Alterations to both services are being carried out without disruption to domestic and commercial supply, but occasional inconvenient road closures are required to facilitate the works. Vegetation clearance has also taken place at points along the A446, this being most visible near its junction with Gorsey Lane, where HS2 will bridge the A446, and south of Coleshill where road widening is required to serve the new intermodal railway station to be built close to Melbicks Garden Centre. Parish representatives on the Special Management Zone (SMZ) forum, which meets bi-monthly, have asked HS2 Ltd to minimise such clearance where possible, as mature vegetation is seen as a very effective form of mitigation. HS2 Ltd will continue to hold drop-in sessions in Curdworth and neighbouring villages, but have been requested to give more notice and wider publicity to these events so that residents can be more effectively informed of developments. National Grid’s work for HS2 Ltd National Grid is modifying some overhead electricity lines, pylons and gas pipelines along the HS2 route to allow for the build and operation of the new railway. To achieve the required safety clearance above HS2 and its associated infrastructure, they’re moving and raising the height of some electricity pylons and overhead line. This is being done locally in several places to the: • South of Hams Hall substation near Coleshill, Warwickshire to junction 6 of the M42, near the NEC, Solihull – 14 pylons and sections of OHL are being removed, and 18 new pylons being built. • North of Hams Hall substation to near Mile Oak, west of Fazeley, Staffordshire – two pylons and sections of OHL are being removed, and two new pylons being built. The Southern work began in September 2018 and the Northern phase began in January 2019. Activity will continue for the rest of 2019. 4 Current activity: • Access works • New pylon foundation work • Pylon assembly and erection • Foundations • Scaffold assembly • Ecologist presence to monitor nesting birds/vegetation clearance Upcoming activity: • Pylon assembly and erection • Scaffold netting • Access works – including trackway and machine site set up • Ecologist presence to monitor nesting birds/vegetation clearance • Wiring new cables between pylons • Pylon painting • Outages (won’t impact electricity supplies): North = May-July 2019 South = July-September 2019 • Pylon removal (October time) and reinstatement activities M42 motorway and Despacering the canal scaffolding overhead line wire 5 To advertise in next months edition contact us at [email protected] Community Engagement Evening Curdworth had its first Community Engagement Evening in July with representatives from local services attending to give information to local residents.
