Facilitated and supported by First Draft, the project involved 24 of Brazil’s largest newsrooms and included 59 journalists and editors, aided by an additional three First Draft staff members. Designed to provide a trusted source of information for Brazilian voters, Comprova’s ambition was to prevent the duplication of newsrooms verifying the same content, to consolidate the verification effort, and to ensure that quality information was amplified via the large audiences that already engage with the 24 news brands. Comprova was inspired by the CrossCheck methodology, devised by First Draft’s Managing Director, Jenni Sargent, and first tested in the lead up to the 2017 French presidential election.     BRIEFING Brazil ahead of the 2018 elections SUMMARY On 7 October 2018, about 147 million Brazilians will go to the polls to choose a new president, new governors and new members of the bicameral National Congress and state legislatures. If, as expected, none of the presidential candidates gains over 50 % of votes, a run-off between the two best-performing presidential candidates is scheduled to take place on 28 October 2018. Brazil's severe and protracted political, economic, social and public-security crisis has created a complex and polarised political climate that makes the election outcome highly unpredictable. Pollsters show that voters have lost faith in a discredited political elite and that only anti- establishment outsiders not embroiled in large-scale corruption scandals and entrenched clientelism would truly match voters' preferences. However, there is a huge gap between voters' strong demand for a radical political renewal based on new faces, and the dramatic shortage of political newcomers among the candidates. Voters' disillusionment with conventional politics and political institutions has fuelled nostalgic preferences and is likely to prompt part of the electorate to shift away from centrist candidates associated with policy continuity to candidates at the opposite sides of the party spectrum. Many less well-off voters would have welcomed a return to office of former left-wing President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (2003-2010), who due to a then booming economy, could run social programmes that lifted millions out of extreme poverty and who, barred by Brazil's judiciary from running in 2018, has tried to transfer his high popularity to his much less-known replacement.

    ISSN 2175-6945 Um Brasil (em) Paralelo: as “verdades” da ditadura e sua historicidade mediada como um empreendimento político1 André Bonsanto DIAS2 Universidade do Estado do Rio Grande do Norte, Mossoró, RN Resumo Partindo do princípio de que a história está em disputa e sobre ela uma série de agentes e instituições atuam para legitimar as (suas) verdades sobre os acontecimentos no tempo, o presente artigo problematiza os embates travados em torno da ditadura militar brasileira, tendo como exemplo o caso da empresa e produtora de conteúdo Brasil Paralelo. A partir desta análise procuramos analisar como as narrativas sobre o período vêm se inserindo conflituosamente em um embate onde memória, história, verdade e opinião acabam por se confluir e confundir, atuando a partir de empreendimentos políticos bastante evidentes. Palavras-chave: História; Memória; Verdade; Ditadura militar; Brasil Paralelo Introdução A constatação do historiador francês Marc Ferro, proferida há mais de três décadas, nunca nos pareceu tão evidente e atual: a história - e suas utilizações políticas – é uma disputa, pois permanece constantemente “vigiada” pelos atores e instituições que a constituem. Àquele momento, Ferro (1989) - um reconhecido historiador do cinema - estava se referindo ao contexto da grande proliferação de conhecimentos históricos produzidos “por outros meios” que não as narrativas historiográficas tradicionais. Narrativas estas que, sejam elas audiovisuais, informativas e/ou de entretenimento, seriam de suma importância para democratizar o acesso à informação, ao mesmo tempo em que demandavam um olhar mais rigoroso de seus procedimentos de análise. No cerne deste debate se encontra a questão das disputas narrativas em torno de uma “verdade” do/sobre determinado passado, uma verdade que se pretende autorizada pela forma como assume, em sucessivos e particulares presentes, esferas de reconhecimento junto a seu público.

    GT – 20 RITUAIS, REPRESENTAÇÕES E NARRATIVAS POLÍTICAS Título: Disputa política, luta simbólica no PSDB Autora: Maria Auxiliadora Lemenhe Resumo: Trato de desvendar algumas das formas de manifestação dos conflitos que emergiram entre diferentes segmentos do PSDB a propósito da indicação do candidato do partido à presidência da República nas eleições de 2002. Busco sobretudo analisar as representações construídas por cada um dos contendores sobre si mesmos e sobre o adversário. Parto da idéia de que as representações configuram-se, neste caso, como estratégias de legitimação dos sujeitos em torno dos quais se estruturam as disputas. A observação dos fenômenos políticos tomados como objeto de estudo abrange um curto período de tempo, balizado entre outubro de 2001 e fevereiro de 2002. O ponto inicial é expressivo da agudização e publicização das contendas entre Serra e Jereissati. O momento final assinala as ações implementadas pelas lideranças do PSDB tendo em vista a acomodação das dissensões internas ao partido. Introdução Em 24 de fevereiro deste ano, um domingo, o PSDB promoveu em Brasília, um grande evento como há muito não fazia. Síntese de comício de campanha e de festa de confraternização, o evento tinha como finalidade consagrar, em uma pré-convenção, o senador José Serra como candidato do Partido à presidência da República. A pompa do mesmo pode ser dimensionada pela estimativa de seu custo – 60 mil reais – e pelo enorme “Cartaz do Serra”1, que cobriu quase toda a extensão de uma das paredes externas do hotel onde se realizou o evento (FSP, 25/02/2002). Registram matérias de jornal que compareceram à cerimônia 2.500 militantes, os cinco governadores vinculados ao Partido, ministros, senadores e deputados.

In this data memo, we analyze data about political news and information shared over Twitter in the period leading up to the 2018 Brazilian presidential election. We find that: (1) Brazil’s political discourse on social media is highly partisan, with leading candidate Jair Bolsonaro dominating the conversation on Twitter; (2) accounts associated with Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Fernando Haddad hashtags show the highest level of high frequency tweeting; (3) Brazilian Twitter users are sharing more professional political content on Twitter than junk news — the highest proportion in all the elections we have studied; (4) while Bolsonaro supporters spread the widest range of known junk news sources, Lula da Silva and Haddad supporters accounted for the highest volume of shares. Essa empreitada se concretiza ao se percorrer as principais formações políticas da histórica do Ceará pós-1964. Partindo da composição dos grupos que dominaram o estado ao longo da ditadura militar, liderados pelos coronéis César Cals, Adauto Bezerra e Virgílio Távora, passando pelo predomínio do governador Tasso Jereissati e chegando, finalmente, ao protagonismo do grupo dos Ferreira Gomes. Este último será analisado em seus pormenores, destacando os vínculos familiares, base local, migrações partidárias, lógica de atuação e movimentos contemporâneos. Defende-se que o arranjo dos grupos agrega elementos das gramáticas tradicionais e modernas da política e funciona paralelo ao sistema partidário estadual, oferecendo caminhos para se compreender as estratégias, carreiras e alianças produzidas pelos atores e instituições democráticas. Os 5 candidatos que tinham mais intenção de voto em pesquisas eleitorais usaram assiduamente o Twitter como ferramenta para alcançar visibilidade das opiniões e projetos que propuseram. Por meio de um estudo exploratório, esse trabalho busca investigar o potencial do uso de dados do Twitter como ferramenta de predição dos resultados da eleição. Para isso, foram coletados dos perfis dos candidatos alguns dados relacionados a tweets e seguidores, e em seguida, estes dados foram utilizados para construir previsões que foram comparadas com a principal pesquisa de intenção de voto e com o resultado eleitoral.
