Geburtstag feierte, er- schien eine Chronik mit dem Titel „Jazz Studio Nürnberg „Ein Kellerloch als Tor zur Welt“, in der vor allem die Gründungsgeschichte aus den Ru- inen der Nachkriegszeit beschrieben wurde, die Zeit des großen Aufbruchs in der internationalen Musikszene, die legendären Konzerte mit allen Jazzgrößen aus Deutschland und USA und auch die Phase des kalten Krieges, in der das JazzStudio Nürn- berg nicht zuletzt als Organisator des Festivals Jazz Ost-West zu einem weltweit be- und geachteten Brückenkopf zu den Künst- lerinnen und Künstlern jenseits des Eisernen Vorhanges wurde. Zwanzig Jahre später geraten diese einschneidenden Ereignis- se – das Wort „Event“ war noch nicht erfunden –, welche die Kulturlandschaft in unserer Stadt mitgeprägt haben und von denen viele Menschen quer durch alle Bevölkerungsschichten sozialisiert wurden, langsam in Vergessenheit. Die einprägsa- men Künstlerpersönlichkeiten aus der „Gründerzeit“ verab- schieden sich nach und nach, die Grenzen zwischen Ost und West haben sich gelöst, die kulturellen Charakteristika im An- satz eines polnischen Saxophonisten unterscheiden sich nicht mehr von denen eines amerikanischen, französischen, deut- schen Musikers. Die Zeit des Rückblickens ist vorbei, Gegenwart und Zukunft stehen im Vordergrund. Und für diese neuen Herausforderun- gen scheint das 60 Jahre junge JazzStudio Nürnberg gewapp- net. Haben die Gründungsväter – und der Jazz der frühen Jahre war fast durchwegs männlich, abgesehen von ein paar wenigen Sängerinnen wie Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald oder in Deutsch- land Inge Brandenburg, die es sehr schwer hatten im harten Männermusikbusiness – einen nicht kleinen Teil der jüngsten Stadtgeschichte und vieler Örtlichkeiten mitgeschrieben und mit Konzerten und Festivals belebt, steht heute die nächste Generation an jazzbegeisterten, ehrenamtlich engagierten En- thusiasten bereit, um das Erbe weiterzuführen. Aus dem „Kel- lerloch“ heraus knüpfen sie Netzwerke mit Musikerinnen und Musikern in aller Welt ebenso wie in unserer Stadt zum studen- tischen Nachwuchs an der Musikhochschule, zu den regionalen Künstlerinnen und Künstlern und zu einem Publikum, das sich immer wieder gerne ans „Tor zur Welt“ verführen lässt Herzlichen Glückwunsch! Man traf gute Be- kannte, die Atmosphäre und Getränke waren angenehm temperiert, die Konzerte Bal- sam für die Seele. Es wurde spät, die abgelaufene Woche war abgehakt, man glitt entspannt ins Wochenende. Viele Jahre ging das so. Mit jedem Konzert wuchsen mein Ver- stehen und auch die Bindung. Dasein, zuhören, mitschwingen – zwischen wohligem Groove, reinen Kopfgeburten und neu- en und fantastischen Klangwelten. Das war Pulsschlag und Glück, Magie und Lebenselixier. Doch Genuss ist das eine, Engagement das andere. Als Walter Schätzlein 2002 zu mehr Beteiligung aufrief, machte ich mit. Im Vorstand war ich lange zuständig für die leidigen Finanzen, dem schieren Gegenteil von Groove. Und ein Dauerspagat: Hier der Anspruch und die Kunst und da der Zwang zu Öko- nomie und Publikumsgunst. Und daneben noch das Tagesge- schäft mit so unspektakulären Themen wie dem Kampf gegen eindringendes Wasser und rieselnden Sandstein. Glücklicherweise hält ein großes Netzwerk den Club am Lau- fen: Ehrenamtliche Helfer und Vorstände, solidarische Mitglie- der, überzeugte Kooperationspartner, großzügige Spender, die offene Öffentliche Hand … Ihnen allen danke ich ganz herzlich und bitte Sie, den Club und meine Nachfolger in Zu- kunft weiterhin so konsequent zu unterstützen. Gemeinsam haben wir vieles geschafft. Und wenn ich mich jetzt aus dem Vorstand zurückziehe: Der Club ist gut aufge- stellt für die nächste Runde. Seite 6 Zur Geschichte des JazzStudio Nürnberg Bereits 1954, als die Wohnhäuser darüber noch zerbombt in Trümmern lagen, haben junge jazz- begeisterte Menschen im historischen Keller- gewölbe unter dem Paniersplatz einen Ort ge- schaffen, der nach den Jahren der musikalischen Gleichschaltung durch das Nazi-Regime das Tor zu neuen, freiheitlichen Musikwelten aufstieß. „Live Jazz at its best since 1954“ – unter diesem Leitmotiv sind hier bis heute regelmäßig nam- hafte Vertreter der deutschen und internationa- len Jazzszene zu Gast.     