Reporting Period: 13 February to 19 February 2014 Donor: OFDA/USAID Submission Date: 19 February 2014 Incidents Update: During the reporting period, one new natural disaster incidents were reported.

South Region (Update): As per the initial information obtained from ANDMA on 6 February, 205 families were reportedly affected and several houses were damaged as a result of heavy rainfall in four villages (Chahel Ghazi, Mazreha, Khogyani, Mohammad Moseh Kalay) of . A joint assessment team consisted of IOM, WFP, HAPA, WHO, UNCHR and ANDMA carried out rapid assessment in Mohammad Kandahar, Maywand district, a house destroyed by heavy rainfall, 13 February, IOM Moseh Kalay, Hotal and Aziz Abad villages of Maywand district on 13 February. 91 families were identified in need of NFIs, emergency shelter, and hygiene kits. IOM will provide family revitalization kits and tarpaulins while IRC committed to provide winter warm clothing, shelter construction tools and hygiene kits on 20 February.

North Region:

Balkh Province: As per the initial report obtained from ANDMA, as a result of recent heavy snowfall and extreme cold weather, 192 families were reportedly affected in the following district.

1. Charkent Disrtict: 20 families reportedly affected in two villages (Nayeb Salar and Abtaal) and one water reservoir destroyed in Nayeb Salar villages due to heavy snowfall.

2. Sholgara District: 120 families reportedly affected in Ahoodara village due to heavy snowfall and extreme cold weather.

3. Charbolak District: 22 families reportedly affected in different villages, the security in the area is volatile, and thus ANDMA requested ARCSs volunteers to assess the affected families and report back to ANDMA and other humanitarian actors. A joint assessment team comprised of IOM, SC, CARE, NRC and ANDMA has initiated a joint assessment in two districts Charkent and Sholgara on 20 February. IOM will coordinate the response once the needs are identified.

Faryab Province (Update): On 10 th February 204, due to the water overflow in of the canal in Nadir abad village of Pashton , seven families were reportedly affected. IOM together with ARCS and ANDMA conducted joint assessment on 13 th February. Six families were identified in need of NFIs, emergency shelter and food items. IOM will provide family revitalization and emergency shelter kits while need for food has been referred to ANDMA.
