Résumé : Les études de phylogénie moléculaire sur les Lépidoptères Rhopalocères et Zygènes sont de plus en plus nombreuses ces dernières années modifiant la systématique et la taxinomie de ces deux groupes. Une mise à jour complète est réalisée dans ce travail. Un cadre décisionnel a été élaboré pour les niveaux spécifiques et infra-spécifique avec une approche intégrative de la taxinomie. Ce cadre intégre notamment un aspect biogéographique en tenant compte des zones-refuges potentielles pour les espèces au cours du dernier maximum glaciaire. Cette démarche permet d’avoir une approche homogène pour le classement des taxa aux niveaux spécifiques et infra-spécifiques. Les conséquences pour l’acquisition des données dans le cadre d’un inventaire national sont développées. Summary : Studies on molecular phylogenies of Butterflies and Burnets have been increasingly frequent in the recent years, changing the systematics and taxonomy of these two groups. A full update has been performed in this work. -

This range represents the eastern limit of the mountain system of the Mon golian Altai. The new subspecies is related to P. phoebus alpestris V erity , 1911, stat. nov. The last taxon was sometimes treated as an ecological form, but represents a good subspecies, ac cording to new studies. Zusammenfassung: Von einer kleinen, isolierten Bergkette im Südwesten der Mongolei (Gobi- Altai aimak, 30 km südlich von Biger somon) wird Parnassius phoebus tsenguun subspec. nov. beschrieben. Diese Bergkette ist die Ostgrenze frd Gebirgssystems des Mongolischen Altai. Die neue Unterart ist mit Parnassius phoebus alpestris V erity , 1911, stat. nov., verwandt. Letz teres Taxon wurde manchmal als ökologische Form behandelt, stellt aber nach neueren Unter suchungen eine gute Unterart dar. -

The methodology applied here is based on two complementary approaches. While many studies have examined factors potentially impacting the rate of local population extinction, few experimental studies have examined the consequences of extinction for spatial population dynamics. Here we report results from a large- scale, long-term experiment examining the e ects of local population extinction for the dynamics of surrounding popula- tions. From 2001 – 2008 we removed all adult butterfl ies from two large, neighboring populations within a system of 17 subpopulations of the Rocky Mountain Apollo butterfl y, Parnassius smintheus . Surrounding populations were monitored using individual, mark–recapture methods. We found that population removal decreased immigration to surrounding populations in proportion to their connectivity to the removed populations. Correspondingly, within-generation popula- tion abundance declined. Despite these e ects, we saw little consistent impact between generations. e extinction rates of surrounding populations were una ected and local population growth was not consistently reduced by the lack of immigra- tion. e broader results show that immigration a ects local abundance within generations, but dynamics are mediated by density-dependence within populations and by broader density-independent factors acting between generations. -

(NEW Dec. 3, PAPILIO SERIES) ~19 2008 CORRECTIONS/REVIEWS OF 58 NORTH AMERICAN BUTTERFLY BOOKS Dr. James A. Scott, 60 Estes Street, Lakewood, Colorado 80226-1254 Abstract. Corrections are given for 58 North American butterfly books. Most of these books are recent. Misidentified figures mostly of adults, erroneous hostplants, and other mistakes are corrected in each book. Suggestions are made to improve future butterfly books. Identifications of figured specimens in Holland's 1931 & 1898 Butterfly Book & 1915 Butterfly Guide are corrected, and their type status clarified, and corrections are made to F. M. Brown's series of papers on Edwards; types (many figured by Holland), because some of Holland's 75 lectotype designations override lectotype specimens that were designated later, and several dozen Holland lectotype designations are added to the J. Pelham Catalogue. Type locality designations are corrected/defined here (some made by Brown, most by others), for numerous names: aenus, artonis, balder, bremnerii, brettoides, brucei (Oeneis), caespitatis, cahmus, callina, carus, colon, colorado, coolinensis, comus, conquista, dacotah, damei, dumeti, edwardsii (Oarisma), elada, epixanthe, eunus, fulvia, furcae, garita, hermodur, kootenai, lagus, mejicanus, mormo, mormonia, nilus, nympha, oreas, oslari, philetas, phylace, pratincola, rhena, saga, scudderi, simius, taxiles, uhleri. Five first reviser actions are made (albihalos=austinorum, davenporti=pratti, latalinea=subaridum, maritima=texana [Cercyonis], ricei=calneva). The name c-argenteum is designated nomen oblitum, faunus a nomen protectum. Three taxa are demonstrated to be invalid nomina nuda (blackmorei, sulfuris, svilhae), and another nomen nudum ( damei) is added to catalogues as a "schizophrenic taxon" in order to preserve stability. Problems caused by old scientific names and the time wasted on them are discussed. -
