Indoor Box

Number of Participants

1. A maximum of 6 players on the field (including the wicket keeper). 6 Players on each side, two (2) substitute allowed. 2. Both captains must exchange their final team roster sheets of eligible substitutions at the time of the toss to the scoring table. 3. The fielding side cannot start with less than 5 players at any given moment.

Equipment

1. Athletic attire is mandatory (Sneakers ONLY, shorts or sweatpants acceptable) as mandated by the Intramural Handbook.

Duration of the Game

1. Each game has a time limit of 85 minutes. There will be two innings of 25 minutes (running time) and an inning’s break will be 5 minutes.

Start of Play

1. A fair coin toss will give the winning captain a choice to either Bat or field first.

Game Rules

Batting rules:

1. A participating players MUST be allowed to play at least 4 balls in an inning. a. This responsibility lies completely with the batting team. If the batting side is in violation of this rule, it is a penalty of fifteen (15) runs. 2. Batters must change ends at the completion of each over. 3. No batter may bat more than once in a game. 4. The Non Striker has to stand completely inside the STUMP BOX.

Indoor Box Cricket

Fielding rules:

1. Fielding team must wear similar colors, or will be provided with standard intramural pinnies. 2. A fielder may field the ball with any part of his person. 3. A fielder may NOT wear any additional equipment, gloves, or external leg guards while in the field. Any protection for the hand or fingers may be worn only with the consent and approval of the intramural staff/assigned umpires. 4. While the ball is in play, a player may not encroach on the pitch until the ball has made contact with the striker’s bat or person, or has passed the striker’s bat. If this does indeed occur, the play will be considered a No Ball. 5. Any significant movement by any fielder after the ball is bowled, but before the ball reaches the striker, is an infraction. Should this occur, the play is considered a dead ball, and a run is awarded to the batting team. Significant movement is defined as: a. Close fielders who make any sudden movements other than adjustments to stance or position. b. Outfielders in the sight line of the batter must not make any sudden movements in field position other than adjustments to stance or position. 6. An out cannot be made by catching a ball off the wall.

Bowling Rules:

1. 12 overs each side. 2. Min of 1 over per player. 3. Max of 2 overs per players. 4. Ball has to pitch ahead of the Centre line otherwise it will be considered as NO BALL. 5. No backhand swing allowed. 6. “NO BALLS” and “WIDE” calls will not be counted as an official play and 1 run will be scored by the opponent team. 7. Byes and Leg Byes are allowed. 8. Wicket keepers are allowed to change at any time. 9. Ball going directly outside the Box without interference by opponent team will be considered as OUT.

Scoring Rules:

1. One bounce outside the BOUNDRY AREA will be scored 6 Runs. 2. Ball going outside the BOUNDRY AREA will be scored 4 Runs. 3. Ball going outside the 2D AREA will be scored 2 Runs. 4. Ball going outside the 1D AREA will be scored 1 Run. 5. In case of Tie, Super Over will be played. 6. Run rate average will decide tie breakers in league play.

Dismissal/Outs Rules:

1. Bowled 2. Caught straight from the bat 3. Run out 4. Stumped by the wicket keeper 5. Intentionally interfering with a fielder 6. Intentionally interfering with the ball while in play

Substitutions

1. Three substitutions will be allowed per team with prior consent of the umpires and the opposing team’s captain.

Lateness Rule

1. As per NYU Intramural rules and policy, if your team cannot field the minimum five (5) players five minutes past the designated game time, the contest will be deemed a forfeit.

Sportsmanship

1. All Intramural rules, policies, guidelines, and sportsmanship are to be followed as stated in the New York University Intramurals Handbook. 2. All acts of unsportsmanlike conduct determine by intramural staff, assigned umpires, facility supervisors, or any NYU Athletic Department member is grounds for immediate , contest forfeit, or possible removal from league.

ALL UMPIRE DECISIONS ARE FINAL

The NYU Intramural Department reserves the right to override any of these rules should the situation call for it.
