Aalisarnermut, Piniarnermut Nunalerinermullu Naalakkersuisoqarfik Departementet for Fiskeri, Fangst og Landbrug Uumasunik Nakorsaqarfik Inuussutissalerinermullu Oqartussaaffik (UNIO) Veterinær- og Fødevaremyndigheden i Grønland (VFMG) The Veterinary and Food Authority of Greenland (VFMG) under the Ministry of Fisheries, Hunting and Agriculture has issued the following guidelines for bringing dogs and/or cats into Greenland. The guidelines also cover travelling with these animals within Greenland. In order to protect the Greenlandic Sled Dog as a breed Act no. 18 of 30 October 1998 establishes a so called sled dog district. The territory is defined as follows: th ● North of Greenland on the West Coast from north of 66 northern degree of latitude, th ● The entire East Coast down to Kap Farvel, east of the 44 western degree of longitude. Within this district, only Greenlandic Sled Dogs may be kept and it is strictly prohibited to bring other dogs into these areas. This concerns both dogs travelling onboard cruise ships with tourists and local dogs travelling within Greenland. In accordance to Article 19, subsection 2 of Act no. 18 of 30th October 1998 by Greenland´s Home Rule regarding sled dogs, it is prohibited to introduce dogs of any race into the sled dog districts. The same Article states that it is prohibited to reintroduce Greenlandic Sled Dogs once they have left the sled dog district. Working dogs and service dogs for disabled people may be permitted admittance to the sled dog district, but only after receiving a permit from the Government of Greenland. Working dogs are solely defined as the dogs used by police or by the authorities in relation to border control. -

CAREER GUIDANCE IN NORDIC SELF GOVERNING REGIONS Opportunties and Challenges ABSTRACT The Nordic self-governing regions (the Faroe Islands, Greenland and the Åland Islands) pose a specific context for careers guidance policy and practice. Characterised by their island topographies, small populations and historically minoritised languages, these regions have in recent years gained greater autonomy over their domestic affairs. As a result steps have been taken towards developing domestic careers guidance policy and practice suitable for their own territories. In this chapter case studies of two of these regions will be presented – Greenland and the Faroes – in order to explore the specific challenges and opportunities facing these communities. With both regions historically subordinate to the Danish crown, these communities have a shared inheritance in terms of education, economic and careers policy, and they also face shared challenges in terms of their distinctive labour markets, language contexts and concerns with migration. However, as this chapter will show the specific manifestation of these challenges, and responses to these challenges has differed between the communities. The findings demonstrate how the communities of Greenland and the Faroe Islands are developing approaches to careers guidance policy and practice which draw from existing Nordic approaches, and benefit substantially from Nordic co-operation, but which also challenge and develop their Nordic and specifically Danish inheritances to create distinctive new models. INTRODUCTION: NORDIC SELF-GOVERNING REGIONS The Nordic self-governing regions are distinctive within the Nordic region in terms of career guidance policy and practice, because their growing autonomy has resulted in a drive to create new territory-specific policy and systems. -

Imagining China on Greenland's Road to Independence
Imagining China on Greenland’s Road to Independence Ulrik Pram Gad, Naja Dyrendom Graugaard, Anders Holgersen, Marc Jacobsen, Nina Lave & Nikoline Schriver For decades, Greenlandic politicians have sought independence in international politics and economy. Renewed global interest in the Arctic has given new impetus to a strategy of diversifying the existing dependency relations, as a way to put coloniality behind. This article investigates how Greenlandic foreign policy narratives have cast China in different roles that support this strategy. Some narratives are informed by Orientalist tropes imported from Denmark, while others dismiss the very same tropes. Some embrace Chinese partners as crucial on Greenland’s road to independence, while others reject China as imperialist. Mainly, China has been imagined as a potent source of material resources (export revenues, investments, labour). Initially, this narrative was employed to support a business attempt to reinvigorate traditional hunting through new export channels. Later, narratives underscored Greenlandic ambitions as a mining country. Recently, they have backed a Greenlandic search for new solutions to the less-hyped fishing and tourism industries. Besides the promise of material gains, Greenlandic authorities have also imagined China as an occasion for international recognition. However, the sought for recognition has changed drastically, from the time when Greenland’s national team played soccer against Tibet to current attempts to negotiate science, infrastructure and paradiplomacy with Beijing and Copenhagen. The analysis is based on media reports, government foreign policy statements and parliamentary debates 1999-2018. Theoretically, the analysis draws on a tradition of analyzing international politics and foreign policy as driven by narratives constructing nation state identities in relation to Others, focusing particularly on Orientalist tropes and anti-colonial alternatives.
