ABSTRACT From the 1970s the emergence of religion and spirituality in psychoanalysis is a unique development, given its traditional pathologizing stance. This research examines how and why ‘sacred psychoanalysis’ came about and whether this represents a new analytic movement with definable features or a diffuse phenomena within psychoanalysis that parallels developments elsewhere. After identifying the research context, a discussion of definitions and qualitative reflexive methodology follows. An account of religious and spiritual engagement in psychoanalysis in the UK and the USA provides a narrative of key people and texts, with a focus on the theoretical foundations established by Winnicott and Bion. This leads to a detailed examination of the literary narratives of religious and spiritual engagement understood from: Christian; Natural; Maternal; Jewish; Buddhist; Hindu; Muslim; Mystical; and Intersubjective perspectives, synthesized into an interpretative framework of sacred psychoanalysis.

The first person that Lily meets is Maxine Mascarra, the villainess. Gargle employs Maxine to help him get rid of Trustworthy. They unknowingly attempt to “polish off” a wrong victim. Eventually they manage to dump Trustworthy into the river. When Maxine asks Gargle to pay her off for her help, he casts her aside.

An "Authentic Wholeness" Synthesis of Jungian and Existential Analysis Samuel Minier Wittenberg University Eclectic approaches to psychotherapy often lack cohesion due to the focus on technique and procedure rather than theory and wholeness of both the person and of the therapy. A synthesis of Jungian and existential therapies overcomes this trend by demonstrating how two theories may be meaningfully integrated The consolidation of the shared ideas among these theories reveals a notion of "authentic wholeness' that may be able to stand on its own as a therapeutic objective. Reviews of both analytical and existential psychology are given. Differences between the two are discussed, and possible reconciliation are offered. After noting common elements in these shared approaches to psychotherapy, a hypothetical therapy based in authentic wholeness is explored. This multiplicity speaks to a physical disconnection between places as well as to a mental state of disassociation. Through process I enable likewise contradiction and unification. I use materials to reconcile the opposite ends of a spectrum of transformation. Documentation allows me to extract and distill the essence of an action performed in my studio. I use the body in the same way I use materials. I watch its influence on a space, situation and condition and force it to enter interim stages somewhere between pleasure and pain. The resulting pieces capture a metaphysical quest into metamorphic zones that show our interconnectivity to all reality, visible and invisible. The Body 3 In my practice moments of anxiety, discomfort, fear and risk have found a central place. While frightening, they have also been pleasurable. Control through restraint and direction seems to be an allowance for unrestricted and fearless pleasure. In “The Well” (fall 2015, fig. 1) a body is slowly submerging into an undefined depth of water. While submerged in water, the body becomes the only known, the only orientation and place.

    Concentric: Literary and Cultural Studies 38.1 March 2012: 249-275 The Lily Pool, the Mirrors, and the Outsiders: Envisioning Home and England in Virginia Woolf’s Between the Acts Ching-fang Tseng Department of English National Taiwan Normal University, Taiwan Abstract Written against the historical context of the threats of fascism and World War II, Between the Acts’s portrayal of rural England that highlights its traditional way of life, the everlasting rural landscape, and the pageant then in vogue seemingly echoes the prevailing national imagination during the war-crisis years. Rather than replicating the nostalgic ruralist vision of England on the verge of war, the novel not only furthers Woolf’s critique of the dictators in England in Three Guineas, but also enacts the essay’s visionary idea of the “Outsiders’ Society” in the setting of the English country. A prominent figure in Between the Acts is the cultivated observer in rural England, who is there to apprehend landscape as well as the universal evolutionary order. Encapsulating the ocularized social power of the ruling landowning class, he embodies Englishness and “civilization” as the apex of the developmental progress of humankind. Woolf responds to such Englishness by positing episodes in the novel involving La Trobe’s village pageant. The pageant invokes an “Outsiders’ Society” composed of heterogeneous, anonymous private spectators in resistance to the hegemonic perception of the gentry-audience, thus making the latter think home landscape, “Ourselves,” and civilization in a different light. At the same time, the “Outsiders’ Society” is also enacted through Between the Acts’s multi-layered, open-ended, and self-reflexive form, which disallows closure and totality of meaning and predominance of the authorial vision.

    Individuation as Spiritual Process: Jung’s Archetypal Psychology and the Development of Teachers Kathleen Kesson See the published version in the journal: ENCOUNTER: EDUCATION FOR MEANING AND SOCIAL JUSTICE Winter 2003, 16 (4). “…The spirit has its homeland, which is the realm of the meaning of things… -Saint Exupéry The Wisdom of the Sands In the mid-1970s, curriculum theorist James Macdonald, in his discussion of various ideologies of education, proposed a category that he called the “transcendental developmental ideology.” This perspective would correct what he thought was the limiting, materialist focus of the radical or political view of education, which he considered a “hierarchical historical view that has outlived its usefulness both in terms of the emerging structure of the environment and of the psyches of people today” (Macdonald 1995, 73). The transcendental developmental ideology would embrace progressive and radical social values, according to Macdonald, but would be rooted in a deep spiritual awareness. Drawing upon the work of M.C. Richards (1989), he used the term “centering” to signify this form of consciousness. Macdonald termed his methodology of development a “dual dialectic,” a praxis involving reflective transaction between the individual ego and the inward subjective depths of the self, as well as between the ego and the outer objective structures of the environment. This method grew out of his critique of existing developmental theories (see Kohlberg and Mayer, 1972), which he thought neglected one or another aspect of this praxis, thus failing to take into account the full dimension of human “being.” Macdonald was influenced by the work of C.G.

A careful study of literary works represents a way to add experience about life and also to gain knowledge about human life with all of their problems. The two novels being discusses in this article are Oscar Wilde‟s The Picture of Dorian Grayand Robert Louis Stevenson‟s Dr. Jekyll and Mr.Hyde.This article will be analyzed by using Carl Gustav Jung‟s archetypes theory in order to make a comparative study through both of those novels. Thus, this study concerns to Jung‟s archetypes of persona and shadow. The method of the research is descriptive text analysis. At the same time, the article writer also used comparative study. It was due to the aims of this study, which was to compare two literary works of the same country.The results of this study show the different achievements of persona and shadow through the representation of the characters of Dorian Gray in The Picture of Dorian Gray and Dr. Henry Jekyll in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.     First Place Flash Fiction, Grades 7-8 Lily Wissler The Ten O’clock News Jane Matthers felt her traitorous lips lift into a smile, though she did not let it drop right away. Swishing around the remainder of the drink in front of her, Jane was leaning on her elbows, balancing on the edge of her bar stool. She was antsy for something, though she would never admit to what it was. That was a secret she’d take with her to the grave. If the undisclosed were an object, she would carry it between her painstakingly sanitized hands and clutch it in front of her carefully chosen cardigan. Jane had been a cautious child. Picking and pulling apart her every movement. Her words had always been so premeditated that she often found herself saying things that belonged to future conversations. The quality showed now as she shushed her hiccupy-giggles with an ease that had been practiced for years. Jane recounted the evening’s events. The screams played over in her head like her own personal soundtrack. She had felt comfort in the stabbing and slashing. There was neatness to it like a freshly printed dictionary. Jane wasn’t as careful to withhold her giggles this time. She felt wise. She had taken care of everything, tied every loose end. What she hadn’t accounted for was the mess. Jane had to burn the cashmere sweater, but it was worth it. After the first spike of adrenaline, she knew it was worth it. With restless limbs, and soaring spirits, Jane watched the TVs before her.
