I was at a meeting with the disabled supporters association (NUDSA) and they are this month celebrating 20 years in business. They are a quite remarkable group of individuals, who never fail to inspire me. The main protagonists are Gareth Beard, who you may remember had an article in last month’s newsletter and has been the Chair of NUDSA for years, Stephen Miller who is a highly decorated Paralympian, and writes in this newsletter, Ros Miller (Stephens mum / coach / boss) and the Leazes ender Joe Ayton who has been there since the start. They have produced a magnificent magazine which celebrates their 20 years and looks back at the journey. It is well worth a read if you can get a copy. NUDSA have been instrumental in working with NUFC to invoke a better deal for disabled supporters, and I hope they are even stronger in 2028 when they celebrate their 30th. Now the younger generation is growing, promising us new victories. We decided to hold an international tournament for players at the age of eight. During the three-day tournament, young football players from different countries will be able to meet, make friends, take in the spirit of a competition. Our idea is to create an exciting atmosphere of a holiday, competition, football festival, where there is no room for division, but only the satisfaction of the game. We invite you to take part in the First International challenge cup «FSHM CUP» among team players born in 2012, which will be held at one of the largest sports complexes in the world - Luzhniki Olympic Complex. The tournament is organized by one of the oldest football academies in Russia – FSHM (founded in 1954). Several teams from the best football academies of the world will also be invited, which will be a surprise both for the guests and the participants of the Cup. This methodology has proved to be useful in measuring the economic value of intangible talent in professional sport and in other entertainment industries. In our estimations – and in the elaboration of the rankings – two elements are taken into consideration: popularity (degree of interest aroused between the fans and the general public) and media value (the level of attention that the mass media pays). The calculations may be made at specific points in time during a season, or accumulating the news generated during a particular period: weeks, months, years, etc. Additionally, the homogeneity amongst the measurements allows for a comparison of the media value status of individuals, teams, institutions, etc. Together with the measurements and rankings, our database allows us to conduct analyses on a wide variety of economic and business problems: estimates of the market value (or “fair value”) of players’ transfer fees; calculation of the brand value of individuals, teams and leagues; valuation of the economic return from alliances between sponsors; image rights contracts of athletes and teams; and a great deal more.
