HAPLOCERATIDAE JZITTEL, l§śTl OPPELIIDAE BONARELLL 1894 (AMMONOIDEA) W KELOWEJU JURY CZĘSTOCHOWSKIEJ (z 7 fig. i 2 tafol.) Streszczenie Analizie paleontologicznej została poddana kolekcja amonitów kelowejskich z jury częstochowskiej zgrupowanych w trzech rodzinach: Phylloeeratidae, Haplo ceratidae i Oippeliidae. Znaleziska pochodziły ze skondensowanych utworów dol nego i górnego (sensu polonico) keloweju, z poziomów Sigaloceras całlowense, pars—Kosmoceras duncani, pars (— Quenislted'toeerais flextaostatuim). Opisano 6 gatunków amonitów należących do następujących rodzajów: Ptychophylloceras, Calliphylloceras, Lissoceras, Oxycerites, Strungia i Thraxites. Omówiony zespół gatunków w powiązaniu z pozostałymi grupami faunistycznymi częstochowskiego keloweju dowodzi dominacji na tym terenie wpływów medyterańskiej (submedy- terańskiej) prowincji zoogeograficznej. WSTĘP Amonity należące do rodzin Phylloceratidae, Haploceratidae i Oppe- liidae mimo względnej rzadkości występowania i niezbyt dużego zróżni cowania gatunkowego stanowią wśród skamieniałości kelowejskicih Jury Polskiej 1 grupę nader interesującą, godną nieco szerszego omówienia. Poprzednio cytowali je m. in. M. Neumayr (1871), K. Wójcik (1911), J. Siemiradzki (1922), a w latach powojennych S. Z. Różycki (1953) i J. Kopik (1967). STRATYGRAFIA Większość opisanych obecnie amonitów, a więc Ptychophylloceras flabellatum (Neumayr), Calliphylloceras demidojj} (Rousseau), Lissoceras voultense (Oppel), Thraańtes depereti (Lemoine) i Strungia voultensis Elmi pochodziła ze skondensowanej, niewielkiej miąższości (około 20 cm) warstwy bulastej (fig. 1, 2) zawierającej w spoiwie marglistym otoczaki i konkrecje wapienne oraz bezładnie rozmieszczoną i wymieszaną faunę kilku poziomów amonitowych dolnego i górnego keloweju {sensu poloni co). Warstwa ta we Wrzosowej obejmuje przedział stratygraficzny za warty między poziomami Sigaloceras calloviense i Kosmoceras duncani (= poziomem Peltoceras athleta auctt.). W 'Pierzchnie koło Kłobucka warstwa ta zawiera ponadto amonity poziomu Quenstedtoceras flexico- statum. Pokrywa ją w opisywanych odsłonięciach równie niewielkiej,, kilkunastocentymetrowej miąższości warstwa stromatolitowa zawierająca we Wrzosowej faunę wyższych części poziomu Kosmoceras duncani. W rejonie Kłobucka warstwa stromatolitowa należy już do poziomów: Quenstedtoceras flexicostatum, pars i Q. lamberti, pars (fig. 1). [email protected] Received: 07/10/06 / Accepted: 30/11/06 Abstract A comparative study is made on Callovian to middle Oxfordian sequences along the Northeastern Iberian Chain (E. Spain). In the NW areas, from Veruela-Ricla to Tosos (SW-S of Zaragoza), Callovian deposits are represented by expanded carbonate sequences (mudstone and marls with a variable content in clastics) ranging from early Bullatus to Athleta Biozone. Farther East in the near area of Moneva-Ariño (Sierra de Arcos) and in the area of Calanda (SE of Zaragoza), this stratigraphic interval is represented by a strongly condensed, 2-4 m thick, highly incomplete sequence. Bullatus to early Anceps biozones are partly represented under bioclastic or oolitic packstone facies. The Callovian-Oxfordian transition interval deposits are represented by a decimeter-thick iron- ooid fossiliferous limestone condensed sequence (low values of sedimentation rate) formed by expanded sediments (high values of instant rate of sediment accumulation).

