Mrs. Donna Colley is a teacher at Franklin Middle school. She teaches 6th, 7th, and 8th grade math in the Math Learning Lab. When asked how she likes teaching here at Franklin, her response was, “I like it a lot.” Mrs. Colley has been teaching for 11 years, and her favorite subject to teach is Math, of course! She said that all of her experiences while teaching have been enjoyable. Her favorite singer is George Strait, and her favorite chips are Cheetos. If Mrs. Colley could drive any car in the world she would choose to drive the Batmobile. For Halloween, she would like to be a pirate . Mrs. Colley has 2 sisters, a 2 year old daughter, and a 4 year old son. When she‟s not at school teaching Math, she enjoys playing with her kids, going on trips with her family, baking, and jogging. Other favorites are playing outside with her children, watching movies, and going to festivals with her family. If Mrs. Colley could go anywhere in the world she would go to Italy because it‟s beautiful. If there was only one month in the year she would want it to be June. If she had to pick another career besides teaching, she would choose to be a DJ or a Sports Commentator.

Miss Kacie Wade is a new teacher at Franklin Middle School. This is Miss Wade‟s first of year teaching, and she really likes it! She is teach- ing 7th grade Math at FMS. The best experience she‟s had in Franklin was performing with the other teachers at the homecoming pep rally. Miss Wade‟s favorite “vacation destination” is anywhere near the water during summer. Her favorite candy bar is Snickers, and her favorite drinks are Dr. Pepper and sweet tea. If she could have any pet in the world, it would be a monkey. Who wouldn't want one? Miss Wade‟s favorite books are the Harry Potter and Twilight series. When she was little she wanted to be a veterinarian. Miss Wade‟s favorite homemade dish is chicken spa- ghetti. Her favorite season is Summer because it‟s the season with the sun and wa- ter! If Miss Wade had to choose between rubies or diamonds, she would choose dia- monds. Miss Wade has an older sister. Another one of jobs in Franklin this year is working with the High School Dance Team and she really loves it! Miss Wade said she loves working in Franklin, and we are glad to have her here!

Hanna Alesia L is a 6th grader who plans on attending Texas A&M University to become a surgeon. Her favorite sport is softball, and her favorite food is salad. If Hanna was a bunny, she would want her fur to be blue. Her favorite movie is New Moon. Hanna loves to read. In fact, her favorite thing about school is reading class. She has one brother named Cooper who is three years old. She likes listening to country music, and her fa- vorite song is “Mine” by Taylor Swift. Hanna has never flown in an air- plane before, but she hopes to ride in one to New Mexico before she dies just for the fun of it. Gook luck in your dreams of becoming a surgeon, Hanna! Welcome to Franklin Middle School!

Nakhim S. is a 7th grader who attends Franklin Mid- dle School. He wants to be accepted into a flight school and become an Aircraft Controller. One day you might see Nakhim in the high tower at an airport! He would be a giant panda if he was an animal. Nakhim doesn‟t mind being called his nick- name, “Donut Boy,” because his family owns and works at the donut shop in town. He loves eating Korean and Japanese food. His favorite thing about school is seeing all of his friends. Nakhim collects model air- planes, and he loves to travel. In fact, he has traveled through most of Asia. If he had to pick one place to live for the rest of his life, it would be Seoul, South Ko- rea. Nakhim wants to hug a panda before he dies. Out of all the superheroes, he likes the best because he likes the water. We hope you like it here at FMS!

Hector J. is an 8th grader here at FMS. He plans on attending the Uni- versity of Texas , and either wants to go to the NFL or the military when he graduates. He will eat anything you put in front of him! If Hector had the choice of eating 18 ants or 6 roaches, he would eat the ants because they are tiny. His favorite movie is Paranormal Activity. He loves to play football and bas- ketball. Hector listens to rap music, and his favorite song is “Love The Way You Lie” by Eminem and Rihanna. His favorite thing about school is socializing with all his friends. If Hector was the principal for a day, he would change football practice to the afternoons instead of the morning and move the high school cheerleaders to our campus. His favorite hobby is playing the video game Call of Duty. Hector plans on taking a trip to England and going skydiving before he dies! Good luck getting into the NFL or the military. Welcome to FMS!

I would like to take this time to review our September guidance lesson, “The Reality Ride.” This lesson focused on the fact that all of life’s choices will eventually have conse- quences. This is why it is important to get on the “harder but worth it” track in life. To get on this track, you must identify at least one goal for your life and use it to motivate and in- spire your choices. You cannot control life’s challenges, but you can control how you respond and how you choose to deal with challenges in your environments. You can only control yourself. Anyone can do things that cause a “crash,” but it takes strength to use your goals as motivation to avoid a “crash.” Remember, the other track can keep you from obtaining your goals. It can take away options and opportunities in life. The “Harder but worth it” track will lead you to more opportunities, freedom, and self–respect!

Guess what season it is? Flu Season Oh, no! Don’t get “BLUE” Take everyday preventive actions to stop spreading Flu ! Here’s how: 1. Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it. 2. Wash your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, use a waterless hand sanitizer. 3. Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way. 4. Try to avoid close contact with sick people 5. If you are sick with flu-like illness, the CDC recommends that you stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone except to get medical care or for other necessities (Your fever should be gone without the use of a fever- reducing medicine). 6. While sick, limit contact with others as much as possible to keep from infect- ing them.

Composition Corner One dark, rainy night, the Bryant family joyfully zoomed off to see the Mighty Great Circus. Upon arriving at the big top, they quickly bought cold, stale popcorn, but that didn't put them down. They eagerly found their seats, anxious for the show to begin. They witnessed amazing acts which included per- forming animals, death—defying trapeze acts, and human contortionists who re- sembled pretzels! But of all the shows, the Bryant family’s most memorable was the clowns. One by one, 10 clowns entered the stage from a teeny, tiny, black car. They had bald heads with occasional red hairs sticking out of the sides, and all had huge shoes. Their faces were painted in large, creepy grins, so freaky they made a person stop laughing just looking at them. Their stunts were horrifying, they fell, stabbed, pushed, and slapped each other and even the audience . The audience roared with horror! The Bryant family ran until their sides hurt. As the family got into their car, tears of fear still stream- ing down their faces, they all agreed that this was the creepi- est, scariest circus yet.

Library News

Have you been to the library lately? Well, if you haven‟t, then you should. We all know that it does take some time to find a book in the library. How about saving some time by using card search? You can do it here at school or at home. The web ad- dress for this application is: www.g3online.com/franklinrms. If you can‟t do it at home, there is a computer lo- cated at the back of the library allowing you to do so. Also, students of FMS, I would like to inform you that Mrs. Siegert does enjoy company if your teacher allows you time in the library. If you find your book be- fore your time is up, you can sit down, relax and enjoy your book. The Book Fair was a huge success with sales of over $1500. Thanks, FMS! GT News

On October 19, 2010, GT students went on a field trip to the Downtown Houston Aquarium. There they took part in dissecting a squid and seeing all different spe- cies of exotic animals. Now, that sounds exciting! Also, on October 30, 2010, they are participating in a bake sale. The bake sale will be held at the Franklin Supermarket. All proceeds will go towards the Carnegie Library. Parents, the next meeting for GT is November 9, 2010 at the Frank- lin Middle School Library. We hope to see you there!
