Greece and Finland unexpectedly find themselves battling to avoid finishing bottom of UEFA EURO 2016 qualifying Group F as they come together for a second time. These games include two friendlies played on neutral territory in Cyprus, both of which Greece won. Their record in nine UEFA European Championship meetings is W4 D3 L2 (W4 D0 L0 in Greece). 6 Greece - Finland Friday 4 September 2015 - 20.45CET (21.45 local time) Match press kit Stadio Georgios Karaiskakis, Piraeus Head coach Kostas Tsanas Date of birth: 22 August 1967 Nationality: Greek Playing career: Levadiakos FC, Kalamata FC, Athinaikos FC, Ethnikos Asteras FC Coaching career: Athinaikos FC, Ilysiakos FC, Greece Under-19 (assistant), Greece U21 (assistant), Greece U19, Greece U21, Greece (caretaker) • As a striker Tsanas spent the bulk of his playing career at Levadiakos, hanging up his boots in 2000. He promptly moved into coaching, starting in the youth sections of Athinaikos the following year before taking charge of the senior squad in 2005, moving on to Ilysiakos 12 months later. • Tsanas spent 2008/09 working as a scout for AEK Athens before joining the Hellenic Football Federation (EPO) as a coach. He was appointed assistant to Giorgos Georgiadis with the Under-19 team; a year later the duo took over the U21 squad. • In October 2011 Tsanas succeeded Leonidas Vokolos as U19 head coach after Vokolos had become Fernando Santos's assistant in the senior squad. He led the side to the 2012 UEFA European U19 Championship final, losing 1- 0 to Spain in Tallinn. • Tsanas then switched to the U21s, also getting the Greece team to the FIFA U-20 World Cup for the first time – guiding his side to the last 16 at the tournament in Turkey. • In August 2015 he took over the reins of the senior national squad after the departure of Sergio Markarián. Markku Kanerva Date of birth: 24 May 1964 Nationality: Finnish Playing career: HJK Helsinki (twice), IF Elfsborg, FinnPa Coaching career: HJK Helsinki (assistant), FC Viikingit, Finland Under-21, Finland (caretaker) • One of Finland's top players of the late 1980s and early 90s, Kanerva won five league titles and three domestic cups in a playing career that included short spells with Elfsborg in Sweden and FinnPa but was otherwise spent at HJK. • After earning 59 caps, Kanerva hung up his boots in autumn 1998 and quickly resurfaced as a coach. Following several seasons in club football he took charge of Finland's Under-21s in 2004, leading them to a first UEFA European Championship finals in 2009, when he was named the country's coach of the year in all sports. • Then appointed assistant coach to the Finland senior national team, he took the reins on a temporary basis following the sacking of Stuart Baxter in late 2010 before Mixu Paatelainen stepped into the void. • History repeated itself in summer 2016 when Kanerva was installed as interim head coach for the rest of the UEFA EURO 2016 qualifying campaign; Hans Backe will assume the helm at the start of 2016.

EURO finals: The UEFA European Championship was a four-team event in 1960, 1964, 1968, 1972 and 1976 (when the preliminary round and quarter-finals were considered part of qualifying).

From 1980 it was expanded to an eight-team finals and remained in that format in 1984, 1988 and 1992 until 1996, when the 16-team format was adopted. UEFA EURO 2016 was the first tournament to be played as a 24-team finals.

Records of inactive countries A number of UEFA associations have been affected by dissolution or splits of member associations. For statistical purposes, the records of these inactive countries have been allocated elsewhere: therefore, all Soviet Union matches are awarded to Russia; all West Germany – but not East Germany – matches are awarded to Germany; all Yugoslavia and Serbia & Montenegro matches are awarded to Serbia; all Czechoslovakia matches are allocated to both the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Abandoned/forfeited matches For statisical purposes, when a match has been started and then abandoned but later forfeited, the result on the pitch at the time of abandonment is counted. Matches that never started and were either cancelled or forfeited are not included in the overall statistics.
