ISSN 1849-3327 UDC 33:316 EDITORIAL Economic and social development is in the focus of interest of every contemporary society: equally in developed countries and also in countries which are still going in that direction. Therefore, it is not unusual that conferences dedicated to economic and social development cause attention of numerous researchers across the world. Since majority of researchers come from academic community, their interest is to publish papers in journals important for their profession and scientific discipline. Organizers of conferences on economic and social development aim to help all collaborators in the development of their scientific projects, and especially in the dissemination of their research results. That was the main reason to start Journal of Economic and Social Development which will primarily publish selected papers from regular and thematic conferences. First number of the journal is comprised of 25% of accepted papers from the second conference in Paris, and selection process, after previous double blind reviews, was carried out by members of the International Editorial Board led with excellence criteria and thematic actuality. Authors of selected papers come from different economic and social environments and have different backgrounds as well as different academic education. That diversity is great foundation for interesting papers. We hope that readers will recognize values promoted by this journal, and that they will support its development. The primary objective of this paper is to prepare a case study on tax policy reforms in Nigeria, with the specific objectives of examining the main tax reforms in the country, highlighting tax revenue profile and contributions of the three categories of taxes identified as personal, company and custom duties to the total revenue collection. The techniques of data analysis adopted for the empirical study were the Analysis of Variance Method and the Scheffe’s Multiple Comparison techniques. In addition, the ‘F’ test of the analysis of the variance was used to test the hypothesis of no significant difference in the impact on personal, company and custom duty tax revenues of the Federal Government by each of the following tax reform policy objectives; enhancement of the principles of good tax system, improvement in the tax administrative structure,

  • Albanian Families' History and Heritage Making at the Crossroads of New
Voicing the stories of the excluded: Albanian families’ history and heritage making at the crossroads of new and old homes Eleni Vomvyla UCL Institute of Archaeology Thesis submitted for the award of Doctor in Philosophy in Cultural Heritage 2013 Declaration of originality I, Eleni Vomvyla confirm that the work presented in this thesis is my own. Where information has been derived from other sources, I confirm that this has been indicated in the thesis. Signature 2 To the five Albanian families for opening their homes and sharing their stories with me. 3 Abstract My research explores the dialectical relationship between identity and the conceptualisation/creation of history and heritage in migration by studying a socially excluded group in Greece, that of Albanian families. Even though the Albanian community has more than twenty years of presence in the country, its stories, often invested with otherness, remain hidden in the Greek ‘mono-cultural’ landscape. In opposition to these stigmatising discourses, my study draws on movements democratising the past and calling for engagements from below by endorsing the socially constructed nature of identity and the denationalisation of memory. A nine-month fieldwork with five Albanian families took place in their domestic and neighbourhood settings in the areas of Athens and Piraeus. Based on critical ethnography, data collection was derived from participant observation, conversational interviews and participatory techniques. From an individual and family group point of view the notion of habitus led to diverse conceptions of ethnic identity, taking transnational dimensions in families’ literal and metaphorical back- and-forth movements between Greece and Albania.

BARKER UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-MADISON. U.S.A. Abstract: The uses of matrimony have always been standard practices for dynastic advancement through the ages. A perfect case study involves two important Italian families whose machinations had local implications and widespread international extensions. Their competitions are given particular point by the fact that one of the two families, the House of Savoy, was destined to become the dynasty around which the Modern State of Italy was created. This essay is, in part, a study in dynastic genealogies. But it is also a reminder of the wide impact of the crusading movements, beyond military operations and the creation of ephemeral Latin States in the Holy Land.

The Mongols’ Approach to Anatolia and the Last Campaign of Emperor John III Vatatzes Koji Murata EORGIOS AKROPOLITES (ca. 1217/20–1282) in his History describes in detail the diplomacy of the emperor Gof an exiled Byzantine government, John III Vatatzes (r. 1221–1254). The narrative gives the impression that the emperor’s reign was full of campaigns to the West—the Bul- garians, Epiros, and Constantinople under the Latins. Recent studies indicate that the empire had close relationships with the East, in particular with the Rum Seljuk.1 In a broader perspec- tive, the emperor’s strategy, during the latter half of his reign, may be situated in the context of the Mongols, as discussed in depth by John S. Langdon.2 The purpose of the present article is to reexamine the generally accepted date of an imperial expedition described by Akropolites, and to place the expedition in the broader context that surrounded the ‘Nicaean’ empire. The expedition was led 1 D. A. Korobeinikov, Byzantium and the Turks in the Thirteenth Century (Oxford 2014); the articles in A. Peacock and S. N. MEDIEVAL SERBIAN COINS 6 TYPES OF KING STEFAN RADOSLAV King Stefan Radoslav Nemanjic Doukas was born in 1192, became King at the age of 36 in 1228 and not known when exactly but died somewhere after 1235. He was the only known son of Stefan the First-Crowned Nemanjić by his first wife Eudokia Angelina. His father Stefan the First- Crowned Nemanjić was born around 1165 and died 24th September 1228 after which he as a only son and heir inherited the throne. His mother later remarried, to Alexios V Doukas, who only for few month ruled as Emperor of Byzantium in 1204. She was a daughter of Alexios III Angelos Komnenos and Euphrosyne Doukaina Kamatera. So Stefan Radoslav grandparents were the Byzantine Emperor Alexios III Angelos (1195–1203) and Euphrosyne Doukaina Kamaterina. His wife was Anna Angelina Komnene Doukaina, who was the daughter of the ruler of Epirus and Thessalonica, his father in law, Theodore Komnenos Doukas Angelos (1215–1230). It was his grandmother Euphrosyne Doukaina Kamaterina that brought the Doukas name into the Stefan Radoslav life. This is the name that he took on and that later appeared on his coins when he took over kingdom from his father. Maybe his grandmother and his step father Alexios V Doukas as well as later his wife influenced him to view himself as a member of Doukas royal family. Doukas or Ducas in Greek language Δούκας, feminine: Doukaina or Ducaena, in Greek language Δούκαινα; plural: Doukai or Ducae, in Greek language Δοῦκαι, from the Latin title DUX meaning "leader" or "general", in Greek language δοὺξ [ðouks].

  • Spiking Neuromorphic Architecture for Associative Learning
Spiking neuromorphic architecture for associative learning Dissertation document submitted to the Graduate School of the University of Cincinnati in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. Author: Alexander Jones M.S. University of Cincinnati 2016 B.S. University of Cincinnati 2015 September 29, 2020 Committee: Rashmi Jha (Chair), Marc Cahay, Manish Kumar, Cory Merkel, and Ali Minai Abstract The work shown in this dissertation demonstrates the implementation of a specialized neural network for associative memory within novel neuromorphic hardware. The architecture is implemented using CMOS-based circuitry for information processing and memristive devices for the network’s memory. The architecture is based on a non-Von Neumann version of computer architecture called in-memory computing where information storage and processing reside within a single location. The CMOS circuitry within the architecture has both digital and analog components to perform processing. The memristive devices used in the architecture are a newer form of memristive device that possesses a gate that is used to potentiate/depress the device. These gated-memristive devices allow for simpler hardware architectures for tasks such as reading/writing to a device simultaneously. The architecture demonstrated here uses a property that is often seen within various memristive devices where the state is semi-volatile. This semi- volatile state can be used in tandem with a spiking neuromorphic architecture to perform unique tasks during learning depending on the degree of volatility in the device. Once memories are programmed into the network, it can then later recall previously seen memories by observing partial information from them and performing pattern completion.
