After just a short distance, turn right onto a sandy footpath marked with an arrow for the self-guided . Follow the path running parallel to the road on the right. A little way along, the path comes very close to the road with a vehicle barrier to the right. Just ahead you will see a waymarker with a black arrow marking the Horse Ride to the left.

Horse Ride to Road Turn left here to join the Horse Ride. This long straight path takes you straight across the centre of the common. Chobham Common is a 1,400 acre area of lowland , a type of habitat that is globally rare and threatened. It is managed by Wildlife Trust for nature conservation and recreational use. The common is a National Nature Reserve, an EU Special Protection Area (for the protection of rare ) and a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The site is an important breeding area for a number of rare animals including water voles, nightjars and sand lizards. Continue along the main path, ignoring all the turns off to the left and right, for more than a mile. At the far side of the heathland you will pass through a small section of , and then the path emerges out onto the road next to a metal vehicle barrier. If you are walking your dog, it's a good idea to put them on the lead as soon as you see the vehicle barrier at the end of the path. surreywalks Gracious Pond Road to Brook Turn left onto the road and follow the road edge with the common on the left. As the road bends sharp right, go straight on onto the wide track (signed as a footpath) immediately to the left of White Cottage. As this track bends right, fork left to go past a vehicle barrier onto the track into the woods. After just a few paces, fork left. Follow the path ahead and then bending quite hard round to the right. A few paces further on, continue on the narrow footpath ahead climbing into the forest. Follow this path for some distance to pass under power lines. Soon afterwards you will come to a T-junction, bear left downhill. Follow the path as it bends left again, ignoring the path off to the right. The path crosses a brook with wooden fencing each side of the track.

Brook to Railway Sleepers A few paces after crossing the brook, turn right onto a footpath marked with a blue arrow. Follow this path for nearly a mile, climbing gradually. After the paths sharply bends right, you will reach a T-junction, keep right here. Ignore the next turning on the left and keep straight on, following the path. You will soon see a section of track with railway sleepers laid to the right.

Railway Sleepers to Staple Hill Car Park A few paces later, turn sharp left and follow the path bending to the left. The path then straightens out, continue for about 200 yards. Take the first turning on the right. Follow this narrow path as it winds through the thick gorse. surreywalks

The path goes over a area via a low sleeper bridge and then climbs up a few well-spaced steps. The path emerges out directly opposite the gap in the hedge where the walk began. Go ahead and cross the road with care to return to the car park.
