Fife Herald, Thursday, 12th October 1848 "Saturday, October 7.-- Alexander Brebner, groom, was charged with having, on the 25th of July last culpably, carelessly and recklessly driven a horse and gig along the public road leading from Burntisland to Thornton, in consequence of which the shaft of the gig, at a place in Gallatown, came in contact with Lillias Brochie and knocked her down, and the wheel of the gig having passed over her, she was considerably bruised and wounded, and had seven of her ribs broken. He pleaded not guilty, and a proof being led, the jury found him guilty of culpable and reckless driving, and he was sentenced to one month's imprisonment."