Guitar player Primož Graši č was born in 1968 in Kranj, Slovenia. After high school in Kranj he went abroad and studied guitar at the Klagenfurt Conservatirium. Very soon jazz bands and orchestras became aware of the young but very talented musician and so after his studies he imediately became a member of the “Greentown Jazz Band”.' He was then cooperating with the “Dixieland” band from Kranj. His music career flurished after this and we can only share his biggest achievements with you. In the years 1991 – 93 he was a member of the “Ugrin-Divjak Quintet” and has regularly been cooperating with the “Big Band of RTVS (Radio Television Slovenia)” since 1992 he is also a member of “Boško Petrovi č's All Stars Band”, of “Ratko Divjak's Ensemble ”, the “Dominik Kranj čan Quartet”, “SLO Jazz Project” and has been cooperating as a studio musician at many recordings of such bands as the “Big Band RTVS”, the “Big Orchestra” and the “Symphonic Orchestra of RTVS”, the “New Swing Quartet”, “Vocal Art”, “Alenka Godec”, “Darja Švajger”, “Janez Bon čina”, “Marta Zore”… Since April 1998 he has been a full-time member of “Big Band RTV Slovenija” and the “Big Orchestra of RTV Slovenija”. In cooperation with Janez Bon čina-Ben č he has received two awards for his arrangements from International Professional Juries. In 1995 he was nominated for the musical award “Zlati petelin” (Golden Rooster) for the best arrangement of a foreign song. He was then cooperating with the “Jože Privšek Orchestra” at concerts in Portorož and in Ljubljana’s “Cankarjev Dom ” and also as a studio musician at their recordings of more than sixty albums.In July 1993 he was performing at one of the biggest jazz festivals in Europe, in Perrugia,Italy.

Gramss ist auch kompositorisch tätig. Er schrieb Hörspiel- und Filmmusik für zahlreiche Sendeanstalten, sowie Theatermusik. www.sebastiangramss.de Sebastian Gramss, Kontrabass, Komposition In jungen Jahren mehrfacher Preisträger bei Jugend musiziert. Frühe Klassikstudien in der Klasse von Professor Lau (Stuttgart). Studium an der Hochschule für die Künste Amsterdam und an der Musikhochschule in Köln u.a. bei D. Manderscheid, Joachim Ullrich (1989-1996). 1993 gründete er die Gruppe Underkarl. Er schrieb neben Kammermusik für verschiedene Besetzungen zahlreiche Hörspielmusiken, Filmmusik „040“ , „ Himmelsbraut“ und Theatermusik. Er arbeitete u.a. mit Fred Frith, Tom Cora, Peter Kowald, Zeena Parkins, Peter Brötzmann, Gunda Gottschalk, Tyler Ho Bynum, Karl Berger, Axel Dörner, Rudi Mahall, Nils Wogram, Johannes Bauer, Hans Kresnick, Rick Moody, Tony Oxley Celebration Orchestra, James Choice Orchestra, Tippet Ensemble Köln, Emex Ensemble Köln... Seine Tourneen und Konzerte führten ihn nach Afrika, Asien, Russland, USA und ganz Europa. Gramss wurde mehrfach für den Jazzpreis des SWF nominiert.     Bandinfo Schmid's Huhn 2014 Englisch

    After many years of conjoint work Cologne based saxophonists Stefan Karl Schmid and Leonhard Huhn created a new Quartet named “Schmid’s Huhn” as their means of expression. With bassist Stefan Schönegg and drummer Fabian Arends they will release their next album in the fall of 2014. Schmid and Huhn understand each other instinctively. Their ‘slight and powerful tone’ (Jazzthing) merges into one sound at which it folds contrapuntally in the very next moment opening up new sound scopes. This phenomenon is used in their compositions to reveal tonal details, attrition and different colors. They improvise, communicate and interact with each other whereat the treatment of the individually composed material is conducted by the particular moment. With bass and drums an earthy and lyrical sound arises which ‘sovereignly fills the space between tradition and avant-garde’ (Jazzpodium). Together Schmid and Huhn have been very successful over the last couple of years. In 2011 they won the composition award at the ‘Tremplin Jazz D’Avignon Festival in France, the ‘Sparda-Jazz-Award’ 2012 and in 2013 they have been nominated for the ‘New German Jazztrophy’. Inge Brandenburg had a difficult upbringing and soon had to learn to stand on her own two feet, but by the late 1950s she was being acclaimed as Europe’s finest female jazz singer. Time magazine compared her with Billie Holi- day, while musicians in general admired her. But the Ger- man record industry ignored her or tried unsuccessfully to reduce her to singing hit songs. This is the story of a woman in the 1950s and 1960s, when there was no place in Germany for self-assured women with international aspirations, a dramatic per- formance style and an emancipated attitude to love. Only through SING! INGE, SING is it possible to dis- cover a great German artiste. PRESS NOTICE It was at a flea market in Munich that the collector Tho- mas Rautenberg discovered an old photograph album containing photographs of an attractive woman who was completely unknown to him. He started to leaf through it and found a number of signed cards. The woman in question turned out to be Germany’s former Number One Jazz Singer, Inge Brandenburg (1929–1999). Rautenberg acquired a part of her estate and tried to find out more about her.
