The years of experiment were successfully passed. A total of ten thousand dollars was raised, one half of that sum by public subscription, and the remainder from state funds. Col. Abram Washburn donated a lot of land one and one-quarter acres and George B. Emerson of Boston provided the furnace for heating the building. It was a small, wooden, two-story structure containing a large schoolroom, and two recitation rooms in the upper story, and a Model School room, a chemical room, and two anterooms on the lower floor.” —Special Collections. The Montanan sat down with Black student athletes, representing different sports majors, hometowns and experiences to discuss racism in their lives. When we asked each student to personally reflect on the Black Lives Matter moment, the resounding theme was what we all might expect from a Grizzly: grace, grit and hope. Tompkins will assume responsibility for all Sheriff’s Office operations at 617-725-4025 the Suffolk County House of Correction, the Nashua Street Jail and the Civil Process Division.
