Should you like to hold one of the collection boxes in your home, please contact Alison Atkinson. It is usually that time of year to collect the Children’s Society boxes. However, because of the Pandemic Alison thinks it would be safer to leave this till much later in the year. Alison will be in touch again when she feels it is safe to collect the boxes. Many thanks for having a box in your home and making donations to the society. Your donations are vital in ensuring more vulnerable children are helped in many ways. ALL THINGS TWIDDLE Some of you may remember that in a previous Village Life I asked for wool and keys and bits and bobs to make twiddle muffs. 'Twiddle muffs' are a knitted or crocheted band with items attached that patients living with the advanced stages of dementia can twiddle in their hands during their hospital stay. They help provide stimulation whilst on the wards and are valuable to patients. My mum who is 89 knits and crochets these along with twiddle blankets for her local hospital and they are very much welcome on the dementia ward. I would like to say a really big thank you to all of you who have left wool or other bits and pieces in the churches for this purpose. I have today been to Pickhill to pick up an enormous bag of wood so I would like to say a special thank you to that person. I have not been able to get your donations because of the pandemic so I am sorry if this thank you seems a little delayed. If anyone is able to donate wool or keys or other bits to go on a twiddle muff please feel free to give me a call and I can come and collect. Thanks again – Elaine McDonald 07732930772 RINGING THE CHANGES Calling all budding bell ringers, or those that have been bell ringers and want to take it up again Ever wondered how the bells in the church ring? Ever thought of having a try? Why not come along and see what it is all about? Bell ringing or campanology is a really excellent skill and a good way of meeting new people. After the lockdown the bell ringers are starting to meet up again to practice on a MONDAY evening (used to be Thursday from 7.30 pm) from 9 August 2021. The bell ringers are a friendly and welcoming bunch and meet at St Michael’s Kirklington. Just come along and give us a try and see if it is something you might be interested in. All ages from 11 years upwards are welcome. There is no upper age limit. IMPROVE YOUR PRAYER LIFE Anyone wanting to improve their prayer life may find Pete Grieg’s book, How to Pray helpful. Pete Greig is the bewildered founder of the 24-7 Prayer movement, Senior Pastor of Emmaus Rd church, and a best-selling author. His memoir ‘Dirty Glory’ won UK Christian Book of the year, 2017, and his treatment of unanswered prayer, ‘God on Mute’, has been described as ‘a Christian classic’ by the Archbishop of Canterbury.

  • CD9 62 Email to Council Regarding Melmerby and Middleton Quernhow Parish Council Representations
From:Tony Collins <[email protected]> Sent:08 June 2020 14:18 To:Mike Parkes Cc:[email protected] Subject:Ripon MSA - 18/02713/EIAMAJ Afternoon Mike, I refer to the representations of Melmerby & Middleton Quernhow Parish Council 1 February 2020. The Parish Council has raised six matters which I comment upon as follows: 1.The relevant authorities have confirmed the proposed development is acceptable in respect of waste water; 2.The underground fuel tanks are protected against any leaks and will comply with the relevant legislation; 3.As you are Aware competition is not a planning matter. Leeming Bar has a lawfully implemented planning permission for an MSA but will continue to operate as a roadside service area. There is demand for a new MSA based on safety and welfare of motorway users. There is a significant gap in MSA provision between Wetherby and Scotch Corner; 4.Highways England and North Yorkshire Highway Authority have both confirmed the access to the MSA is acceptable; 5.Historically the Planning Inspector who conducted the 2012 Public Inquiry which considered all the MSA proposals on the A1(M) at that time recommended “Baldersby Gate” ie Ripon MSA for approval. The Secretary of State choose Leeming Bar as it already existed. Circular 02/2013 now has changed the regulations on the provision of more MSAs to serve the safety and welfare needs of motorists. The site for Ripon MSA is the best site for an MSA on this section of the A1(M); 6.As you will be aware MSAs are not destinations in their own right and serve only the passing traffic on the motorway for safety and welfare purposes.
