CONCERT th SEASON 372019-2020 YOSHIKAZU FUKUMURA MUSIC DIRECTOR AND PRINCIPAL CONDUCTOR PHILIPPINE PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA The Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO) is the country’s leading orchestra in the Asia-Pacific region. It was established on May 15, 1973 as the CCP Philharmonic Orchestra intended to perform at the center as one of its main resident performing groups and eventually collaborate with renowned Filipino and foreign artists either as soloists or conductors. The PPO’s first Music Director is Prof. Luis Valencia with Julian Quirit as concertmaster. It was later on regrouped through the efforts of former First Lady Mrs. Imelda R. Marcos and Maestro Oscar C. Yatco and performed with notable filipino and foreign conductors such as; Helen Quach, Sr. Maria Rosalina Abejo, RVM, Yoshinao Osawa, Mendi Rodan, Francisco Feliciano, Basilio Manalo, Rudolf Gerstenbauer, Piero Gamba, Enrique Batis, Sebastian Bereau, Nicholas Koch, Jae Joon Lee, James Judd and Olivier Ochanine. It has also worked with famous Filipino and foreign soloists like; Van Cliburn, Wilma Vernocchi, Albert Lysy, Peter Schmalfuss, Daniel Adni, Peter Rosel, Werner Taube, Renata Tebaldi, Judith Engel, Anothy Camden, Rony Rogoff, David Benoit, Odin Rathnam, Javier Bonet, Sergio Esmilla, Jr., Aurelio Estanislao, Cecile Licad, Raul Sunico and Lea Salonga. International performances by the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra includes concerts in; Gijon, Madrid, Burgos, Santiago de Compostela, Klagenfurt, Prague (2001), Tokyo (2002), Bangkok (2004), Shanghai (2010), Beijing(2011), Carnegie Hall, New York City (2016). And just recently during the Asia Orchestra Week held in Kuji and Tokyo in 2018.
