We are grateful that bass- baritone Luca Pisaroni has agreed at very short notice to sing the role of Leporello in Mr. Furlanetto's place. Luca Pisaroni Making his Boston Symphony Orchestra and Tanglewood debuts this evening, bass-baritone Luca Pisaroni grew up in Busseto, Parma. His musical training began at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milan and continued with Renato Sassola in Buenos Aires and Armen Boyajian and John Fisher in New York. His opera credits include Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro in Klagenfurt (for which he was awarded the Vienna State Opera's Eberhard-Wachter-Medal, as "young revelation of the season"), Masetto in Don Giovanni at the 2002 Salzburg Festival under Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Colline in La boheme at the Opera-Bastille in Paris, Figaro in Le nozze di Figaro at the Opera National du Rhin in Strasbourg and at the Theatre des Champs-Elysees, Alidoro in La Cenerentola in Santiago, Chile, and Guglielmo in Costfan tutte at the Mozartwochen at the Salzburg Landestheater. He continued his studies in Vienna, where he graduated with honours in Lied and Oratorio from the Musikhochschule. After an OPERA CLASSICS 8.660102-04 apprenticeship in the opera studio of the Vienna State Opera, he became a member of the ensemble in 1987. Since then he has appeared in a variety of bass rôles and sung under the conductors Claudio Abbado, Zubin Mehta, Seiji Ozawa and Sir Charles Mackerras. He has enjoyed repeated success as Basilio in Il barbiere di Siviglia, Colline in La bohème, Ferrando in Trovatore and Bartolo in Le nozze di Figaro, having performed the last rôle on the occasion of MOZART the State Opera’s first visit to China. Peter Köves has also sung with the State Opera on tour in Israel and Japan, with the Vienna Volksoper and at the Salzburg Festival. Invitations to sing on radio and television have taken him to all parts of Europe. However, we were pleasantly surprised to see how many new issues there actually are this month, still managing to fill several pages of this catalogue. One title to point out, albeit not ‘new’, is the latest bargain boxset from Sony: the RCA Living Stereo Collection, including 60 recordings from the famous catalogue. We get many enquiries about availability of these titles as they can be difficult to get hold of, so it is nice to see them on the market again. The size of the set may be a bit off-putting to some, but it is very well priced at £69.95 (just £1.17 per disc!). See p.2. New special offers this month include the Ondine, Praga, IDI (historical), Lyrita and Collegium labels, plus selected titles from Harmonia Mundi, EMI and Berlin Classics. There is also a small selection of reduced-price DVDs on p.25. A lot of special offers that have featured in recent mailings are due to come to an end at this month. A full list of these can be found on p.25 - there are 28 in total!
