CHRISTMAS EDITION 2014 Issue 15 President: Derek Lynch 0438 826 251 Vice President: Michael Agostino 0431 745 820 Secretary: Tracy Philips 8349 9998 [email protected] Treasurer: Kim Pederson 0401 369 002 Public Officer: Michael Agostino 0431 745 820 WEB: www.cadillacclubsa.webs.com 1. From the President Hi all, BUSY, BUSY, BUSY and on top of everything Christmas is nearly here – AGAIN!! Except for the occasional 37◦C we are having great spring weather in S.A. – terrific for cruising in the Cadi. Our Events are now set for the next year with our Christmas Cruise all set to go for a picnic at Marble Hill for a BBQ lunch and then a trip to the orchard to pick cherries at Ashton on November 30th, and then a coffee and cars on December 28th. This is a move to introduce more social events than just our cruises. Another idea is to go for a cruise with another car club, for example the Triumph sports car club on a trip up the freeway. Should be interesting big Americana and small British all mixed on the freeway. 7 Cadillacs went to the Gumeracha “Show and Shine” on Sunday the 9th November (Remembrance Sunday). With a total of approximately 220 cars it was very interesting to see so many cars of different makes in such great condition. Our Committee met on Sunday 16th November at 10.30am at Sue and Dave Parkers house at North Gawler with one of the topics to start plan- ning for our turn for the National Meet in 2018 – it seems a long way away but everybody agreed – it will soon be here. Our website is in the process of being improved by Tracy Phillips – Club Secretary and Webmaster And plans were also discussed for the party to celebrate our clubs 25th Anniversary in 2016. At long last we have completed a spreadsheet of member’s cars and registration numbers so both ourselves and Robyn and Terry can identify whose car it is from a photograph and our Committee booklet has been upgraded to cater for some new faces such as Michael Agostino ( Vice President ) and Geoff Asher ( Events Officer ). Another really good Cadillac year with more new members and great and interesting events. So to all members, have a great Christmas and all the best for 2015. Regards Derek 2. From the Secretary Hello fellow members. What a busy month November has been. We started with showing off some great cars at the Gumeracha Show & Shine followed by a most relaxing committee meeting with wonderful hosts the Sunday after. Then we saw a turnout of caddies at Virgara Winery for some fresh air and dancing (for those inclined) and a little wine for some. Finally the end of the month saw Christmas really begin for the cars and their owners of course with a delightful spread organised by the awesome Nick. Cherry picking, maybe I’m a little biased towards the idea but what a great way to start off the festive season. Take a breath and November is done. But, there is more even now as we head into December with members still cruising for the Cadillac cause heading up to Uraidla. What an enjoyable year it has been, we start out with a good rollout in February for All American Day and end with a great bunch for Christ- mas breakup. I do encourage all members during 2015 to see if they can find an event they can get to. As Secretary there are so many of you I have not met. Our last committee meeting was held on the 16th November. There were a few non committee members in attendance and this was great to see. Remember you are all welcome to attend as it is a good way to see your committee in action. Our meetings are the relaxed type with nothing too serious and once the business side is done the important story telling begins with delightful treats to fill our tummies. Anything you would like to have discussed at these meeting please let myself know or another committee member and they can table the issue on your behalf. Planning for the 2018 National Event which SA has the great pleasure of hosting is in its infancy. We will be brainstorming next year so if you have ideas then please contact me. The club website www.cadillacclubsa.webs.com is undergoing some modifications, with the events page being updated to reflect the remain- der of 2014 and the 2015 events. Hopefully as you visit over the next months you will see some changes. Enjoy the festive season, it can get a little overwhelming at times so remember to take a little time out for yourself. Be safe, not sure if I will be making “Coffee and Cars” over