The Pacesetter Richmond Ski Club Founded 1954 August 2008 President’s Message It’s hard to believe, but summer is flying by. I hope that you are finding time to enjoy all that summer brings, as well as to attend a few of the fun-filled Club Socials that have been offered. There is one change on the Club’s Board of Directors that I need to share with you. Kerry Svoboda, Meetings Director, had to resign her Board position due to an accident suffered by her brother. Kerry has committed to help him in his recovery efforts and she did not feel that she would have time to adequately fulfill her Board position. On behalf of the Club and the current Board, I’d like to thank Kerry for her work on the Board as Meeting Director last year, as well as this year. She had already begun planning for this year’s meetings as well. We also wish her brother a speedy recovery. Fortunately, Anne Clendenin has agreed to fill the Director of Meetings position for the remainder of the Club year. Anne has served on the Board previously as Director of Pacesetter and Social, so she will transition effortlessly into her new role. Thanks, Anne! Planning is well underway for this year’s Xtravaganza. This is the kickoff event for the Club each year and it will be held September 21st at the Ski Center in Midlothian. As in the past several years, we have been fortunate to partner with the Ski Center to offer you the chance to learn about and sign up for one of the trips that are being offered, as well as to take advantage of fun, food and some great deals on ski and boarding gear and clothing from the Ski Center. More details will be published in the Pacesetter, as well as on our website. In last month’s message, I outlined some of the steps that the Board has taken to create a balanced budget for the Club. We have been successful in creating the budget, but it took a lot of effort and discussion among the Board. We will continue to evaluate the Club’s expenses and we may need to implement additional changes throughout the year. One area that has not yet been finalized at the time I’m writing this is the monthly membership meetings. We are reviewing the meeting location contract and costs and we will work on that in the upcoming month and we will keep you posted on our progress. Rest assured, our goal is to make sure that you receive the best possible value for your Club membership. Have a safe and fun filled August!
