Pat’s Run 2021, presented by TEKsystems, is the signature fundraiser for the Pat Tillman Foundation’s Tillman Scholars program.

We may not be able to come together this year to take to the streets of Tempe in 2021, but we’re still one community focused on one mission: uniting and empowering remarkable service members, veterans and military spouses to carry on Pat Tillman’s legacy of scholarship, service, humble leadership and impact.

We’re so happy that you’re joining our virtual event on April 24, 2021 (although you can participate anytime between April 23 and April 25 for maximum flexibility).

Pat’s story on the football field and the Army is well-known, but it is his principles and service that are his true legacy. The 2021 Pat’s Run race tee is a technical shirt inspired by ’s Desert Storm football uniforms, with a matching medal and bib showcasing this year’s theme, “Give ‘Em Hell.” Pat famously quoted that line from the ASU fi ght song to his teammates shortly before they beat Nebraska 19-0 in 1996, and we fi nd encouragement in it now: however impossible things seem, the tenacious fi ght through it and lead those around them to the other side.

T-shirts, medals and bibs began shipping in late March. If you registered before April 1, and you haven’t received your materials by race day, please check the tracking informati on sent to you via email. If you registered aft er April 1, we can’t guarantee that you’ll receive your items before race day.

WHO WE ARE ABOUT THE TILLMAN SCHOLARS In 2002, inspired by the Sept. 11 attacks, Pat The Pat Tillman Foundati on selects remarkable Tillman turned down a $3 million NFL contract service members, veterans and military spouses as from the to serve in the U.S. they begin their next chapter as public and private Army. The Pat Tillman Foundati on has invested more than $20 million in academic support since 2008, and has named nearly 700 Tillman Scholars at more than 166 academic insti tuti ons nati onwide.

Stay up to date at raceday.patsrun.com MEET SOME OF OUR SCHOLARS 2011 U.S. ARMY UNIVERSITY OF ARKANSAS M.A., POLITICAL SCIENCE THOMAS BISHOP In Litt le Rock, on his 17th birthday, Thomas joined the U.S. Army as a combat engineer. In 2005, he joined the ROTC program at the University of Arkansas and aft er graduati ng as a disti nguished military graduate, he branched engineer in the Army Reserves. In 2009 aft er graduati ng engineer basic leadership course, Thomas returned to the University of Arkansas to complete his master’s degree in politi cal science; at the end of his fi rst semester his unit received orders for mobilizati on to Afghanistan.

As platoon leader, Thomas led and conducted over 150 missions, including joint operati ons with Marines, Briti sh and Afghan forces in Kandahar and Helmand provinces. His platoon had multi ple engagements with enemy forces to include IED clearances, strikes and ground force. For his eff orts, Thomas was awarded a Bronze Star and Combat Acti on Badge, among other honors in Afghanistan.

He then returned to the University of Arkansas to complete his M.A., later working as an associate research director for Media Matt ers for America, before returning to the Army as a project engineer with missions in the Netherlands, Germany, Korea and Central America. He also worked as an operati ons offi cer for USACE during Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria. Recently, Thomas was granted admission into Harvard’s Kennedy School to pursue an MPA and conti nue his service as a military strategist. 2017 U.S. MARINE CORPS WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY MASTER OF MEDICAL SCIENCE CANDICE CREECY Candice grew up in a military family where a deep sense of service was portrayed daily by her father, an Air Force aircraft technician. Candice accepted a commission in the U.S. Marine Corps in 2005, earned her aviati on “Wings of Gold” in 2008, and was designated a F/A-18 Weapon Systems Offi cer in 2010. In 2013, she founded Rise Above Seven Summits to raise awareness and support for the communiti es around the seven highest mountains on each of the seven conti nents.

Seeing the need for quality healthcare in remote and rural setti ngs, Candice departed the acti ve duty Marine Corps to att ain a masters of medical science in physician assistant studies from Wake Forest School of Medicine. Recently, Candice completed the Mayo Clinic Emergency Medicine NP/PA Fellowship and will be beginning her MBA at the MIT Sloan School of Management with a biotechnology focus to conti nue fi nding novel methods to improve rural healthcare. Candice conti nues to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves as a Brigade Platoon Commander for 6th Air Naval Gunfi re Liaison Company. 2017 U.S. ARMY THE GEORGE WASHINGTON UNIVERSITY DOCTOR OF NURSING PRACTICE LEILANI ATTILO Leilani served in the military to show grati tude for the country and people who welcomed and supported her parents, who emigrated from the Philippines. As an Army Nurse Corps offi cer, Leilani was a criti cal care nurse and deployed to and Afghanistan.

Aft er leaving the military, Leilani became a public health nurse and found her passion working with underserved communiti es on drug policy, successfully lobbying for one of the most comprehensive drug overdose preventi on laws and organizing one of the largest naloxone distributi on programs in the country. But Leilani felt a call back to the clinical world when she recognized the sti gma people who use drugs face in healthcare.

Leilani graduated from The George Washington University’s Family Nurse Practi ti oner program. Leilani is now a family nurse practi ti oner who provides primary care and gender affi rming care at a federally qualifi ed health center in Tacoma, Washington.

2020 U.S. ARMY UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA MBA KEVIN (& ELLIE) BUBOLZ Driven to serve a greater purpose in life, Kevin enrolled in the ROTC and became an Army aviati on offi cer. During his military career, he developed a passion for mentoring and developing others, pursuing this calling by becoming an instructor pilot and commanding the Army’s only Chinook fl ight school.

During a deployment, Kevin’s unit was accompanied by a service dog that brought comfort to soldiers, reduced loneliness and even fl ew in his helicopter wearing specialized hearing protecti on. This experience inspired Kevin to share the benefi ts of animal-assisted therapy to others, training his golden retriever, Ellie, as a therapy dog to volunteer in nursing homes, schools and hospitals.
