Newport, Rhode Island is an extraordinary destination! On this tour, you will see and hear about what Thornton Wilder referred to as, “the 9 lives of the city by the sea”! Filled with natural beauty, history, and spectacular architecture, this stop will not disappoint. Start with your day with a drive through the older part of town. For over 100 years, Newport thrived as a British Colony. It’s a great story, and you will see some interesting architecture from that era. From there, head out to experience Newport’s incredible views on the famous Ocean Drive. There is no shortage of things to see and talk about in Newport. Eventually Ocean Drive turns into Bellevue Avenue, where most of the gilded age mansions are located. With your tour guide, you will drive past and discuss many of them, then stop and tour the Breakers, which was once the summer home of Alice and Cornelius Vanderbilt II. The Breakers is the grandest of Newport’s “cottages” and a symbol of the Vanderbilt family’s wealth at the turn of century in America.

Nature Conservation 44: 21–49. https://doi.org/10.3897/natureconservation.44.60175 Abstract Batu Caves hill is typical of karst hills in Peninsular Malaysia due to its small size and high biodiversity. It harbours 366 vascular plant species that represent about 25% of the Peninsula’s limestone flora. Five species are endemic to Batu Caves and 23 are threatened species. This high biodiversity is the result of many microhabitats, each with their own assemblages of species. Threats are especially severe as the area of Batu Caves is surrounded by urbanisation that encroaches to the foot of cliffs, is vulnerable to fire, habitat disturbance and, formerly, by quarrying. Assigning a Conservation Importance Score (CIS) to all species is quantitative and accurate, can be implemented rapidly and produces reproducible results. Species with highest CIS are native species of primary vegetation, restricted to limestone substrates, endangered conser- vation status and, in this case, endemic to Batu Caves.

Cullen2, Justin T. Pickett3 , Cheryl Lero Jonson4, Murat Haner5, and Melissa M. Sloan5 Abstract Purpose: Over the past several months, the coronavirus has infected more than six million Americans and killed nearly 200,000. Governors have issued stay-at-home orders, and prosecutors have filed criminal charges against individuals for defying those orders. And yet many Americans have still refused to keep their distance from their fellow citizens, even if they had symptoms of infection. The authors explore the underlying causes for those who intend to defy these norms. Methods: Using national-level data from a March 2020 survey of 989 Americans, the authors explore intentions to defy social distancing norms by testing an interactionist theory of foundation-based moral behavior in combination with faith in President Trump during the coronavirus pandemic. The analysis controls for a range of variables, including measures of low self-control and deterrence. Results: Low self-control is the strongest predictor of defiance intentions. Consistent with interactionist theory, defiance intentions are significantly higher for those holding specific faith in Trump and those endorsing binding foundations. Furthermore, the interaction of these two variables is significant and in the predicted direction. The results hold for two different measures of faith in Trump.

For a detailed understanding of their reactivity, a knowledge of the fun- damental processes during chemical reactions is crucial. These primary processes involve correlated changes in spin state, molecular orbitals as well as the geometric structure of the reactant and occur on femtosecond (fs) time- and Angstr¨om(˚ A)˚ length scales. Using optical laser pump – X-ray spectroscopic probe techniques the aforementioned dynamics of solvated TM complexes can be tracked with 100-picosecond(ps)-resolution at synchrotrons and 100-fs-resolution at X-ray Free Electron Lasers (XFELs). Time-resolved (TR) hard X-ray absorption (XAS) and emission (XES) spectroscopy is exploited to site-selectively probe the optically induced changes in structure and molecular orbitals of TM complexes with high relevance for catalysis. A novel setup for TR XAS at PETRA III has been implemented, consisting of a repetition- rate-tunable synchronized MHz fiber amplifier laser and a data acquisition (DAQ) strategy which is capable of measuring multi-photon events with single photon resolution at MHz repetition rates.

PREFACE This is a history of the Yanderbilt family, with a record of their vicissitudes, and a chronicle of the method by which their wealth has been acquired. It is confidently put forth as a work which should fall into the hands of boys and young men—of all who aspire to become Cap- tains of Industry or leaders of their fellows in the sharp and wholesome competitions of life. In preparing these pages, the author has had an am- bition, not merely to give a biographical picture of sire, son, and grandsons and descendants, but to consider their relation to society, to measure the significance and the influence of their fortune, to ascertain where their money came from, to inquire whether others are poorer because they are rich, whether they are hindering or promoting civilization, whether they and such as they are impediments to the welfare of the human i-ace.

The average consumption per capita in 1998 was 3.74 tonnes of aggregates. It is estimated that the current rock reserve in this area can only cope with the demands of this region for the next 30 years.