Pavia, Dipartimento di Scienze della Terra, via Valperga Caluso 35, I-10124 Torino (Italy); [email protected] KEY-WORDS - Systematics, Ammonitida, Lissoceras, Bathonian, Tethys. ABSTRACT - L. monachum has been frequently recorded in the Upper Bajocian and Lower Bathonian, but references in literature differ in morphological details as they are based on a juvenile and poorly-preserved holotype. In addition, the type of L. monachum comes from a bed affected by taphonomical condensation mixing fossils from Early and Middle Bathonian times, i.e. the biochronological meaning of Gemmellaro’s taxon cannot be specified with biostratigraphic criteria from the type-locality. These references are here revised and refused on the basis of two topotypes recently sampled at Monte Erice in western Sicily, which allow a precise morphological definition of L. monachum by means of architectural and sutural characteristics. The only acceptable biostratigraphic datum comes from a Lower Bathonian specimen from southern France. The differences from L. ferrifex, L. magnum, and L. ventriplanum are discussed. Finally, the suture-line of topotype PU111502 of L. monachum and those specimens from the Upper Bajocian of the Venetian Alps, here named L. aff. monachum, support the phyletic relationships between L. ferrifex and L. magnum through transitional forms of L. monachum aged for the Tethyan Early Bathonian.

They are the opercula with which the ammonites closed up the aperture of the conch after the animal had withdrawn into the body chamber. So far as I know there has been only one occurrence noted of an Aptychus in American Mesozoic formations. Castillo and Aguilera described Aptychus mexicanus from the Jurassic rocks of Sierra de Catorce, San Luis Potosi, Mexico,' and this seems to have been a sporadic occurrence. But in Cuba there is a definite horizon which has been traced for several miles and at which nothing but aptychi and an occasional small Haploceras are found. The rocks consist of alternating shales and limestones with the former predominating. They are dark gray but weather light brown or almost white and show a considerable amount of iron stain. The aptychi occur on the surfaces of the shale and are well preserved, although very fragile on account of the iron impregnation.

Kobayashi, R. Toriyama, W. Hashimoto [Vol. XXIII, pp. 65-75, PI. XIII, February 1, 1982] University of Tokyo Press Upper Jurassic and Lower Cretaceous Ammonites from Sarawak Borneo, East Malaysia Contributions to the Geology and Palaeontology of Southeast Asia, CCXXIII Takeshi ISHIBASHI [With Plate XIII] Introduction Some Upper Jurassic and Lower Cretaceous Ammonites were collected from the Bau Series distributed in the southern area of Kuching, Sarawak, Borneo during the geological and palaeontological reconnaissance survey in 1974. The reports of the marine Jurassic formations and faunas in Southeast Asia (SATO, 1975) and the Cretaceous System of Southeast Asia (HASHIMOTO et al., 1975) have already been published. A considerable number of Upper Jurassic and Lower Cretaceous am monites have been reported from Southeast Asia (mainly Indonesia, New Guinea and-Philippines), although their occurrences are sporadic in Borneo and especially rare in Sarawak, East Malaysia. The Bau Series named by WILFORD in 1950 (WILFORD, 1955, p. 46) is dis tributed around the Ba!J area and the southern area of Kuching and consists of fossiliferous limestone, chert, shale, siltstone, sandstone, conglomerate, etc. The Bau Series has been stratigraphically assigned to the Jurassic and Cretaceous based on foraminifers, bivalves, coral sponges, gastropods and algae found in the limestone (ScRIVENOR, 1905; KRoL, 1930; WILFORD, 1955 etc.). At the same time, it is presumed to be correlative with the Cretaceous formations distributed in the Seberoeang area of the upper Kapuas River in Indonesian Borneo (ZEYLMANS vAN EMMICHOVEN, 1939) on the basis of lithological similarity.

THE UNIVERSITY OF KANSAS PALEONTOLOGICAL CONTRIBUTIONS May 15, 1970 Paper 47 SIGNIFICANCE OF SUTURES IN PHYLOGENY OF AMMONOIDEA JURGEN KULLMANN AND JOST WIEDMANN Universinit Tubingen, Germany ABSTRACT Because of their complex structure ammonoid sutures offer best possibilities for the recognition of homologies. Sutures comprise a set of individual elements, which may be changed during the course of ontogeny and phylogeny as a result of heterotopy, hetero- morphy, and heterochrony. By means of a morphogenetic symbol terminology, sutural formulas may be established which show the composition of adult sutures as well as their ontogenetic development. WEDEKIND ' S terminology system is preferred because it is the oldest and morphogenetically the most consequent, whereas RUZHENTSEV ' S system seems to be inadequate because of its usage of different symbols for homologous elements. WEDEKIND ' S system includes only five symbols: E (for external lobe), L (for lateral lobe), I (for internal lobe), A (for adventitious lobe), U (for umbilical lobe). Investigations on ontogenetic development show that all taxonomic groups of the entire superorder Ammonoidea can be compared one with another by means of their sutural development, expressed by their sutural formulas. Most of the higher and many of the lower taxa can be solely characterized and arranged in phylogenetic relationship by use of their sutural formulas. INTRODUCTION Today very few ammonoid workers doubt the (e.g., conch shape, sculpture, growth lines) rep- importance of sutures as indication of ammonoid resent less complicated structures; therefore, phylogeny. The considerable advances in our numerous homeomorphs restrict the usefulness of knowledge of ammonoid evolution during recent these features for phylogenetic investigations.

