the dugout of home-town club Kortrijk, for whom he had also played. • Vanhaezebrouck was also coach of Genk from July to November 2009. • Peter Maes took Genk to the round of 32 but was dismissed in late December after a disappointing run of league results. • Genk's new boss is Albert Stuivenberg. Once a Feyenoord trainee, he later ran the club's academy, and led the Netherlands to UEFA European Under-17 Championship successes in 2011 and 2012. He was Louis van Gaal's assistant at Manchester United. 3 KAA Gent - KRC Genk Thursday 9 March 2017 - 21.05CET (21.05 local time) Match press kit KAA Gent Stadium, Ghent Team facts KAA Gent Formed: 1864 Nickname: De Buffalos (The Buffalos) UEFA club competition honours (runners-up in brackets) • UEFA Intertoto Cup: (2006), (2007) Domestic honours (most recent triumph in brackets) League titles: 1 (2015) Belgian Cup: 3 (2010) Ten-year European record (UEFA Europa League/UEFA Cup unless indicated otherwise) 2015/16: UEFA Champions League round of 16 2014/15: did not take part in UEFA competition 2013/14: did not take part in UEFA competition 2012/13: third qualifying round 2011/12: did not take part in UEFA competition 2010/11: group stage (having transferred from UEFA Champions League third qualifying round) 2009/10: third qualifying round 2008/09: second qualifying round 2007/08: UEFA Intertoto Cup third round 2006/07: UEFA Intertoto Cup third round Records UEFA club competition • Biggest home win 5-0: Gent v Viitorul Constanța 28/07/16, UEFA Europa League third qualifying round first leg • Biggest away win 0-4: Cliftonville v Gent 14/07/07, UEFA Intertoto Cup second round second leg • Heaviest home defeat 1-7: Gent v Roma 06/08/09, UEFA Europa League third qualifying round second leg 0-6: Gent v Ajax 12/09/00, UEFA Cup first round first leg • Heaviest away defeat 7-1: Paris Saint-Germain v Gent 01/08/01, UEFA Intertoto Cup semi-final second leg UEFA Europa League/UEFA Cup • Biggest home win 5-0: Gent v Viitorul Constanța (see above) • Biggest away win 0-4: Shkëndija v Gent 25/08/16, play-off second leg • Biggest home defeat 1-7: Gent v Roma (see above) 0-6: Gent v Ajax (see above) • Biggest away defeat 5-0: Shakhtar Donetsk v Gent 20/10/16, group stage KRC Genk Formed: 1988 Nickname: Genkies UEFA club competition honours (runners-up in brackets) • none 4 KAA Gent - KRC Genk Thursday 9 March 2017 - 21.05CET (21.05 local time) Match press kit KAA Gent Stadium, Ghent Domestic honours (most recent triumph in brackets) League title: 3 (2011) Belgian Cup: 4 (2013) Ten-year record (UEFA Europa League unless indicated otherwise) 2015/16: did not take part in UEFA competition 2014/15: did not take part in UEFA competition 2013/14: round of 32 2012/13: round of 32 2011/12: UEFA Champions League group stage 2010/11: play-offs 2009/10: play-offs 2008/09: did not take part in UEFA competition 2007/08: UEFA Champions League second qualifying round 2006/07: did not take part in UEFA competition Records UEFA club competition • Biggest home win 5-0: Genk v Duisburg 01/10/98, UEFA Cup Winners' Cup first round second leg • Biggest away win 0-5: B36 Tórshavn v Genk 21/06/97, UEFA Intertoto Cup group stage • Heaviest home defeat 2-5: Genk v Werder Bremen 09/11/00, UEFA Cup second round second leg 0-3: Genk v Porto 19/08/10, UEFA Europa League play-offs first leg • Heaviest away defeat 7-0: Valencia v Genk 23/11/11, UEFA Champions League group stage UEFA Cup/UEFA Europa League • Biggest home win 5-2: Genk v FH Hafnarfjördur 29/08/13, play-off second leg 3-0: Genk v Videoton 20/09/12, group stage 3-0: Genk v Liepājas Metalurgs 25/08/05, second qualifying round second leg • Biggest away win 1-5: Inter Turku v Genk 29/07/10, third qualifying round first leg • Heaviest home defeat 2-5: Genk v Werder Bremen (see above) 0-3: Genk v Porto (see above) • Heaviest away defeat 4-1: Werder Bremen v Genk 24/10/00, second round first leg 5 KAA Gent - KRC Genk Thursday 9 March 2017 - 21.05CET (21.05 local time) Match press kit KAA Gent Stadium, Ghent Squad list KAA Gent Current season All-time QUAL UEL League UEL UEFA No. Player Nat.