summer, so if not I will see you at All American Day. Merry Christmas, Tracy – Secretary For 2015 the proposed General Committee Meeting Dates are: February 8th, May 17th, August 9th and November 15th (depending on the Virgara Winery event date). These dates will be added to our website events page shortly. Page 2 Bulletin of the National Cadillac Club of Australia South Australian Region 3. GUMERACHA SHOW AND SHINE A worthy cause to support the Edinburgh Lions Club with proceeds and gifts presented to Defence Special Needs Support Group for Children, the Repat Foundation & the Smith Family brought out a fine vehicle display showing some of what south Australia has to offer. We met at Tea Tree Plaza @ 9 am for a 9.30 am departure with the following members: Bill Phillips – 1957 Series 62 Coupe Geoff Asher – 1976 Eldorado Convertible David Trembath – 1961 Deville Coupe Graham Smith – 1950 Series 62 Sedan Graham Jenkinson – 1969 Eldorado Derek Lynch – 1976 Coupe Deville De elegance What a magnificent day for a cruise, sunny with a top of 23◦C and light breezes to soften the sun’s warmth. Arriving at 10 am to a well organised entry we met Clyde Paech – a past member from our early days as a club, in his 1956 Limo with a special rear extension to take the spare wheel. (Clyde says to say Hi to the “older” members) We paid our $10 entrance fee (some had pre-paid) and gave our children’s Christmas presents and were directed to a spot between the Holden Sandman’s (Ah! The good ole youthful days) and some truly incredible hot rods – some are really engineering masterpieces. A full and entertaining schedule followed: 2014 Gumeracha Show & Shine Programme TIME WHO 7.00am-8.00am food and vendors set up and preparation 8.00am-9.30am car entrants start to enter oval 10.00am DJ with background music starts 10.25am Car cut off time, Oval traffic closed 10.30am public gates open and sponsors announced over microphone 10.55am memorial service with DJ introducing both Chaplains & Bugler 11.15am DJ & 1st fashion parade & health screening announcement 11.30am DJ & 1st rock & roll dance demo & health screening announcement 12.00pm DJ & kids rocker cover races 12.30pm DJ &kite lolly drop for kids 1.00pm DJ & Father Christmas arrives and gives out fruit bars to the kids 1.30pm DJ &2nd fashion parade & health sreening announcement 2.00pm DJ & 2nd rock and roll dance demo & health screening announcement 3.00pm DJ to announce close of raffle sales & close of health screening 3.30pm DJ to announce raffle and trophies to be presented at 4pm 4.00pm DJ, David Sabine, Graham Goodings and Graham Stewart to present trophies 4.01pm Close of Show and Shine With a minutes silence at 11am – heralded by the Bugler and the Ode to fallen service personnel. Then the engines started and we were back to the day’s events. Food stalls were kept busy but some of the stalls selling merchandise appeared to be quiet. It’s amazing how many cars are in impeccable condition and of course these shows have many different makes. Of the 7 Cadillacs in a row Bill Phillips was of the most interest. Well prepared, in shining condition and with a feature Air Horn System adjacent the engine, a boot full of Elvis paraphernalia and a table with La Cads and photos of various cars and a board with further details of his car was a credit to him – and as I said it showed, as they glanced at our cars and surrounded his – well done Bill. However it must be said that Geoff Asher’s car with the hood down impressed everybody. Issue 15 Page 3 This is the first time Margaret and I have participated in a Show that was not confined to one make of vehicle and something we will definitely be doing more of in the future. However, with approximately 110 Cadillacs in our club it was perhaps a little disappointing to only have 6 plus a visitor at this one. So back on to my band wagon – if you want a relaxing day out – participate in events. Thanks to Tracy for organising this one, it was a very enjoyable and interesting day. Although my pommie skin felt it the next the day. It took 4-5 tours to see the approx 225 cars. There were some great Mustangs a superb AC Cobra (both my dream cars) and the perennial Fords, Holden’s and Chryslers – must admit I did enjoy telling them about my 500 cu.ins/8.2 litre engine!! Regards, Derek Father Christmas arrives Ready to go on the Gumeracha Graham Smith’s 1950 series 62 sedan Bill Phillips Boot Show & Shine.
