5th Sunday in Ordinary Time Page 4 Greetings from Italy!
As you know, I am with a group of forty-five parishioners and friends, on pilgrimage to Italy. What a wonderful time we are having! We flew into Rome last Saturday, arriving at the Eternal City on Sunday morning. From the Rome airport we boarded our bus for Assisi, the town of St. Francis. What a beautiful, peaceful, historic town! We celebrated Mass at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels, one of my favorite churches because it houses the tiny church of the Porciuncula, a place St. Francis loved.
The following day we traveled to Florence, a city filled with lovely architecture, art, and historical monuments. The cathedral is amazing to see. Although we only had one day in Florence, we were able to take in a lot, and we had a particularly satisfying experience of wonderful Italian food. Then we returned to Assisi, where we had the honor of celebrating Mass at the tomb of St. Francis.
From Assisi we returned to Rome by way of Orvieto, another charming city with yet another amazing cathedral. We will be here in Rome for the rest of our pilgrimage. Tomorrow (Wednesday) we are set to attend a General Audience with Pope Francis. Of course, wherever we go we are taking you with us in thought and prayer. We pray for all of your intentions specifically in our daily Masses. It is a privilege to be walking in the footsteps of saints—a reminder that all of us are called to be saints as well. My hope is that the graces of this pilgrimage will be a blessing for all the parishioners of St. Edward the Confessor and San Felipe de Jesús.
Arrivederci,
Fr.
Arrivederci
Padre Philip

Present: Serenity Day Retreat on Tuesday, February 25, 2020 With guest speaker Kim Scott Retreat topic: “Preparing for Lent: A journey through Forgiveness to Fellowship and Freedom”
“Everyone says forgiveness is a lovely idea, until they have to forgive.” -C.S. Lewis
Forgiveness is central to everything Jesus talks about. It is the oxygen of the Kingdom of God. “Forgive us as we forgive others” is Jesus’ radical call and challenge to each one of us. Kim Scott will share humorous and poignant reflections about her journey through forgiveness to greater fellowship with God and freedom from bitterness, anger, and unrest. She will encourage and inspire us to make this Lent one of deep conversion through the practice of forgiveness.
Please join us for this Silent Retreat offering a morning of prayer, reflection and inspiration.

Twelve Reasons From The Teachings Of The Church For Wanting To Spend One Hour With Jesus In The Blessed Sacrament By Fr. John A. Hardon, S.J.
4. Your hour with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament will repair for evils of the world and bring about peace on earth. “Let us be generous with our time in going to meet Jesus and ready to make reparation for the great evils of the world. Let your adoration never cease.” (Pope John Paul II, Dominicai Cenae) 5. Day and night Jesus dwells in the Blessed Sacrament because you are the most important person in the world to Him! “Christ is reserved in our churches as the spiritual center of the heart of the community, the universal Church and all humanity, since within the veil of the species, Christ is contained, the Invisible Heart of the Church, the Redeemer of the world, the center of all hearts, by Him all things are and of whom we exist.” (Pope Paul IV, Mysterium Fidei) to be continued...
