Information leaflet on visas and residence permits - Stand 07/2021 -

General information: Lithuanian citizens are subject to the free movement of persons within the . Visas or resident permits are not needed any more. For longer-period stays in Germany European Union citizens have to register at the competent registry office (Einwohnermeldeamt) in Germany.

Citizens of Non-EU-Countries, living with a valid permanent residence permit or a category “D“ visa in can travel to Germany for visiting/business purposes for 90 days within 6 months without another visa.

To stay in Germany for more than 90 days within 6 months and / or working purposes it is not necessary to apply for a visa in advance, if the foreigner has one of the following Lithuanian residence permits: – residence permit for family members of EU Member States' nationals – card acc. to Art. 10 sec. 1 Directive 2004/38/EC: „Europos Sąjungos valstybės narės piliečio šeimos nario leidimas gyventi Lietuvos Respublikoje”, provided that the family member accompanies the EU Member States' national or moves to him to establish a joint residence – “long-term resident – EC” acc. to Council Directive 2003/109/EC: „ilgalaikis gyventojas – EB“, provided that all stipulations of Art. 14 ff. of the Council Directive 2003/109/EC are fulfilled

In any other case an application for a residence permit has to be filed in the German in advance.

Applications must be filed personally.

Duration: Visa for the purpose of studying can usually be issued within 4 weeks. For other kinds of visa a processing time of to a few months has to calculated. Please consider this while planning your stay and application.

Necessary documents: – two filled in and signed application forms – valid (valid for at least six more months) – residence permit for Lithuania (valid for at least three more months) – 2 biometric passport photographs – visa fee of 75 € – health insurance (can be presented when picking up the visa) – further documents depending on the purpose of stay (see below and page)

All documents have to be presented in original version together with two simple copies. Documents which are not in German or English have to presented with a certified translation by a notary.
