Western Norway is the area which had the greatest emigration to the United States. The County of Rogaland, formerly named Stavanger, lies at Norway’s southwestern tip, with the North Sea washing its fjords, beaches and islands. The name Rogaland means “the land of the Ryger,” an old Germanic tribe. The Ryger tribe is believed to have settled there 2,000 years ago. The meaning of the tribal name is uncertain. Rogaland was called Rygiafylke in the Viking age. The earliest known members of the Anason family came from a region of Rogaland that has since become part of Vest-Agder County.

This chapter presents this new Internet-accessible scientific tool (www.digmap.eu/), evaluates its possibili- ties and flaws, and makes suggestions for the future, specifically in reaction to (or better, in line with) Anthony Grafton's critical observations on digital libraries. The introductory section will concentrate on the nature of maps and the history of cartography in relation to digital databanks of map im- ages. For practical reasons, in describing Digmap we take examples mainly from the collection of the Royal Library of Belgium. Introduction The creation of digital online databanks may have many particular goals, from the conservation or preservation of a collection to its substitution, but its most prominent aim certainly is to improve the collection’s accessibility. This implies facilitating access to information about that collection, in other words, improving communication on the collection’s content. Saken er behandlet med hjemmel i vilkårene for miljø-, transport- og anleggsplan gitt i konsesjon 4.11.2013, post 9. Bakgrunn Konsesjon til en likestrømsforbindelse mellom Norge og England ble gitt i 2001. Konsesjonssøknad om utførsel og innførsel av elektrisk energi ble senere avslått av Olje- og energidepartementet (OED) i 2003. I 2011 varslet Statnett at prosjektet skulle gjenopptas, og ny konsesjonssøknad for tilrettelegging av kraftutveksling med Storbritannia i medhold av energiloven § 4-2 ble sendt OED i mai 2013. I juni 2013 søkte Statnett om forlengelse av, og noen justeringer i, konsesjonen av 2001, samt utsatt frist for idriftsettelse til 2022. NVE ga den 4.11.2013 en ny konsesjon med varighet til 2043, samt utsatt frist for idriftsettelse til 2022. Samtidig bortfalt konsesjonen av 2001. OED ga den 13.10.2014 konsesjon til sjøkabel fra grunnlinjen og ut norsk kontinentalsokkel. Prosjektet består av et strømretteranlegg i Eiadalen med omlegging av Rjukan-ledningen og tilhørende hjelpeanlegg, kabel mellom Eiadalen via Kvilldal, i Suldalsvatnet og kabeltunnel fra Suldalsvatnet til Hylsfjorden.