  • Double Alignments of Ammonoid Aptychi from the Lower Cretaceous of Southeast France: Result of a Post−Mortem Transport Or Bromalites?
Double alignments of ammonoid aptychi from the Lower Cretaceous of Southeast France: Result of a post−mortem transport or bromalites? STÉPHANE REBOULET and ANTHONY RARD Reboulet, S. and Rard, A. 2008. Double alignments of ammonoid aptychi from the Lower Cretaceous of Southeast France: Result of a post−mortem transport or bromalites? Acta Palaeontologica Polonica 53 (2): 261–274. A new preservation of aptychi is described from the Valanginian limestone−marl alternations of the Vergol section (Drôme), located in the Vocontian Basin (SE France). Aptychi are arranged into two parallel rows which are generally 50 mm in length and separated by 4 mm. The alignments are very often made by entire aptychi (around 10 mm in length), oriented following their harmonic margin. Aptychi show the outside of valve to the viewer: they are convex−up. This fos− silization of aptychi is successively interpreted as the result of post−mortem transport by bottom currents (taphonomic− resedimentation process) or the residues (bromalites: fossilized regurgitation, gastric and intestinal contents, excrement) from the digestive tract of an ammonoid−eater (biological processes). Both the parallel rows of aptychi are more likely in− terpreted as a coprolite (fossil faeces) and they could be considered as both halves (hemi−cylindrical in shape) of the same cylindrical coprolite which would have been separated in two parts (following the long axis) just after the animal defe− cated. • Lowermost Upper Jurassic Facies and Stratigraphy of the Jaisalmer Basin, Western Rajasthan, India
Volumina Jurassica, 2012, X: 61–82 A review of the Lower – lowermost Upper Jurassic facies and stratigraphy of the Jaisalmer Basin, western Rajasthan, India Dhirendra K. PANDEY1, Shipra CHOUDHARY1, Tej BAHADUR1, Narendra SWAMI1, Dharamveer POONIA1, Jingeng SHA2 Key words: facies, lithostratigraphy, Jurassic, Jaisalmer Basin, India. Abstract. The Lower – lowermost Upper Jurassic (up to Oxfordian) sedimentary succession of the Jaisalmer Basin on the Rajasthan Shelf is characterized by gradual lateral and rapid temporal facies variations, the existence of condensed sequences in certain horizons, and rich and highly diverse faunal contents. Lithostratigraphically, these Jurassic rocks of the basin have been grouped into the Lathi and Jaisalmer formations and the lower part of the Baisakhi Formation. The facies consist of (i) cross-bedded medium- to coarse-grained sandstone, (ii) cross-bedded to thinly laminated silt to fine-grained sandstone, (iii) silty marl, (iv) calcareous mud- to grainstone and sandy rudstone, (v) thinly laminated carbonaceous shale and (vi) conglomerate. These represent fluvial, floodplain, lacustrine, protected marginal marine, and shoreface to shelf environments. There are several marker units, which allow the making of intrabasinal lithostratigraphic correlations; however, a lack of knowledge of the detailed stratigraphic successions within individual lithostratigraphic units makes difficult a precise intra-basinal stratigraphic correlation. The present review provides a summary of the lithostratigraphy established by previous workers on the Lower – lowermost Upper Jurassic (up to Oxfordian) rocks of the Jaisalmer Basin, incorporating additional data, with a detailed stratigraphic succession within each lithostratigraphic unit, and more faunal elements recently. INTRODUCTION Basin is a pericratonic basin, placed now on the northwestern margin of the Indian peninsular shield (Fig.
