A date, which will soon be remembered in history as one of the worst in the history of human civiliza- tion. But while the world still recuper- ates from this crisis, not many have realised its ripple effect, which was already put into effect the moment these unfortunate incidents unfolded. SHOOT MY CITY 23 Hong Kong A trip to Hong Kong on work meant that one didn’t get much time to see the usual attractions. But if you are a photographer, you’re bound to enjoy 23 the sights and sounds this bustling me- tropolis offers, as you walk down the crowded streets. PRO-PROFILE 34 Eric Guth Eric Guth’s job is the stuff that most dreams are made of. It might not have always been such a charmed job, but now he gets paid to travel on a cruise to exotic locations and spend time do- ing what he is most passionate about, photography. On one of his cruise ex- peditions he discovered what he likes to photograph the most – ICE. And it’s been a non-stop journey since. SPECIAL FEATURE 44 Destination: Photo Paradise! 44 With summer approaching, it is time to consider great holiday spots. And naturally, catering to all the photog- raphy enthusiasts out there, we spoke to photographers who have done their fair bit of travelling, to get their recommendations of the best locales which will appeal to both the vaca- CONTENTS tioner and photographer in you. TIPS AND TECHS 58 Creating Kaleidoscope Effect Kaleidoscopes are apparatuses that create optical illusions. Inside is a circle of mirrors and they contain loose, coloured objects such as beads or pebbles or bits of glass. So, in this Photoshop experiment, we thought of having some fun with previously taken images, creating illusory effects with them, the kind one gets to see inside a kaleidoscope! 62 When Nature Calls! Wildlife Photography is one of pho- tography’s favourite genres and is arguably the most popular amongst enthusiasts. Explore the world around you and the ‘wild things’ you can shoot. 68 Say Cheese! It’s Summer! It is the month of April and I feel nos- talgic writing this, as my mind drifts back to all those times when one was in school and the summer holidays had just begun. Needless to say, if you’re reading this, you’d probably be thinking the same thing - that the photographs from those holidays are the only and the most tangible memories you have of those times. 62 LENS REVIEW CAMERA REVIEW 80 Tamron 18-270mm 84 Olympus E-5 Looking at how technology has evolved F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD Tamron’s new lens, the 18-270mm in the last two decades, we realise that F/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD, comes at a a clear point of professional deliver- time when the market is choc-a-bloc ance in terms of desirable innovations with DSLRs that have broken new has been established. APRIL 2011 [6] ASIAN PHOTOGRAPHY AND IMAGING The Letter of the month will receive a gift from Uniross back Dear Editor, I am a keen photo enthusiast and have been closely reading your wonderful magazine for the last three years. What I seem to like is the quality of the photographs and the write-ups, which are of consistently high standard and every issue of the magazine always demonstrates a few tips which sharpen skill. March 2011 copy made an excellent read. The Pro- Profile of BPS Walia - “The Industrial Paradise” brought up the topic in a very effective manner. It was heartening to see bland industrial objects being captured so very well, bringing out the sheer scale and magnitude of the subjects. I particularly liked the double spread (evening shot of the gas chimney, with the magical sky in the background). In another picture, the snaking pipeline snap is very well composed. The unduly terrain makes it all the more interesting. Readers’ Comments and Suggestions... Feed Kudos to BPS Walia, for being such a polished craftsman with his lens. This story on his accomplishments and photographic journey will surely inspire a lot of budding industrial photographers. Please carry more such articles covering “niche” areas. We get to see a freshness of approach and technique. Keep up the good work. Regards Manoj Kumar, Gurgaon Dear Manoj, Thanks a lot for your comments and I am happy to know that you enjoy reading our magazine. What you mentioned about BPS Walia is indeed true. His excellent work and experience over the years have been an inspiration to many in the industry and his work is only getting better and better. We will keep your comments in mind and continue to bring fresh perspectives to our readers. APRIL 2011 [8] ASIAN PHOTOGRAPHY AND IMAGING BLOGEYE IN THE EYE OF THE STORM 011. Earthquakes. Revolutions.
