Presidential Suite San Pietro Located on the 6th floor, the San Pietro Suite offers breathtaking views over San Pietro Dome. This exclusive and refined suite has been completely refurbished in 2017 and features a living room, a dining area, one large panoramic bedroom, a master bathroom in white and grey marble (with two sinks, separate bathtub and shower), and a second guest bathroom. The suite features an elegant combination of wood paneling, a beautiful painting over the sofa, an antique late 18th-century desk, a show case with original antique Roman artifacts on display, as well as all the modern amenities including a plasma-screen TV. The bedroom’s walls and fabrics are cream-colored, and there is a second plasma- screen TV as well as another access to the private terrace running the length of the entire apartment. The magnificent panoramic terrace is equipped with chaise- longues, tables and chairs which make it ideal for an outdoor drink or simply to enjoy the spectacular view over the city, the Spanish Steps and the Vatican. Presidential Trinità dei Monti Located on the 5th floor, this beautiful suite overlooking the Spanish Steps, was recently renovated. The bright, airy corner suite features large floor-to-ceiling windows with balconies which offer an unforgettable view of Rome and the twin domes of the beautiful Trinità dei Monti Church. The suite has black and white marble floors, as well as black/ white carpeting and the living room is decorated with original paintings and classically-styled furniture with a modern accent. There is also a dining area with Swarovsky crystals set in the ceiling like so many stars to create a romantic atmosphere ideal for a private dinner. The bedroom and living room contain plasma-screen TVs, and the main bathroom is covered in black marble with Swarovski crystals lighting up the ceiling. There is also a large bathtub and a walk in shower. This suite can be connected to another double room. Approx. 80 sq. mt. Penthouse Villa Medici Located on the 7th floor, the Penthouse Villa Medici luxurious suite has recently undergone a complete renovation, featuring a completely new style which is very modern but with some classical accents. The breathtaking view from its private 150 sq. mt. terrace remains the same, and this magical space continues to offer a unique location where to relax and enjoy the view of the city with a late afternoon cocktail, a private dinner or for private events. Upon entering the suite, with its elegant beige Botticino marble floors, the spacious sitting room features an elegant beige sofa, a plasma TV as well as large windows looking out over the city. Penthouse Villa Medici The adjacent dining area, separated by two classical columns, features a large black oval table with an ornate white base and four black chairs with horse-hair upholstery. The mirrors reflect the beautiful view on every wall. A sliding door separates the dining area from the master bedroom, decorated in elegant and neutral grey, beige and white tones with accents of red provided by the bed's base and the suspended overhead canopy, as well as the bed-side tables and sofa. A large plasma TV with DVD player and a black writing desk, as well as a very large walk-in closet, complete the space. The master bathroom is covered in Botticino marble with a wall-to-wall shower and Jacuzzi bathroom, separate WC and an ultra-thin TV built directly into the mirror, which does not show until it's turned on via remote control. The guest bathroom is also in Botticino marble. Approx. 85 sq. mt. Hassler Penthouse Located on the Hassler's 8th floor, the 330 sq. mt. Hassler Penthouse suite offers the most breathtaking view over Rome’s city center skyline, including the Spanish Steps and Piazza di Spagna with its Barcaccia fountain by Bernini and the famed Via Condotti, Rome’s most exclusive shopping street. Elegant, contemporary décor blends seamlessly with a state-of-the-art music and lighting system. Although it makes a dramatic story that would parallel the composition of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Requiem, it is not true that Schubert was working on this symphony up to the moment of his death. Schubert began composing this symphony in 1822, writing only two complete movements before setting it aside. He may have returned to it later if he had lived longer, but it seems clear that he stopped working on this piece because he wasn’t interested in finishing it at the time. The two completed movements were both very typical in form and style of symphonies at the time. The first is an Allegro moderato in sonata form, and the second is an Andante con moto that alternates two contrasting themes.

It tells how appliances work in each apartment, important phone numbers, etc. as well as other useful information as to restaurants, stores, and living in Rome. * ALARM CODE: There is an alarm keypad located next to the door in the study area with the green chairs. On entering the apartment you will hear a "Mission Impossible" tune which will end the moment you de-activate the alarm. To de-activate the alarm, please immediately press 2000 on the touch pad. Upon leaving the apartment, please activate the alarm. With all doors closed, press 2000 on the touch pad and immediately exit the apartment. * Virtually all of the buildings in the historic center of Rome, including ours, are hundreds of years old.     Journey to Rome: Approaching and Exploring the Eternal City (INDS 214, January 2019) Munich‐Verona‐Rome Rome Pompeii SYLLABUS Instructors: Associate Professors Markus Dubischar (Classics) and Nestor Gil (Art) Course Description The breadth and depth of Rome's historic and cultural legacy are matched by few other cities in the world. This course will be a double journey in time. Naturally, we will explore the city of Rome itself, considerably (but not exclusively!) focusing on classical antiquity. In addition, we will attempt to recreate the experience of traveling to the Eternal City as an educational and transformational experience sought by noblemen, intellectuals, and artists in the 18th and 19th centuries. The reports of four famous Rome travelers (Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Charles Dickens, Mark Twain, and Henry James) will add depth and reflection to our own journeys and explorations. This course consists of three main parts: (1) the approach to Rome, literally and metaphorically, following Goethe's path via Munich, Innsbruck‐Brenner, and Verona; (2) explorations in Rome, combining classroom sessions and extensive archeological, cultural, and art‐historical excursions; (3) a visit to the Naples area with two of the best‐excavated sites of Roman antiquity, the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum, destroyed – but paradoxically also preserved – by an eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 AD. Learning Outcomes In this course, students will gain critical historical understanding of Rome as a cultural and political center through the ages, as well as of "Rome" as an idealized city of the imagination.
