The club invited rinks from Peeblesshire Province and Biggar for lunch before the games. Peebles Curling Club were the overall winners with West Linton runners up. The Broughton members socialised with their fellow curlers before returning to Broughton to carry on the celebrations with a meal and after dinner celebrations. There was a speech about club founder The Reverend Hamilton Paul, and the history of our club. A good day was had by all. Report by Grace Masterton, Vice President ABERDEEN CLUB BONSPIEL The club bonspiel took place on Saturday 28th November. This was a full entry, which is great, we had 12 teams of all ages and abilities, competing for the winners spot on the day. Petroleum (pictured) came out winners overall, with Meldrum & Daviot coming second - great to see so many Juniors being involved and even going home with Christmas presents for their parents! The final instalment of this club bonpspiel format concludes 13th February when clubs can still win the overall prize with the combined score of two of their best scores from the three spiels. -

The new year brings hope and enthusiasm as the days start getting longer and the curling season hots up with more club games to be played in ice rinks up and down the country. Our national titles continue to be contested for as teams seek to become this seasons Scottish Champions at all levels. Tickets for the finals of our blue riband event, the Scottish Championships, in Perth, on 16 February 2019 can be bought via Eventbrite here. From the end of January till mid-June, an exhibition titled “CURLING: made in Scotland” opens in the temporary exhibition space inside the Scottish Football Museum at Hampden Stadium on the south side of Glasgow. -

Annual General Meeting of Edinburgh Curling Club
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OF EDINBURGH CURLING CLUB LIMITED held at 7.30 pm on 8th Sept 2016 1. Welcome President Jim Ramsay opened the meeting and on behalf of the Board, welcomed Honorary Members and all members of the Club present, thanking them for attending and asked anyone who had not yet signed in to do so. He asked those with mobile phones to switch them of or turn them to silent. He asked that anyone wishing to speak to stand and clearly announce their name and Club before starting to speak. He indicated that there would be a slight change in the order of the agenda in that items 5 & 6 would swap and this would help the continuity of the meeting. He then moved to the formal part of the evening and asked the Secretary to read the names of members who sadly were no longer with us. Penicuik Curling Club was constituted on 20 January 1815. The club was highly influential in the early development of the sport. Three of its members, most noteworthy Dr John Renton, were instrumental in forming the Grand Caledonian Curling Club, the forerunner of the Royal Report and photo courtesy of Jim Cowper Caledonian Curling Club, in 1838. On 15th January 1847 the club hosted the first Grand Match, on the High Pond in Penicuik Estate, probably the first time any sport, anywhere, had organised a national competition. Over invited at the club’s expense to the Bicentenary Bonspiel Dinner at 300 curlers from all over Scotland braved winter conditions to travel to the Edinburgh Capital Hotel for a night of celebration; 150 curlers Penicuik for this historic event, the forerunner of the TV spectaculars now doing other things! Muirhead and Murdoch fly the flag for Scotland ve Muirhead and David Murdoch Ewon the right to represent Scotland at the Le Gruyere European Curling Championships by winning the Europ- ean Playoffs that were held at Dewars Centre, Perth, from 27-30 October. Eve Muirhead and her team of Anna Sloan, Vicki Adams and Claire Hamilton went through the double round-robin stages of the playoff with a 6-0 record, while Hannah Fleming, Sarah Reid and Jackie Lockhart all finished on 2-4 records. Fleming sat out the first tie- breaker while Lockhart and Reid played off in a game which went to an extra end before Team Reid progressed to the next tie-breaker. The Reid side went from strength to strength in the second tie-breaker, with a convincing 8-3 win which put them into the best-of-three final against the Muirhead side. Team Reid, skipped by Kerry Barr (in the absence of Sarah Reid), with Lorna Vevers, Rachael Simms and Barbara McPake, could not stop the dominance of the Muirhead side in the In the first game in the final round of final games.
