  • Reasons Affecting the Sustainability of Sanitation
Kolanukonda Gram Panchayat Tadepalle Mandal Guntur District CASE2016/NO. 14 STUDY Reasons affecting the sustainability of sanitation IMAGES Photo Credit: E. Manikanta Reddy, Program Officer, PRIA Though sanitation as a necessity is well known to us, the habit seems to be a temporary one always. The practice of usage of toilets does not seem to have become a constant habit among many villagers. Sustainability of sanitation is thus one of the biggest challenges that administrators encounter while implementing sanitation programmes. One of the reasons could be that the government programmes and policies are changing over a period of time, local representatives are changing, population is increasing and no Gram Panchayats (GP) has had any future-based sanitation plans. Gram Panchayats have been taking lead and working for so many years to achieve the basic sanitation. But sustainability remains a question. There are other reasons that are peculiar to some GPs such as being close to a highway, thus attracting a lot of the floating population. Kolanukonda is a Gram Panchayat in Tadepalle Mandal, Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh state. It is on the border of Guntur and Krishna Districts. The GP is close to a National Highway. Almost 80% of the GP land is owned by the government and the residents are aware of laws and rules In this context, from 2005 onwards, the GP started concentrating on sanitation issues. It started the construction of toilets with the help of various schemes and by themselves also. The State Government recognised duration, population has increased and six new houses the work done by the GP and gave them the “Shubhram” have increased.

  • District Plan Guntur District
SECOND FIVE YEAR PLAN DISTRICT PLAN 1956-61 GUNTUR DISTRICT PLAI^NNING & DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT ANDHRA PRADESH PREFACE The District being the administrative unit very intimately affects the life of the people. Most people regard the headquarters of the district as the seat of administration. Ir is there that every Department has its representative who is responsible for administering the plan programme as far as it relates to his subject. It was therefore considered necessary to prepare the district segments of the State’s Second Five Year Plan which would give a broad picture of the plan program me in the district. A district plan for the Second Plan period as a whole may not be very realistic as it has got to be flexible enough to admit of changes necessary consequent on the finalisation of detailed and specific plans for each year in consultation with the various Departments of the State and the Planning Co mmission. Even so the district plan would give the frame work within which the plan will be implemented in the District. The present publication furnishes the detailed pro grammes of development works and schemes program med for execution during the Second Plan period in the District. They also include schemes that w'ould benefit a particular region or the State as a whole but which are proposed to be implemented in the district. We are conscious that this publication is capable of being improved in order to serve the needs of the public better. Suggestions for improvement are, therefote, welcome and they may be communicated to the Deputy Secretary (Planning), Government of Andhra Pradesh.

On the 24th March, 2020 the Prime Minister of India Shri. Narendra Modi has announced a 21 day lockdown for the entire country hoping to break the chain of infection. Later, the lockdown has been extended due to the increase in the number of cases all over the country. The lockdown has already disproportionately hurt unorganised and marginalized communities such as Waste Pickers, sanitary workers, drainage workers, construction workers, daily wage workers, HIV Positives, transgenders etc. due to loss of livelihood and lack of food, shelter, health, and other basic needs. Due to the lockdown, millions of migrant workers stranded and are struggling to access essential services across the country. The Lockdown is pushing workers of these sectors into deeper poverty and they are ighting Corona and Hunger at the same time. Additionally, most of these communities do not possess Ration cards, and are inding it increasingly dificult to avail themselves of any of the government sponsored relief assistance schemes. DBRC’s Response (Since 27th March, 2020) After the announcement of lockdown 1.0 in India, the team of DBRC has discussed about the intensity of the spread of the Covid 19 and also eff ect on the family of the target communities due to lockdown. TOWN DIRECTORY VILLAGE It TOWNWISE PRIMARY CENSUS ABSTRACT R.P.SINGH OF THE INDIAN ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICE DIRECTOR OF CENSUS OPERATIONS ANDHRA PRADESH PUBLISHED BY THE GOVERNMENT OF ANDHRA PRADESH 1995 FOREWORD Publication of the District Census Handbooks (DCHs) was initiated after the 1951 Census and is continuing since then with .some innovations/modifications after each decennial Census. This is the most valuable district level publication brought out by the Census Organisation on behalf of each State Govt./ Uni~n Territory a~ministratio~. It Inte: alia Provides data/information on· some of the baSIC demographic and soclo-economlc characteristics and on the availability of certain important civic amenities/facilities in each village and town of the respective ~i~tricts. This pub~i~ation has thus proved to be of immense utility to the pJanners., administrators, academiCians and researchers. The scope of the .DCH was initially confined to certain important census tables on population, economic and socia-cultural aspects as also the Primary Census Abstract (PCA) of each village and town (ward wise) of the district. The DCHs published after the 1961 Census contained a descriptive account of the district, administrative statistics, census tables and Village and Town Directories including PCA. After the 1971 Census, two parts of the District Census Handbooks (Part-A comprising Village and Town Directories and Part-B com~iSing Village and Town PCA) were released in all the States and Union Territories. Th ri art (C) of the District Census Handbooks comprising administrative statistics and distric census tables, which was also to be brought out, could not be published in many States/UTs due to considerable delay in compilation of relevant material.
