Match background • Greece won both of the nations' previous meetings – 5-1 away and 5-0 at home bookending their EURO '96 qualifying campaign. • In the first of those encounters, on 7 September 1994, Jan Allan Müller (88) belatedly struck back for Allan Simonsen's Faroe Islands side after Konstantinos Polychroniou's team had taken a 5-0 lead through Dimitris Saravakos (11), Panagiotis Tsalouchidis (17 and 86) and Alexios Alexandris (54 and 61). • There was to be no consolation goal in Heraklion on 15 November 1995, however, with Alexandris (59), Themistoklis Nikolaidis (62), Nikos Machlas (66), Giorgos Donis (76) and Vasilios Tsiartas (80) all on target. • Greece have won all six of the nations' meetings in UEFA men's age-limit competitions without conceding, averaging three goals a game at the other end. • The only previous encounter between the nations' clubs came in the 1997 UEFA Intertoto Cup group stage, Panahaiki FC recording a 4-2 home win against B36 Tórshavn. 3 Greece - Faroe Islands Friday 14 November 2014 - 20.45CET (21.45 local time) Match press kit Stadio Georgios Karaiskakis, Piraeus Squad list Greece Current season Overall Qual. Moved to Napoli, guiding the club to fourth place in the top flight in 1991/92 only to be sacked the following season. • Earned promotion to Serie A in his first season as Fiorentina coach, and won the Coppa Italia in 1996 before heading abroad. Won the Copa del Rey with Valencia in 1999 and then coached Atlético and Chelsea, whom he led to a second-place Premier League finish and the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League in 2003/04. • Replaced by José Mourinho, a brief, unsuccessful, spell back at Valencia – the highlight a UEFA Super Cup win against FC Porto – followed before Ranieri rediscovered his touch in saving Parma from relegation in 2007. That led to a stint at Juventus, who dismissed him in May 2009. Ranieri rejoined his first club, Roma, four months later, leading the club to second place in Serie A in his first season. However, he left in February 2011 only to return to coaching seven months later, signing a two-year contract with Inter. • Left Inter in March 2012 and then had two seasons with Monaco – guiding them back to Ligue 1 and then to second spot in the top flight – before succeeding Fernando Santos at the Greece helm after the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Lars Olsen Date of birth: 2 February 1961 Nationality: Danish Playing career: Glostrup IF, Køge BK, Brøndby IF (twice), Trabzonspor AŞ, RFC Seraing, FC Basel 1893 Coaching career: Randers FC, Odense BK, Faroe Islands • Enjoyed an illustrious playing career as a central defender, winning five Danish titles in a six-year spell at Brøndby between 1985 and 1991. • Allegedly drove from Turkey to Scandinavia when he learned of his country's belated call-up to EURO '92. His passion and leadership – he played every minute in Sweden – helped inspire Denmark to the most unlikely of triumphs. He ended his career with 84 caps, a record 69 as captain. • Learned his coaching craft with Brøndby, taking charge at various youth and reserve levels after finishing his playing days at the club in 1996, before accepting his first senior job with newly formed Randers in 2003.
