The park’s saproxylic beetle fauna, associated with dead wood and veteran trees, can be considered as nationally important. The incomplete preservation and lack of key characters that could define the position of an ancient moss in modern classification remain the problem. Carboniferous records are still impossible to refer to any of the modern moss taxa. Numerous Permian protosphagnalean mosses possess traits that are absent in any extant group and they are therefore treated here as an extinct lineage, whose descendants, if any remain, cannot be recognized among contemporary taxa. Non-protosphagnalean Permian mosses were also fairly diverse, representing morphotypes comparable with Dicranidae and acrocarpous Bryidae, although unequivocal representatives of these subclasses are known only since Cretaceous and Jurassic. Even though Sphagnales is one of two oldest lineages separated from the main trunk of moss phylogenetic tree, it appears in fossil state regularly only since Late Cretaceous, ca. -

Hook. est signalé pour la première fois dans la chaîne des Pyrénées sur la base de trois récoltes effectuées en 2007 dans le périmètre de la Réserve Naturelle de Mantet (Pyrénées-Orientales, France). Summary – Tayloria splachnoides (Schleich. ex Schwägr.) Hook. is recorded for the first time in the Pyrenees from three gatherings made in 2007 in the Natural Reserve of Mantet (Pyrénées-Orientales, France). Tayloria splachnoides /Splachnaceae / Pyrenees / ecology / Mantet INTRODUCTION In the course of a bryological survey of the Natural Reserve of Mantet (Pyrénées-Orientales, France), several populations of Tayloria splachnoides (Schleich. ex Schwägr.) Hook., a species not formerly recorded in any part of the Pyrenees, were found. Tayloria splachnoides is one of the eight members of genus Tayloria in Europe (Hill et al ., 2006), almost all of which are listed in the Red Data Book of European Bryophytes (ECCB, 1995) The worldwide distribution of Tayloria splachnoides was reviewed by Szmajda et al . ( in Ochyra & Szmajda, 1991). From the detailed analysis provided in this work, this species exhibits “a very wide but strongly discontinuous arctic- alpine range in the Holarctic” and recurs in “Central America”. In Europe the species is bicentric, occurring in the northern parts of the continent and in the Central European mountains, where it is mainly alpine. The species has been considered doubtful for France (Düll, 1985, 1992). -

About the Book the Format Acknowledgments
About the Book For more than ten years I have been working on a book on bryophyte ecology and was joined by Heinjo During, who has been very helpful in critiquing multiple versions of the chapters. But as the book progressed, the field of bryophyte ecology progressed faster. No chapter ever seemed to stay finished, hence the decision to publish online. Furthermore, rather than being a textbook, it is evolving into an encyclopedia that would be at least three volumes. Having reached the age when I could retire whenever I wanted to, I no longer needed be so concerned with the publish or perish paradigm. In keeping with the sharing nature of bryologists, and the need to educate the non-bryologists about the nature and role of bryophytes in the ecosystem, it seemed my personal goals could best be accomplished by publishing online. This has several advantages for me. I can choose the format I want, I can include lots of color images, and I can post chapters or parts of chapters as I complete them and update later if I find it important. Throughout the book I have posed questions. I have even attempt to offer hypotheses for many of these. It is my hope that these questions and hypotheses will inspire students of all ages to attempt to answer these. Some are simple and could even be done by elementary school children. Others are suitable for undergraduate projects. And some will take lifelong work or a large team of researchers around the world. Have fun with them! The Format The decision to publish Bryophyte Ecology as an ebook occurred after I had a publisher, and I am sure I have not thought of all the complexities of publishing as I complete things, rather than in the order of the planned organization. -

Materiały z Puszczy Białowieskiej opracował S a c k (1925). Muscinae Borów Tucholskich są mało poznane; w pracy B u b s a - a m e n a (1901) znajdujemy tylko nieliczne dane o przypadkowo złowionych na tym terenie gatunkach. Nieco danych z okolic Bydgoszczy i Mazowsza podają S z n a b l (1881) i S it o w s k i (1928). -

Together with the families Anthomyiidae and Scathophagidae these constitute the superfamily Muscoidea. Overall statistics on recording activity are given by decade and hectad. Checklists are presented for each of the three Watsonian vice-counties 58, 59, and 60 detailing for each species the number of occurrences and the year of earliest and most recent record. A combined checklist showing distribution by the three vice-counties is also included, covering a total of 241 species, amounting to 68% of the current British checklist. Biodiversity metrics have been used to compare the pre-1970 and post-1970 data both in terms of the overall number of species and significant declines or increases in individual species. Experiments in turns followed decomposition in outdoor environments with the beginning in spring, summer and winter. As the test objects a cadaver of domestic pig (Sus scrofa f. domestica Linnaeus, 1758) weighing 50 kg to 65 kg was used for each test. Our paper presents results of family Muscidae, which was collected during all three studies, with focusing on its using in forensic practice. Altogether 29,237 specimens of the muscids were collected, which belonged to 51 species. It was 16.6% (n = 307) of the total number of Muscidae family which are recorded in the Czech Republic. In all experiments the species Hydrotaea ignava (Harris, 1780) was dominant (spring = 75%, summer = 81%, winter = 41%), which is a typical representative of necrophagous fauna on animal cadavers and human corpses in outdoor habitats during second and/or third successional stages (active decay phase) in the Czech Republic. Oversigt over Danmarks Muscidae (Diptera) af VERNER MICHELSEN (Witha summary: An annotated list of Danish Muscidae (Diptera)) Fam. Muscidae udmærker sig blandt medlemmer af gruppen Calyptratae ved følgende kombination af karakterer: (l) hypopleuron uden stærke bør ster, (2) analåren (CuA2+lA) forkortet, når ikke vingens bagrand, (3) hanlige cerci smeltet sammen til en >>cercalplade«, (4) hunlige postabdomen uden stigruer eller helt undtagelsesvis (Achanthiptera) med et enkelt par bevaret på 6. abdominalsegment. Gruppen omfatter vel over 3600 arter på verdensbasis og er pænt repræsenteret i alle zoogeografiske regioner. F r a Skandinavien kendes der ca. 370 arter, hvoraf 213 arter eller ca. 580fo ifølge nærværende fortegnelse er fundet i Danmark. Dette er resultatet af forfatterens bearbejdelse af samlingerne på Zoologisk Museum i Køben havn og Naturhistorisk Museum i Århus samt af egne indsamlinger over en flerårig periode. Endvidere har forfatteren kritisk gennemgået så vidt mu ligt alle hidtidige fundangivelser fra Danmark. HisTORISK OvERSIGT Den første systematiske fortegnelse over danske insekter er C. C. Kramers fra 1760. I denne er fam. Muscidae repræsenteret ved to arter, Musca do mestica L. (stuefluen) og »Conops« calcitrans L. (stikfluen). Denne for tegnelse og flere efterfølgende fra slutningen af 1700-tallet er dog nærmest af historisk interesse. Af større betydning var J. C. Fabricius's indsats, idet han i arbejder fra 1781-1805 beskrev 6 arter af fam. Muscidae på basis af danske dyr. Tre af disse navne har stadig gyldighed, nemlig Hydrotaea dentipes, Phaonia pallida og Myaspiia meditabunda. Efter et dipterologisk dødvande gennem de første tiår af 1800-tallet fremstod R. C. Stæger i trediverne som en ypperlig kender og samler af den danske fauna af tovinger.
